Not Keen On Weston.

Sneaky, that's what I call this opinion piece by Weston.

This week's late-night mugging of nuclear regulator Linda Keen by a thuggish PM and his bully-boys is only the latest salvo in a growing gang war between the Conservatives and the federal bureaucracy.

If they are not careful, Stephen Harper and his government run a high risk of going down in a hail of brown envelopes

(Bolding mine.) Mugging, thuggish, bully-boys, gang war, all in only 1 sentence. Sounds like a grade three student who was attacked on the way to school describing what happened to him. Is Weston taking the firing of Keen personally, or is he just spouting arrogant Liberal talking points?

After two decades out of power, Mulroney's party arrived in the capital with guns already drawn, ready to mow down any bureaucrat who got in their way, wishfully believing public servants existed to serve the every whim of their new political masters.

As a result, reporters could barely keep up with the deluge of embarrassing leaks flowing from every level of the bureaucracy, some of which were vicious enough to fell senior ministers.

So, basically what Weston is saying, is that Liberal bureaucrats were so ingrained in the civil service that a Conservative government had no chance, because vicious bureaucrats were out to get them. Kind of like now???

For her part, Keen has accused Lunn of political interference in a quasi-judicial tribunal, a move she says will cast a chill on all federal regulators and others supposedly shielded from manipulation.

Oh, so Keen thought she was protected, and now threatens the elected government with casting a chill on all federal regulators? Weston shows his bias with this statement:

Truth is, that chill has been in the air around government from the moment Harper became prime minister.

Tisk, tisk, Weston, your true colours are showing, and you are only supporting the Conservatives case that they are being sabotaged by some bureaucrats.

Harper's reign of fear has not been limited to officers of Parliament.

Okay, Weston, you go way over the top with that comment, maybe PM Harper should take you to the HRC for hurting his feelings and spewing bile.

The environment department, for instance, is littered with bodies who correctly thought the Conservative clean air legislation was a complete crock.

Right, Sheila Fraser (not Harper)fires the environmental auditor, citing privacy concerns, maybe you should ask her why? No lawsuit pending on that firing, so what was the environmental auditor up to? What could she have been doing that was so bad that Sheila Fraser was forced to fire her. Hummm? Maybe as a reporter, you should try to find out. But no, it's easier to just write totally biased, opinion pieces without backing up anything you say with facts, typical lefty ploy. Use emotions, not facts.

Quasi-judicial panels and other independent officers need to be free from political interference, but as Radwanski proved, not devoid of government oversight.

Why is a quasi-judicial panel, like the HRC free from political interference? We as taxpayers still pay for them, so they should be responsible and report to us. As we have seen lately that's not working out so well with the little dictators, and spies at the HRC.

Weston is obviously not Keen on Conservatives, and supports the Liberal bureaucracy without question. Well it's my right as a Canadian citizen to question Weston's motives and anyone who takes my taxpayer dollars. The bureaucrats are not gods, and they first and foremost must answer to the people of Canada, remember, they make a living off of our money.

Weston is a whiny little weasal tabloid columnist who has a hate on for Harper because Harper doesn't kiss the PPGs ass like he's supposed to.

Disgusting, overbearing self important little scumbags like Greggy are a big part of the reason the public is turning away from the MSM in hordes. Who wants to be told daily how to think, act and live by a pompous little shit like him?

The penny has still not hit the bottom of the well in the "Keen Affair".

Why have not MSM hacks like Weston asked about the unusual circumstances surrounding Keen's political re-appointment?

Seven months prior to her GIC expiring, in what looked like a possible collapse of the Dithers Minority, (when boolinda walked), Keen was one of a few who received re-appointment.

Why was it so important for her to be re-appointed? What was so important to have her in place at the CNSC to cover up for the grits?

She would have seen the 2002 AG Report. CNSC inspectors were on the floor of AECL every day. What had changed, other than a change in government, that the NRU was so unsafe to operate, that it had to be shut down, putting at risk thousands of lives?

Was she instructed by her friends who appointed her to embarrass the Conservative gov't, to deflect attention from a bumbling leader, was it the NRU should have been shut down when the grits were running it, she didn't do her job, and was now afraid of being found out by the new conservative government.

There is a cover-up going on here all right, by the same folks who tried to cover-up the sponsorship scandal....

The rot is deep, at the CNSC and AECL!

The rot is deep, good point. It is deeply rooted in a bureaucracy that thinks it is untouchable.

