Canada, My Canada!

We shouldn't only celebrate Canada on one day, we should celebrate it everyday! What a wonderful country we live in. I am so lucky to be a 4th generation Canadian raising my boys in a country that everyone in the world wants to live in. The peace and quiet of Canada can not be disrupted by protesters, unions, media and special interest groups. We can not give them the power to destroy one of the oldest democracies in the world. We are a beacon to all people.



Today, we celebrate Canada, the land and the people who make it great. We are the people who make it great, the mainstream Canadian, raising our families, working hard, and respecting others, while expecting our governments to butt out of our lives and leave us alone.

Canada, my Canada is a great and expansive land made up of caring and dynamic individuals, from the potato farmers in PEI to the salmon fishers in BC. Each region is different and diverse, but by standing together we make Canada stronger. The Olympics showed us how powerful we are as a unified country, it allowed us to show our patriotism, we got to jump up and down in excitement about our Canadian athletes and our country. We felt good about ourselves without being arrogant.


I love Canada, I have a deep respect for the land, it provides us with the opportunity to excel at anything we want or desire. It is up to us to protect what we have, and I want to thank our military for making us safe in a world that is increasingly hostile.

I want to welcome the 95% of immigrants who come to Canada and truly make it their home, the other 5% who care nothing for Canada and it's people, can go back to wherever they used to live, you are not part of the fabric of my Canada.


On this Canada Day, let us celebrate who we are as a nation, a people as diverse and vast as our land, but united in wanting a safe place to raise our families.

Watch out for those fireworks though!

I Love Canada!

When is the last time you said that? We yap about Liberals, and Conservatives, but what is it really about? It's about who you think can run Canada the best. Right now it appears that the Conservatives have the edge, but would you vote Liberal if you thought they could do a better job for Canada than any other party?

What must immigrants think when they come to Canada, their chosen land, and see us squabbling about such stupid things as whether prisoners should be allowed to smoke. Most immigrants are just happy to be safe!

We live in astounding times in Canada. We lack nothing. We have the most peaceful country in the world, we have never attacked another nation with the intent to conquer.(Okay there is that one time that we burnt down the White House, but who's counting) We welcome people from all nations, and we impose no regulations on them, except to live in peace among all the other people of Canada. Most take up the call and become proud Canadians.

My next door neighbour is a refugee from Czechoslovakia, her niece has come here on a one year work visa. She got a job within two days of landing here. Those are the type of people we need in Canada. They do not come here to live off of the taxpayers of Canada, but to contribute to our nation.

I am proud to be Canadian. Our country is wealthy not only in natural resources, but in our people. I often think about the pioneers, living in mud huts through -30 weather. How did they do it? We must remember them because they are the origin of Canada. They defined the Canada that we have today.

We must stand guard over Canada, we need to make sure that our pioneers mean something to our future generations. What they taught us, is very simple. Love your country.

They came here in the hundreds of thousands, looking for a better life, and they found it. Not without work. They worked hard to make themselves homes and better lives for their children. They learned English or French. They built communities, sent their young sons off to war, and prayed for our country, Canada. They understood what it took to build a nation. Let us make sure we never forget their sacrifices.

As Remembrance Day approaches, think back to the pioneers who built our country. They forged a country with the steel of their willpower, and the might of their faith, not with a handout by the government.

It is a slow process to change course in a country that has shifted off course, but Canadians can right the ship by thinking back to the pioneers who got things done, by themselves.

I love Canada, it is a rich and peaceful country, because all the people who built this nation were strong individuals, willing to take a risk and build a new life for themselves and their families.

Where has that pioneering spirit gone? Tomorrow morning as you leave your heated house, and jump into your heated car to go to work, think about what Canada, the country means to you, and how you can make it a better place.

It is not an easy land, with our ice and snow, but it is a bountiful land for those who come here to live in Canada. Don't be embarrassed to tell someone you love Canada, our nation depends on us being proud to be Canadians. Let our immigrants know what it means to be Canadian.
