Boot REDford!

The PC's are reluctant to call an election right now because of all the negative publicity they are getting. Personally I think they are stinking up our province and have to be given the boot. Spring means a fresh new world, and we need that right now. I have reserved a lawn sign for the Wildrose, and I want a bumper sticker as well. I know that Conservatives tend not to advertize their political affiliation, but this election is going to be a hard won fight, and we need to stop being so afraid of "wearing our colours". Go to Wildrose, and get your reservation for a lawn sign now! It's time to stop bellyaching and start acting.

Ms. REDford is so arrogant that she believes that the PC's are going to win again, well I have news for her....it's not in the cards. She will be Alberta's Kim Campbell. I'm not the only one who thinks she has to go, the ground swell has been building long before she became the Premier Elect. I remember talking to neighbours two years ago about Wildrose, and switching our votes. At that time we had finally elected a PC candidate instead of a Liberal one, and we thought that was a good thing. I do not feel that way anymore. If our riding splits the votes between the PC's and Wildrose and a Liberal slips in because of it, as long as the Liberal is moderate, I'm going to be okay with it, until the next election.

The Premier doesn’t like Albertans much. She thinks we drink too much and are a menace on Alberta’s streets and roads. Indeed, in her holier-than-thou mindset, she is sure that any drinking before driving is too much, even just a glass of wine during a restaurant dinner.
 
Ms. Redford is also convinced that Alberta parents are a hindrance to the teaching of communal values in the classroom. Her Education Minister is pushing amendments to the provincial Education Act that would remove parents as the “primary educators” of their children (with schools as complements to the home), and replace home values with the provisions of the Alberta Human Rights Act.

This, the Minister, Thomas Lukaszuk, insists, is not the intent of the amendments. But whether or not it is the intent, it will be the effect. Alberta is one of the few remaining provinces in which parents are still recognized in law as the chief teachers of their children. Unseating them from that perch and replacing them with the commissioners and investigators of a human rights tribunal cannot help but have a profound impact over time on the nature of schooling, whether Mr. Lukaszuk is perceptive enough to see that or not.

This change, too, is Ms. Redford’s doing.
As a former United Nations bureaucrat and a long-time advocate of the politically correct version of human rights — in which the ancient freedoms of free speech, free assembly and private property are trumped by modern notions of fairness, tolerance and self-esteem — Alberta’s new Premier has wanted since she was attorney-general under Mr. Stelmach to give parents no options about the ideals their children must absorb at school. Within days of winning the Tory leadership contest, Ms. Redford said she would end parents’ ability to exempt their sons and daughters from sex-ed and life-skills courses that included lessons that undermine many family beliefs.

The changes that Mr. Lukaszuk insists will not upend parental authority have been devised by the Premier to do exactly that. The Minister is merely the smiling face on her larger plan. Indeed, Ms. Redford is said to be pushing with all her might to get the amendments approved before the election commences so voters won’t notice the change until it is too late.

Parents need to get informed, they are about to lose their rights and freedoms to the AHRC, which we of course know will never be abolished under REDford. 

It's time Alberta. We are a strong, independent people, in a province with wealth to share. The only thing stopping us is our old, tired government that is so entitled to their entitlements they have forgotten about Albertans. Even Ted Morton thought it was okay to take away more of our private property rights, so that we have no say in where new power lines will go. They have become our enemies, they are taking away rights instead of expanding them like we expect of true Conservatives. They are PROGRESSIVES, there is nothing Conservative about them anymore. Vote them out.

Boot REDford. I wish I was in her riding, just to feel the satisfaction of voting for the Wildrose, and against her PC's.

She's Not Even The Premier Yet...

But she has already reversed her position on not having a Legislative session. Has she reversed her 107 million dollar give away to the teachers union? No way! From the looks of things she might even be worse than Steady Eddie.


