Okay, This Is Going TOO Far!

I sort of understood when they stopped selling peanuts at ball games, because peanut allergies can be deadly. Still I thought that people with those allergies should know better than to buy those peanuts, but what do I know, I'm allergy free.

Traveling around BC, I saw signs about reporting "poachers and polluters" through something called RAPP. YIKES!! Polluters are now as bad as poachers. Does that mean if I throw a banana skin out of the window as I travel down the Trans Canada, I'm a polluter, and therefore a criminal? If I idle my car too long, will I now be thrown in jail? Ridiculous! BC thinks those growing BC bud are GREEN, it is biodegradable and organic. The smog you see around Vancouver is not CO2, it's the smoke from BC bud! Well that doesn't bother me, I don't do drugs, but if Vancouver wants to live in a drug haze, so be it. Remember they dump their raw sewage into the ocean, but Suzuki says nothing about that.

Where I absolutely draw the line, where I make my stand, is on hot dogs.

Group wants food-makers to put warnings on hot dogs

NEWARK, N.J. -- Hot dogs may be as American as baseball and apple pie, but a national cancer-awareness group says they're hazardous to your health and should carry warning labels.

The Washington, D.C.-based Cancer Project, a vegan advocacy group, wants to force hot dog makers to use warning labels. The group filed a lawsuit Wednesday in Superior Court in Newark on behalf of three New Jersey residents. The defendants are Kraft Foods Inc., manufacturer of the Oscar Mayer brand; Sara Lee Corp.; Nathan's Famous; and the makers of the Hebrew National and Sabrett brands.

The lawsuit cites a report by the American Institute for Cancer Research that concluded regular consumption of processed meat can increase the risk of colorectal and other forms of cancer.

Consumption of processed meat.... and only hot dogs are targeted? I dare all of you reading this to tell me how many processed foods you have in your fridge, pantry and especially in your freezer, right now. Cheese? Luncheon meats? Bread? Pizza Pops? Frozen Waffles? Sara Lee anything? Canned soup? Canned veggies? The list is endless. Next time you are in the grocery store pay attention to all the people going for the frozen food products. They have no fresh veggies in their carts.

Vegans can eat all the veggies they want, I don't care, but when they attack my favorite food, the hot dog, they have gone way too far!

I bet they sit and stuff their faces with ice cream and chocolate in the summer, but hot dogs, the king of processed foods are now bad? I suggest the vegans go up to the Arctic, find some poor old polar bears and let one group feed them lettuce and the other feed them hot dogs, let's see which group wins.

Hot dogs are the ultimate comfort food....you will have to pry it out of my cold dead hands with my beer and chips.

Vegans don't eat ice cream. Cream...milk...cow. Get it?

Vegetarians eat dairy but not vegans. You know, SQ, you're like a busybody old lady next door. Lonely, frustrated, annoying, and totally unloved.

Hunter, you are so correct. For some reason, these groups think that we Canadians are stupid. I know that processed foods are bad for me but I occasionally eat them. As an adult, I make choices and that is one of them.

I think when you look closely at these groups, they need to justify their existence in order to receive their grants and other funding support to pay the salaries of their bureacracy. As far as I am concerned, most of these groups do very little of what they purport to do.

Warnings on hot dogs - that is so ridiculous. There will come a time when we will stand up and put an end to all of this crap.

Driving a car is dangerous. Smoking dope is dangerous. But, do we see warnings on cars and on dope? Uh, no.

"Remember they dump their raw sewage into the ocean, but Suzuki says nothing about that."

Wrong Huntsy - both the David Suzuki and T. Buck Suzuki through their foundations have plenty to say about raw sewage in the ocean.

"Vegans can eat all the veggies they want, I don't care, but when they attack my favorite food, the hot dog, they have gone way too far!"

Check out what the American Institute for Cancer Research has to say about meat and reconstituted meat (meat slurry) products, Huntsy On the subject of processed meat (hot dogs, cold cuts, ham, etc.) and colon cancer, the collected evidence indicates that every 50 gram serving of processed meat (roughly equivalent to 1 hot dog) eaten per day increases colorectal cancer risk by 21 percent. (Note: this means that people who eat a hot dog every day have a 21 percent higher risk of colorectal cancer than if they never eat hot dogs.)

It's not the end of the world as anyone who works with stats can tell you - but with beer and chips in the mix, who can say. If you go to the gym enough and eat all the veggies in your garden maybe you can eat all the hot dogs you want.

East of EDEN!

Re:"I think when you look closely at these groups, they need to justify their existence in order to receive their grants and other funding support to pay the salaries of their bureacracy[sic]. As far as I am concerned, most of these groups do very little of what they purport to do."

