The Queen Of Canada, Celebrated.
I found the outpouring of respect for our Queen very enjoyable to watch. I wish I was close enough to have lined up to see her. As a matter of fact, I wish my boys could have gone to Ottawa to see, not only her, but our Parliament buildings.
The media couldn't hide her visit, and they also couldn't hide our PM's obvious respect and admiration for the Queen. If Obama had any smarts, he would have made sure to greet her. Oh well, we know he is an empty box, kids love to play in them, but the real goods have already been taken out, and only the shell remains.
I honestly don't know how I will feel if Prince Charles becomes King. He was too weak to prevent his disastrous marriage to Princess Diane, and as a potential King, should never have been fooling around with Camilla, a married woman. He is also bonkers about climate change. The Queen might be smart to skip that whole generation and go for Prince William as the next heir to the throne. Young as he is, he seems really grounded, and he might be able to stop the commonwealth countries from rejecting the monarchy. With Charles as King, I would vote for Canada to break ties with the monarchy. Seriously, the guy is nice, but not King material.
Whatever happens, we are much better for having had the Queen visit us.

The Queen has no say over who replaces her. It's Chuck...sorry.
I think we wasted $2 million on this visit. Did you look at the other pictures of the Queen. She looked bored out of her mind!
It's time for the whole monarchy thing to go. They have become "Disneyfied" with Prince Philip as Goofy.
Pinocchio, Snow White, and Superman are out for a little stroll in town one afternoon enjoying the sunshine. As they walked, they come across a sign:
"Beauty contest for the most beautiful woman in the world."
"I am entering!" said Snow White.
After half an hour she comes out and they ask her, "Well, how'd ya do?"
"I won First Place!," said Snow White.
They continue walking and they see another sign:
"Contest for the strongest man in the world."
"I'm entering," says Superman.
After half an hour, he returns and they ask him, "How did you make out?"
"I won First Place too," answers Superman. "Did you ever have a doubt?"
They continue walking when they see a third sign:
"Contest: Who is the greatest liar in the world?"
Pinocchio quickly enters the contest. After half an hour he returns with tears in his eyes.
"What happened?" they asked.
"Who the hell is Dalton McGuinty?" asked Pinocchio.
Actually, she can skip a generation and move her grandson to the throne. This has been written in many different media.
I have to say I'm torn. I like tradition and it separates us from the republics.
I'm right on board with you as far as Chucky is concerned. He is a living argument against the Monarchy. He needs to do the right thing and abdicate or I'll have to be against the monarchy.
Sorry sq, you are wrong, we need the Queen and all she stands for. Are you ready for a 2 year election campaign aka the USA.
Poor baby. Trying to drag Obama in now? You're just jealous because the Queen did not hug Laureen, despite being in Canada for a full 9 days. Unlike when Obama visited her for one day, and the Queen hugged Michelle.
No She didn't, Michelle committed a huge boobo by touching the Queen. And imagine a give of an Ipod full of O's speeches.
Our PM and his wife have more class in their little fingers than the Obama's have in their whole body.
I don't think iggy would think of hugging Her or would his wife.
MaryT is correct. One is not supposed to touch the queen and Michelle Obama commited a terrible faux pas but the queen, gracious as she is, responded diplomatically. Jimmy Carter did the same thing and he was chastised for it. Laureen Harper, having a whole lot of class knew that she is not supposed to touch the queen. Michelle Obama either didn't know or she decided to disrespect the protocol and the queen by hugging her. Sorry, LS, you are dead wrong.
Michelle committed a huge boobo by touching the Queen.
How does one respond when someone puts their arm around you? Especially when that someone is the Queen? Is it in the protocol book someplace?
And imagine a give of an Ipod full of O's speeches.
She can always delete them. In case you didn't know, the Ipod memory is erasable. Do you also hate RIM for giving her a Blackberry?
One is not supposed to touch the queen.
True.
and Michelle Obama commited a terrible faux pas...
No. If she did, then where is your outrage at the Queen for touching Michelle first?
but the queen, gracious as she is, responded diplomatically.
My goodness, this sounds like the global warming debate, where we are told the climate warmed *before* the CO2 increased, yet we are to consider the future to have caused the past.
You are doing the same, claiming that the Queen "responded diplomatically" by putting her hand on Michelle's back BEFORE Michelle did the same.
Sorry, LS, you are dead wrong.
Apology accepted.
The Brits seem more astonished at their Queen, so taken out of herself by these wonderful people, that she actually publicly displayed affection, something she seldom does. The Queen is so reserved, she makes Stephen Harper shaking hands with his son look like a blubbering emotional wreck in comparison!
I now look forward to more of your right wing rewriting of history. It seems to be the fashion lately.
Off topic, I must give kudos to Stephen Harper today, for a good choice for GG. I suspected it would be Preston Manning, or some other divisive extreme partisan choice. Could it be Steve is finally getting it? Or maybe Steve was as affected by the Queen as the Queen was by Michelle.