I think Peter's Principle is at work here...she has been elevated to her position of incompetence. She is a lawyer, her present husband is a lawyer, and her ex-husband is a lawyer, can you say disaster for Alberta?

How much damage can she do to our economy in a year, before we have an election? We need to be vocal about anything she does that will harm our economy. Lawyers do not understand the economy or business. Any eco-friendly initiatives need to be examined and voted down if they harm our ability to succeed. Does she support the pipelines to Texas and BC? I have no clue because personally I couldn't care about this phony election dictated by Liberal and NDP voters. They stuck us with Stelmach last time and now we are stuck with a pinko.

Redford met last week with Alberta Teachers’ Association brass before announcing an almost-immediate $107 million boost to education funding.
Running a distant second to favourite Gary Mar, Redford closed the gap and eventually won the leadership early Sunday morning.
Whether the move to pacify the teachers resulted in many of them buying $5 Tory memberships to put her over the top may never be known.
But Alberta Wildrose Leader Danielle Smith says it’s another indication the Progressive Conservative Party in Alberta has lost its way.

Alberta is leading this country in economic development. Does this elitist understand Albertans? Does  she understand the oilsands development? Is she going to be listening to all her Liberal/NDP/union buddies and change the royalty structure? She is already pandering to the teachers union, so I am not too confident about the direction she will be leading Alberta.

The smart PC MLA's will abandon the drowning PC party and flock to the Wildrose, but maybe Wildrose would be smart to reject the soon to be unelected. Like the undead, they only hang around and create trouble.

REDford is already a failure by reversing her decision to not call the Legislature back and by pandering to the teachers union. A sad, bad start.

Run Monte Run!

As we in Alberta say thanks and goodbye to Stelmach as our Premier, we need to think about how he got to be our Premier. Lefties signed up for party membership to vote for Jim Dinning and allowed Stelmach to come up the middle and win. That's what meddling in an election gets you, like the Liberals ended up with Dion, the third place choice.

Stelmach is a good and honest man, who was like a fish out of water, he is a perfect example of Peter's Principle, he was elevated one step too many. I believe that he is trying to save the PC party by retiring, but I wonder if it is not too late. I don't think it is his fault, the government is stale and too liberal, even a new leader might not help. Might not. The leader will be important. Fresh, new blood is needed.

I had already decided to vote for Wildrose next election if they ran a candidate in my riding, now the game has changed. My vote is going to depend on who the PC's pick for a leader. I'm sure Morton is the front runner, but he is not new, and he has less charisma than Stelmach did. No other PC MLA rings any vote bell with me, and if it comes down to Morton as the new leader, my vote bell is just a hollow ringing in the back of my head. The glow is off of Morton, his timing was off, he should have run for the Wildrose leadership, now he is just an old PC MLA.

Run, Monte, Run! Monte Solberg as leader would return my vote to the PC's. He is young, dynamic, Conservative and smart. He also wouldn't take any guff from special interest groups, other Premiers, or even PM Harper. With him in Alberta and Premier Wall in Saskatchewan, maybe a new Conservative government in Manitoba, the west would continue rising! The east would only be able to look on with envy, or get smart and go with the Conservative flow.

Jim Prentice might also get my vote, but he's a bit too small c conservative for me. He reminds me more of a Dinning type candidate. He's too politically correct for a young dynamic Alberta. We need a champion.

Alberta needs a true Conservative government, not like the blue liberal crew we seem to have now. You can already see the "labeling" going on in the media calling the Wildrose Alliance party "far-right". Little does the eastern media understand that a label like that is guaranteed to drive more votes towards the Wildrose, than away. A good mix of new Wildrose MLA's and some of the old PC's could work really well FOR Alberta.

These are just my initial thoughts on a situation that is sure to change in the next year here in Alberta. Finally, we might have an exciting election. Oh, and to the three lefty Alberta parties... good luck on splitting the 20% vote between you all.