More unfounded opinion here? Yes indeed. The Vegan advocacy group that wants the labels on hot dogs is a branch of American nonprofit Physician's Committee for Responsible Medicine. That organization had an operating budget of just over 10 million dollars last year and OF THAT just under one hundred thousand
came from grants.

PS: I love Southern Quebec!

Why would a vegan care about what's in a hot dog - he or she is not going to eat it, anyway.

Unfounded opinion? Maybe not, Stereo. You have no idea where I work, with whom I work, with what I'm involved - you have no idea.

I remember the whole cyclamate hullabaloo back in the 1960s - the amount of cyclamates that one would have to consume to have a remote possibility of cancer was impossible to consume but some lobby, somewhere, got them banned and thus, we gave birth to other sugar substitutes which are just as harmful.

How about hexachlorophene? It is nearly impossible to be exposed to the amounts required to remotely cause cancer but they were banned. Oh, but we have other chemicals which don't harm us. Oh no.

Look, if I have a hot dog once in a while, big deal. I have always been aware of what goes into weiners and, to be quite frank (no pun intended) I don't care. Life is to be enjoyed and if a hot dog hits the spot, so be it.

I don't like beer but I wouldn't try to warn anybody off of it just because I don't consume it.

This reminds me of a wkend I had all the g/children down for a party. Hotdogs and ice-cream were on the menu. Kids were discssing what they would do when they grow up. The kd lang commercial come on-I hate meat-. g/daughter (5 yrs) said, when I grow up I want to be a vegetarian. I said, well, you might just as well start now and I took her hot dog and ice cream away. She started to cry and said, ok, then I will be a nurse. Cooling down I said, why do you want to be a vegetarian and she said, I like animals and want to take care of them. (she got doubles of everything.)
And last year she received her R.N. degree.

You won't die if you don't eat hot dogs. It is not like food in general without which you will die.

Therefore your over the top reaction is indistinguishable from that of a crack addict when you suggest to them to stop using.

Damn , now they'll be giving away hotdogs at needle exchange centers .

So you are a child abuser too. You didn't offer her something else, did you? Didn't sound like it. So you deprived the child of sustenance, which is child abuse. You'd have her starve, all because of your own meat addiction.

maryt - admitted child abuser.

Hahahahaha!

Anonymous said...

LS - you are really beyond the pale with that one. Child abuse - please, stop being so ridiculous. It is people like you who cause real abuse to go underground and become hidden because you're always screaming abuse or racism or some such thing. Oh yeah, depriving a child of sustenance by removing a hot dog - sure thing.

LS - you've gone from originally being somewhat rational to downright irrational. Give your head a shake - your comment was one of the stupidest I've ever read.

Anonymous said...

Although I think she's a supreme whacko and I'd be the last to defend her, I don't think Gayle would appreciate your dumbing down the definition of child abuse, L.S.

Then again, perhaps she hands out hot dogs and ice cream to children when she's not in the office surfing right wing blogs on taxpayer time.

Looks like a typical fright wing indignation fest. Harrumphing and self righteous about their own ways of doing things, sneering with contempt at anyone else.

The angry angry right.

Hahahahahahahaha!

Had the child not capitulated to the aggressor granny, exactly when would she have been permitted to eat? Based on the facts presented, it would likely have been never.

Usually when you pull this kind of thing on a kid, you give them an alternative. But from meat addicts, it would likely be something like hunter's "offer lettuce to polar bears" baloney. It just wouldn't do if you gave the kid typical vegetarian food, because they might happen to like it. Then how would you pass your addiction on?

Hahahahahahahahaha!

maryT said...

LS, you were not there and have no idea of the rest of the items on the menu. And once she said she would be a nurse she got double of everything. Perhaps a time lapse of 5 minutes.

Southern Quebec said...

What does being an RN have to do with anything? You tormented that poor child, a 5 year old! Typical Conservative attitude. My way or the highway 5 year old! Suck it up!

LS, you were not there and have no idea of the rest of the items on the menu.
Sorry to get in the way of your sneer. Where did I claim I was there? That's right, not at all. I responded directly to your description only, where you withheld food to force a child to stop saying things you don't like.

It was so funny when you talked about eating hot dogs with forks, but when the tables are turned, you get all snotty.

And once she said she would be a nurse she got double of everything. Perhaps a time lapse of 5 minutes.
Good, she'll make a great CPC MP or Senator. They do want only trained seals, like the girl forced to say the right thing to get fed.

Five minutes is a long time to a kid, they think a timeout is a major, just like a major hockey penalty. But five minutes is about the attention span of your typical CPC MP, I guess you have to train them from a very young age.

You do understand that I am teasing you, don't you? After reading all of hunter's "it's just a joke" stuff, you should realize that, but it seems you only think it is funny when denigrating your political opponents.

Hahahahahahahahaha!

