ACORN Closing in Wake of Scandal
CHICAGO — The once mighty community activist group ACORN announced Monday it is folding amid falling revenues — six months after video footage emerged showing some of its workers giving tax tips to conservative activists posing as a pimp and prostitute.
"It's really declining revenue in the face of a series of attacks from partisan operatives and right-wing activist that have taken away our ability to raise the resources we need," ACORN spokesman Kevin Whelan said.
Several of its largest affiliates, including ACORN New York and ACORN California, broke away this year and changed their names in a bid to ditch the tarnished image of their parent organization and restore revenue that ran dry in the wake of the video scandal. They will continue to operate under their new names and aren't affected by ACORN's decision to shut down.
ACORN's financial situation and reputation went into free fall within days of the videos' release in September. Congress reacted by yanking ACORN's federal funding, private donors held back cash and scores of ACORN offices closed.
Funny how they accuse "conservative activists" for their demise, and not their own liberal activists who were behaving very badly. Typical lefty logic, they are never at fault.
The problem is that Acorn, the organization will change it's name and continue to operate as usual, just like New York and California have already done.

What happened to ACORN coming to Canada? Dodo was freaking out last week because ACORN was invading. We already have a Canadian equivalent, at least in Vancouver it is called the Anti Poverty Committee. These are the people who trash the offices of government officials.

New York and California changed their names? Who knew?
Re: "The problem is that Acorn, the organization will change it's name and continue to operate as usual..."
Let's see, the Canadian Alliance changed it's name that time and you are quite right Hunter, it IS a problem that they continue to operate as usual.
I know it's lefty logic but hey, I'm a stupid leftard, baby, so why don't you sue me.
And wasn't/isn't Lizzie involved with bringing Acorn to Canada.
This is a problem with NGO's that learn to work the system for funding.
What parties are always demanding we don't cut funding for NGO's in Question Period?
Without taxpayers funding to sustain them most of them will dry up.
Let's hope Day and the review finds big savings.
Didn't the Reform Party want to change their name to the Conservative Reform Alliance Party? ie CRAP? hahahaha
No comment Mysty-Sue ... you said it and WEEEE Believe!!!
Hunter - what about the ACORN offices in Canada? There are 6/7 of them littered more in Ontario than anywhere else. Nothing so far in Alberta, but you never know.
The ACORN offices in Canada have a disclaimer somewhere in their websites to say that "we are not associated with ACORN USA".
Yeh, yeh... as if we believe them.
The acorn symbol is the same as the one in the USA.
Who let these dogs in.... that's what I want to know.
They even had the audacity to make demands on the govt as they have representatives lobbying our govt.
Check the whole thing at my blog.
We have to nip this in the "acorn" before it grows into an oak.