This time you lefties should stay out of other parties leadership campaigns. How would you Liberals have liked it if all us Conservatives (and there are a lot of us) had signed up to vote for your leader? You can show your support for your party by voting for them next election. Keep it honest this time. Let PC members vote for their new leader without interference.

Eco-Nuts And Our Governments!

I wonder how our governments got so side tracked on fighting actual pollution. We used to be concerned about polluted lakes and rivers, smog was a big problem, but that's all changed, and our governments at all levels are forcing us into stupid programs that cost us extra money and do nothing to actually clean up pollution.

Case in point, those squiggly bulbs that contain mercury, are legal, the old fashioned bulbs with no mercury are soon to be illegal. Who is going to profit from this change, GE for sure, they can charge more. How safe are these new bulbs? Here are two bulbs that recently burnt out in our house. Look closely at them.



Notice that the one on the left has been burnt, also notice the black smoke residue on the bulb. Safe?? No, it's actually very scary! The other bulb has a tiny bit of smoke residue as well, so that is two for two. A clear fire hazard, but because it is supposedly eco-friendly, we have to live with them. We also have those two bulbs hanging around because of the mercury, they can't go into the landfill. How many people just toss them out with their regular garbage? Right, probably 98%.

On the municipal level, we have an uber-lefty on city counsel that wanted us to only idle our cars for 3 minutes. So, in 40 below weather, we would only be able to warm up our cars for 3 minutes then we would have to drive them. Idiot, your windshield would be frosted up! He also is proud that the only thing he did before getting elected was to set up a plan to make all university students pay for those who ride the bus. Socialism par excellence!

At the provincial level we are finally getting some response to the Alberta Bashing that Ontario and Quebec did in Copenhagen.

One of Mr. Morton's jobs will be to inform Ottawa that Alberta is unwilling to continue paying billions of dollars into the equalization program at the same time it struggles to get its own budget back into balance.

"Our contribution -- this last economic downturn, the worst year since the 1930s -- was well over $21-billion and that cannot continue and we have to have that discussion in Canada," the Premier said after unveiling his new Cabinet.

This is a smart move by Stelmach, putting Morton in charge of the budget. We will have to see how that turns out. If Morton fails, Stelmach can blame him, but I suspect that voters will just switch to the Wild Rose Alliance. We are too far away from an election to predict anything yet.

What I do know is that Alberta better fight back. Understand that no matter what we do for the environment, it will never be enough for the eco-nuts. So, stop trying to please everyone and start supporting our oilsands. Iggy supported them more the other day than our own Premier ever has, and that needs to change, or voters are going to send a message next election.

This Weeks Round Up!

What's been going on this week? Not much, but some people want to make much out of nothing.

Senate appointments: I say go for it PM Harper, the only ones moaning are the poor Liberals who see their power eroding. They are also so slimy that they complain about someone who has admitted they used to be illiterate. So much for the compassionate lefties.

Election? I already showed you how we only needed less than 7000 more votes to win a majority. Why would the Liberals even be thinking election? I can only think that they except to win with a coalition, but they will not tell voters that's what's going to happen. Take Edmonton Strathcona as an example, Liberals openly voted for the NDP to defeat Rahim Jaffer, can they do that in every riding and get away with it?

Iggy? He changes in a telephone booth and champions......??? Someone give me a hint of just what it is he champions, other than puffins who hide their own pooh.

Obama goes on vacation and his believers attack the CIA to take the pressure off Democrats over health care. That should further tick off Americans who want America to stay safe.

Global warming forgot Ontario this week and caused havoc last week, if you believe the reports. Personally, I just think it's weather, but being one of those "deniers" what do I know, the science is settled.

Clinton came to town and cost Canadians 3 million dollars, but because he is a lefty, our MSM was all over him like Monica and a cigar. Was Belinda there?

Alberta needs a new Premier and if the Conservatives don't understand that, they will lose votes to the Wildrose Alliance next election. Even my Liberal Mom in BC misses Ralph Klein, so do I. He might have been rough around the edges, but he got Alberta into good shape, which Fast Eddie has wiped out in two short years.

