Are The Conservatives, Not Conservative Enough?

Who cares? Right now the Conservatives being in power are keeping our country together. The west is finally being treated like all the other provinces. This is keeping us in the game. Two posts today got me thinking about what has been going on lately. We are letting the Liberal media dictate to us what we should think, and this must stop. '

A recent poll, to be released in full today by the Manning Center for Building Democracy, is generating commentary, if not angst, within the MSM. Apparently Canadians are a lot more "conservative" than we've been led to understand for so many years, make that decades.

I am growing sick and tired of those Conservatives bitching and moaning about Stephen Harper's lack of "fiscal conservatism". Maybe you are upset that there has not been a significant reduction of spending in the past four years and I am fully on board with reducing expenditures, but in a minority government with an opportunistic opposition what is the alternative? Each time you try to reduce spending on anything, the Liberals start screaming about how you are taking services away from Canadians. Neither the NDP nor the Bloc will be a willing dance partner in fiscal conservatism, and thus compromise is the only option.

Different, yet very much the same in thought. I agree with both bloggers. Conservatives need to stop letting the lefty media drive the agenda. Case in point is the fact that the media never called the Liberals out about the 29 MP's that did not vote on the budget. 29 out of 77 didn't show up? Every time one of them stands up in question period, they should be told to sit down because they did not vote and have therefore eliminated all the votes of their constituents. They yapped about prorogation endlessly, but refused to vote when parliament was actually back in action. That is a direct and very serious assault on our democracy, but the media is mute.

I am a Conservative, both fiscal and social, but my priority is fiscal. I would like all provinces to be treated equal, funding should not be based on how many MP's can be delivered. I get a sick feeling every time I hear Quebec bashing the Alberta oilsands, and you hear it every time you listen to the Bloc during question period. I have nothing against Quebec, but why do they think that they are superior to Albertans, while they sell asbestos to third world countries? Many Quebecois tell us that they only vote for the Bloc because it is a protest vote, but they really don't want to separate from Canada, well that is not the message that they are sending the rest of Canada. We are getting immune to their demands.

I would like to see more Conservative policies, but with a minority I am impressed with how much has actually been accomplished. I support PM Harper. He is doing an excellent job despite a very negative media and some stupid ministers. Don't expect the biased media to ever give him a fair shake. How do we combat the media and special interest groups? Defund them. Stop the subsidies, get the government out of funding special interest groups and the CBC.

Are the Conservatives not Conservative enough? Only to the lefties who want to make us into rednecked, gun toting, bible thumping, illiterate, prairie cave dwellers. Yet they depend on oil and gas for their livelihoods. Shut down the oil for just one week, see what happens. It wouldn't be pretty but it might get the point across.

Conservatives have NEVER been fiscally conservative. Here, and in the States, both so-called conservatives (Harper and Bush)took LARGE surplus', pissed that away and then ran the credit-card to the max. Tell me again, how is this conservative?

Trying to get things done with a bipolar opposition in a minority parliament is frustrating. Sometimes you can't afford to be idealistic and you need to be realistic. If you want to demand lower spending, I will be on board, but start questioning my Prime Minister's fiscal conservatism because he has to deal with reality, and it bothers me.

And let us not forget that the PM has some choices about how to spend his limited free weekend time. Perhaps he might have been officially obliged to be in Vancouver to open the Para Olympic Games Friday night to meet international dignitaries, but he could have delegated, but no … we find him, not only at the ceremonies, but in the Saturday crowd in the audience, paying for his own ticket, at the sledge hockey Canada-Italy game! No one in Canada should ignor the deep values of our Prime Minister. He is all for Canada, and he truly loves our sports and supports young people. The CTV commentator called this a photo-op … he is so wrong. The PM loves and appreciates sledge hockey!

To all those who complain that Harper isn't conservative enough I suggest they try a little historical perspective.

If they honestly think that over 40 years of left of center governance (Muldoon was Trudeau light) can be turned around in four years of minority rule, think again.

Think hard.

Dueceppe is constantly Alberta bashing to try and drag PMSH into a unity battle....wisely, he isn't biting.
Ted Morton will tell Charest where Alberta stands, PMSH should not.

Springer's comment is where I am at:
''...Truthfully, I don't do ideology, for the same reasons I don't do religion. Both require ignoring at least half of reality, if not all of it, in order to perpetuate themselves.

I don't pack around a little "blue" book with which I identify myself.

I just want decent government..''

L.Ian MacDonald has a good expose on QP. It is typical of how all (even Reform!) the opposition relish in stepping in the "droppings of a bull”. Parliament is dysfunctional and needs to polish its image before it becomes totally irrelevant.

As to “cutting off the oil”, not much would happen in central Ontario or Quebec. There might be a price spike but supply would still come from the various off-shore “blood oil” suppliers. Western Canada needs to concentrate its sale of oil and gas to the US, clean up its environmental image and look for Pacific Rim contracts. We need to forget about our Parliament – trusting Harper to keep the rest of the country in a stable state until a majority can be obtained (the hidden agenda!!).

The lefty trolls will delight in this debate and I have come to conclude as well, there is no clear method to change the opinion of a blogger that even answers his readers comments in a true condescending speech and lecturing pattern.

My first question would be, are you a card holding member? My second question would be, have you met the PM in person? My third question would be, what's the definition of compromise and how should it be applied in a country that is more than half, brainwashed to socialism?

I also find the criticism of communication strategy to be ridiculous.
When this countries PM goes overseas and we are forced to hear about toilet breaks, slights to a Chinese head of state, not greeted at the front door of the WH,fossil awards etc. etc one that has clarity to what is going on here can only conclude, he has consciously been bamboozled by the media pariahs. Communication is one thing, the EDITORIAL after is entirely different and the entitled LEFT are in control of that clearly, to an individual analyzing the whole picture instead of their isolated, self righteous momentary rant.

Despite a minority, the Harper govt has accomplished a great deal to the delight of Conservatives and that gives us hope of many more "wishes" than are within grasp when we get a majority.

Right now, it is a struggle for PMSH and his team every which way they turn, especially with the leftish media alway barking and yipping at their heels.

Deficit, surplus - just a number which is created and manipulated. Debt is the important factor and PM Harper has paid down some significant chunks of it. How often do the Libs or their supporters ever mention that? To me, the deficit means nothing. It's the debt on which we pay interest that interests me. As we saw from the Liberals, a surplus can be created by starving a health care system or stealing from EI funds and therefore was a false figure but it sure did fool a lot of dumb-a$$es into thinking Paul Martin was a genius. Funny how his genius fled the moment he became PM. Remember, part of our so-called deficit is due to his foolish promise to Danny Williams.

You're right, L. He paid for his ticket from his own pocket - not from a brown paper bag slid under a table like the corrupt Liberals. Our PM rocks, that's for sure. Ignatieff - well, there's your arrogant, out of touch American for you.

@Bec I don't mind the leftard trolls. I imagine the MSM is skulking around too. I don't underestimate their ability to cause a fuss around a good thing, but I think Canadians would be happy to know the CPC doesn't blindly follow any extremist doctrine.

Conservative doctrine of course has value, but if we try to do it all at once over night, then you know what happens....
-hope that isn't condescending.

Goal one provide good government. After a decade out of power the leftover of Liberals will declare bankruptcy after they lose the next election. The remaining pieces will have split to the CPC, progressive on the left.

Janine Krieber wrote a nice article on them joining other Liberal parties in the dustbin of history.

Just have to send congratulations to the Kevin Koe team from ALBERTA on winning the Brier today.
Good luck to his team in the World's in Italy in April.