Why is Keen all of a sudden a hero? Lefties squeal like pigsover her demotion, yet she refused to restart the reactor when lives were on the line. I would like to get Goodale's phone records, something stinks here.

If the Liberals think it's okay to collude with CBC reporters in a parlimentary committee, why not phone up a Liberal appointed bureaucrat to make mischief at the nuclear commission? They know that people get scared when nuclear is mentioned.

The government knows more than they are saying, but the Liberals are too dense to understand that the government is trying to protect the Liberal record.

I sincerely hope I am wrong, but if you lack morals, and power, you will do anything.

I've had a notion for a long time that Weston had had a nod and a wink from the Liberals before the last election campaign that his being a Grit cheerleader might be rewarded with a 'plum' of some sort, and he has been bitter ever since the Conservatives won.
The Harper-won't-dance-to-the-PPG-tune theory is just as valid, as is another colleague's theory that Weston and his ilk will never do anything that might prevent their being hired by the Toronto Star or the CBC.

Unbelievable, so now you conservatives are calling Greg Weston a conservative hater.
Now I've truly seen everything.

You guys are so funny, so full of piss and vinegar.
Grow up, get a life, go get laid and stop drinking so much.

Stephen Harper is the problem here, not the MSM

Stephen Harper is a brilliant guy but he should not be the public face of the conservatives, he should be a behind the scenes guy.

Stephen Harper is a dead man walking.
A majority con win is unattainable with him as leader.
Do you really think there is a way that you will attain a majority.

If the polls show your anywhere near a majority the NDP and green vote will flock to the Liberals

But of course you guys are just too partisian to see that.

Enjoy.

"so now you conservatives are calling Greg Weston a conservative hater."

Can you ACTUALLY READ you fuckin idiot? Pick ANY one of his columns & see why I believed that.

"Grow up, get a life, go get laid and stop drinking so much."

Awwww, a pissed off journalist responding to someone who DARED to criticize his betters in the MSM.

Go fuck yourself journo. As far as drinking too much, I haven't YET seen a MSM scumbag who didn't reek of alcohol.

Hello anon-8:10, Weston is not a Conservative, even if he was, it's our right to disagree with what he and his paper prints.

I notice that you try to turn the channel by talking about PM Harper, not the Weston smear job, typical Liberal.

Dion is the dead man walking, and you hate that your party made a very bad choice of "leader". Dion is a light weight in brains and political strategy. I can't wait for him to come back to Alberta and tell us how we are making "easy money".

The polls are a fools game. If there are 4 parties on the left and one on the right, 35% should get a majority, like Chretien got. Don't fool yourself, the greens and NDP will not flock to a non-leader like Dion, he is toast.

Anon's comment: But of course you guys are just too partisian to see that.

Hello, you are on a site called bloggingtories, what did you expect? Are your Liberal sites sooo boring that you have to come here to troll?

Just one point, I love discussion, but this is a family friendly site, so can we not swear? Thanks.

The MSM officially becomes the Government of Canada in 2014.

At that point there will no longer be any reason to pretend that they aren't the ones in charge.

The jackboots of the media will have long since crushed this government and will be ensuring that a conservative/libertarian movement never again sees the light of fair press coverage... again.

With Pablogate we are already asking if the LPC is the political wing of the CBC or whether the CBC is the propaganda arm of the LPC?

Good point Tomm, except the MSM thinks they already are the ruling class. Why wouldn't they? They have the HRC's, judges, bureaucrats, and senators in their pockets.

So far the only hold out is the Conservative party. If they DARE fire a bureaucrat for failing to do their job, all hell breaks out. Maybe it's time for those career bureaucrats to feel the heat.

"the MSM thinks they already are the ruling class."

I agree Hunter. But I can't for the life of me understand where these people develop this enormous arrogance & self of self importance & entitlement.

I've had the opportunity to deal closely with quite a few journalists and I've never really been impressed with the intellects of any of them. I have though, been astonished by their hubris and condescending attitude toward anyone else.

Anon-9:47, very good points, how do journalists, (arts grads from university, the dope smoking bottom feeders), end up determining what we read, who gave them that power? Just because Weston has an article in a newspaper, does that make him an intellectual? Does that make his opionion better than mine? Or yours?

That is where blogs are making an impact, read the papers, read the blogs, see who you agree with, and if you don't agree with anyone, start your own blog. That is freedom, that is why the HRC tribunals are trying to limit blogs. They know that their power is only going to work if freedom of speech is buried. Killed.