Other than that, it's been quiet. HA!

So, I Email The Premier About The AHRC...

And this is what I get. I'm actually not unhappy with the response, at least I got one. What I think needs to happen is more people emailing the Premier about the Alberta Human Rights Commission. It is clearly not on the Minister's radar, so email the Premier, let him know you are upset with the AHRC. It doesn't hurt, and if enough of us send emails, it will become an issue. Here is my email:

I am Alberta born and bred, I am a staunch Conservative supporter and I am of Ukrainian decent. I will NOT vote for your government again, unless you rein in your human rights commissions. They are nothing more than kangaroo courts with too much power and NO accountability.

The idea that "truth is not a defence" is so repugnant to me and my conservative values, that I can not support a party that actually sent a government lawyer to "convict" a pastor and make him renounce what he believes. What happened to freedom of religion? Free speech? This in Alberta, the land of the strong and free.

I live in a riding in Edmonton that only won by 50 some votes, it's a riding that could easily go Liberal again, and don't count on the fact that you and your party are safe for 4 more years. Next election, I will vote Wildrose Alliance if you do not stop the AHRC in it's tracks.

I do not like Liberal Lite, I want a government that stays out of my life, and lets me practice my religion without fear of the AHRC putting me through the wringer because I write a comment in a paper, like Rev. Boissoin did. I disagree with some of what he said, but I respect his right to say it. The HRC's are taking away my right to agree or disagree, can you not see it for the cancer it is? Do something or lose votes.

Every Albertan has the right to live free from discrimination. The Alberta Human Rights and Citizenship Commission has a two-fold mandate: to foster equality and reduce discrimination. It fulfills this mandate through public education initiatives and the resolution and settlement of complaints of discrimination.

If Albertans feel that their rights are not being respected, they can discuss their concerns with the Commission. The Commission is required to accept all complaints that fall within its jurisdiction. A large number of these complaints are resolved by meeting with the two parties and trying to mediate a solution. For others that can't be resolved, there is an established process in place to address the concerns raised that provides an opportunity for both parties to be heard.

The Albertans Human Rights and Citizenship Commission operates independently of government and its work is guided by the Human Rights, Citizenship and Multiculturalism Act. As an elected official, I do not become involved in the day-to-day activities of the Commission, nor do I comment on individual cases. The Act protects people from discrimination in a number of areas including publications and notices, employment, services and tenancy. Within these areas, Albertans are protected on grounds such as race, colour, ancestry, disability, gender and religious belief. The Act includes a variety of appeal provisions to ensure that the best decision is made in each case.

Government recognizes the importance of reviewing all legislation from time to time to ensure that it is meeting its intended purpose. We will be taking your views into account as we examine Alberta's human rights policies and legislative framework to ensure it supports all Albertans.

So, why send a government lawyer to help convict Pastor Boission? It's interesting because it was copied to the Premier. Showing that the Premier wanted a response. What is also interesting is that it mentions reviewing the legislation. That would be a start, and inviting me to help them would be even better. HA! Oh, why not, I'm a concerned born and bred Albertan!

All in all, I am semi-happy with the response, for now. If nothing gets done, if I do not hear about a review, I will email again, and again, and again. What I think Albertans can do is just what I did, email the Premier, he is obviously interested in what we have to say, and I like that. He's no Ralph Klein, but maybe that's a good thing, he appears to be listening, so talk to him. Send him an email. I was shaking when I sent mine, I thought it was too harsh, but it obviously served it's purpose.

Next time I don't want an obviously "scripted" response like I got, (hey, I'm not dumb) next time, I'm thinking about a meeting with Minister Blackett.

If each of my Alberta readers would send one email, just one, this issue might gain some steam. I know Conservatives are loath to cause a ruckus, but it's about Alberta "strong and free". It matters.