As usual LS has missed the point so let me explain it, my g/daughter used the wrong word in saying what she wanted to be when grown up. I don't think a person that takes care of animals is called a vegetarian, veterinaian (sp) is what she meant to say. However, her change of profession from that to nurse is right. She is a great RN. I hope she never has LS for a patient, he/she/it could not stand TLC.

That was not at all clear from your comment. You set it up with some "I hate meat" commercial, then the kid says she wants to be vegetarian. Yes, you did ask and she said "I like animals and want to take care of them", but as you say, it was after you "cooled down". In other words, you angrily snatched her food away until she sobbed that she wanted to be a nurse, just to appease you and make you stop being angry.

I don't think a person that takes care of animals is called a vegetarian, veterinaian (sp) is what she meant to say.
Yes, you finally figured that out after you "cooled down", after your enraged outburst. Good for you.

However, her change of profession from that to nurse is right. She is a great RN.
They make better money too.

I hope she never has LS for a patient, he/she/it could not stand TLC.
And the standard maryt sneer. However, it doesn't change the fact that in your meat addiction rage, you terrorized a small child.

That completely makes my point that meat eating can be viewed like any other addiction, when you consider how people respond when their addiction is threatened.

Hahahahahahaha!

maryT said...

She did not sob, and perhaps the fact we raised and sold about 100 beef/yr had anything to do with my liking meat. And my g/daughter makes a great pot roast.
I was not in a rage, just explained to her what she could never eat if she was a vegetarian.

Anonymous said...

It was a Freudian slip on the kid's part LS. And even though MaryT , as an adult (and clairvoyant) must have known the child meant to say veterinarian - she took her at her word and confiscated her meat and ice cream!

MaryT, were you more afraid she'd be influenced by KDL to become a vegetarian or...drum roll...gay? Lots of nurses are gay. Vets too. Cops too. Conservative MPs too. Not just in Montreal either.

Yes, it's a sad story indeed Gayle, but what's your point? I find you to be a pathetic piece of work that you somehow think you are better than the rest of us because you are employed in some branch of welfare/victim's services industry and we are not. You haven't even the foggiest clue what 'the rest of us' donate in time, money and support of the various charities out there. Government money alone won't clean up the streets, nor will labelling right thinking people as mean and uncaring. So long as you take this holier than thou, your socialist poop doesn't stink attitude I'll continue to label you as the pompus windbag you continually present yourself as. Get off your high horse and get over yourself. You are one ugly woman Gayle.

Another fine example of lefty extremism. Personally I'm shocked that Liberal Supporter was just as idiotic as SQ and MY, the sun probably got to him, fried his brain.

Get a grip lefties, it's a post about loving hot dogs, some things are sacred.

Gayle said...

Silly Eskimo. You still think that hurling childish insults actually disguises your inability to mount an intelligent argument.

My point is that what I was saying the other day is true. Sorry to burst your little bubble, but it actually had nothing to do with your opinion of me.

I will point something out however - which I have already tried to explain but I guess you need to be told the same thing more than once before it gets through - and that is that one does not need to be a social worker, or paid by the taxpayer, in order to work with children and youth in need. There are many non-government charitable organizations, and volunteers, who work with street youth.

By the way, it is true that I am better than you, but it is not because of the work I do. It is because I am able to conduct myself in a mature manner, and able to make a point on the substantive issues. You do neither. You think insulting someone actually hides the fact that you do not know anything about the topic being discussed. It is the way children behave. Though I suppose I should not be so quick to judge - you may indeed be only 11 years old...

Anonymous said...

Look Gayle, the very nanosecond someone posts something counter to your 'politics' you fire back with your trademark 'prove it' foot stamping. Rarely do you back up your opinions with fact, aside from a cut and paste of lefty drool from the likes of the CBC and Toronto Star. (Good Lord) If anything, your predictability is one admirable trait of yours. And you STILL haven't answered if you were visiting here on taxpayer/company time. What's that about sience being telling? Never mind, I wouldn't want you to get in trouble with your employer. Now that Special Ed has announced a hiring freeze for government workers, your prospects could be limited.

Anonymous said...

That would be 'silence', should the resident hall monitor show up.....

Gayle said...

You are so funny.

First, I do back up my points, as I did this very evening with the post in question here. You know I do - which is why you not only attack me personally, but also attack my sources. Pretty lame, by the way. It is so convenient to just scream "bias" whenever there is something that you do not like. Of course, you cannot back THAT claim up either...

But what is funny is that, yet again, you have launched a personal attack in lieu of an actual argument - and that this time the attack is to accuse me of doing what you are guilty of doing - launching an attack without backing it up.

I have read enough psychology texts to know what "transference" is.

Gayle said...

By the way, thanks for you concern, but you needn't worry about my employer. I am a very good boss.
