Robin Hood Rides Again!

When I was little, I loved the idea of Robin Hood, stealing from the rich to give to the poor. Back in the day, he would have been a hero because the poor were truly oppressed and mistreated by the rich. It was a feel good fairy tale, it still is, but Obama seems to think it's a good idea for the US.

WASHINGTON -- House Democrats scrambling for ways to pay for overhauling health care would raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans to levels not seen since the 1980s, breaking one of President Barack Obama's campaign pledges.

....The plan would honor Obama's campaign promise not to raise taxes on families making less than $250,000. But it would break an Obama pledge that no one -- including the wealthy -- would pay higher taxes than they did in the 1990s. The pledge, as listed on Obama's campaign Web site, was: "No family will pay higher tax rates than they would have paid in the 1990s."

Democrats argue that high-income families fared well under President George W. Bush's two terms as their taxes dropped and their incomes soared, giving them the ability to absorb higher taxes. Republicans argue that the tax increases would hurt small business owners who typically pay their business taxes on their individual returns.

Rep. Charles Rangel, chairman of tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee, called the plan "the moral thing to do."

"This innovative bill provides a uniquely American solution to control costs and put patients first without burdening future generations with debt," the New York Democrat said.

Legally steal from the rich to give to the poor. Make the rich pay for the increased costs of the health system. This works because the poor are envious, and feel entitled to their entitlements. Can you say you have not felt envious when you see someone driving a Lexus? How about driving through an upper class neighbourhood and seeing those huge houses with pools and tennis courts? Don't you feel jealous? Don't you want to be those people, live in their houses and not have to worry about money anymore? Have you ever bought a lottery ticket hoping to win those millions? We have all done that at one time or other.

The problem is that you need to work for those "things". No-one has the "right" to a house, or a job. You want to earn $350,000 a year, get an education and work for it. You want "free" health care, be prepared to pay extra taxes. The problem is that taking from the rich is not "the moral thing to do". What is moral about taking from the people who are productive and giving it to the non-productive. We have heard about the brain drain, this is going to cause a tax drain. Those with money are going to hide it off shore, and/or move to greener pastures.

Currently, the top marginal income tax rate is 35 percent. Obama wants to let some tax cuts enacted under Bush expire, boosting the top rate to 39.6 percent in 2011. The new health care taxes would increase the top rate to 45 percent.

House Republican leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, called the bill a job killer that would result in rationed care, fewer choices for patients and diminished quality.

Think about paying 45% in marginal income tax, then add in all the other taxes like property taxes. The poor can not move, the rich can and they will. Socialism tries to make all people suffer equally. It is based on envy and greed. Socialism punishes achievers, and the independently minded people who have ideas and start companies. Unions are a prime example. They want to take from the rich corporations and give to themselves. Socialism kills societies.

Robin Hood, in this day and age, would not be a hero, he would be a manipulator who whats you to think that everyone has the right to take what was never yours.

Someone spent a little tooooo much time in the sun. Health care is a right, not privilege. (No matter what that ignorant GOP guy said.) If you have a minimum wage job (can you say WalMart) how can you be expected to pay health care premiums?

"The plan would honor Obama's campaign promise not to raise taxes on families making less than $250,000."

Under GWB's "No Millionaire Left Behind Bill" the rich made out like bandits, and even if Obama does raise their taxes, they will still be paying less that they did in the 1990's. For some reason it's OK to bail out the wealthy when the economy tanks, but health care for poor people -- how will they know their place? (Withholding health care from people is all about control BTW)

Comparing a Lexus or a McMansion to health care is very petty and should be beneath you. (Don't you have health care and work for a union?)

Your assertion that the “poor can not [sic] move” may come as surprising news to millions of people in Mexico and countless other so-called “economic migrants” around the world.

But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. You will be repaid at the resurrection of the just. [Luke 14:13 &14.]

If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven.
[Matthew 19:21]

In the temple courts [Jesus] found men selling cattle, sheep and doves and other
sitting at tables exchanging money. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle;
he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. [John 2:14 & 15.]

"You know, there's two schools in economics on this. One is that there are some good taxes and the other is that no taxes are good taxes. I'm in the latter category. I don't believe that any taxes are good taxes."

Huntsy today:

"Robin Hood, in this day and age, would not be a hero, he would be a manipulator who whats [sic] you to think that everyone has the right to take what was never yours."

Huntsy yesterday:

"All the stimulus money that is flowing does not impact us in a visible form. Sure a needed bridge or road will get built, but even though it is taxpayers money, we don't associate it with actual money out of our pockets. It's just money that the government has already taken from us and there is nothing we can really do about how it is spent."

Shorter Huntsy today:

How dare Obama attempt to tax the outrageuosly wealthy in pursuit of universal healthcare!

Shorter Huntsy today:

Well I guess the redistribution of wealth isn't so bad - as long as I get to look at my new roof and my new bathroom!

Maybe that’s why SQ is “lashing out” at Hunter.

Not being mentioned has perhaps had a negative effect on poor, unfortunate SQ.

Could some of you other “citizens” instruct SQ on how to do it.

Last part should read shorter Huntsy yesterday. I do apologize.

Wow, a lefty now quoting Scripture! How does Jesus driving the money changers out of the temple equate to some ill-conceived notion that helath care is a right? You are really reaching now!

So tell me, my brother-in-Christ, mysterysissy, do you also quote Leviticus when the 'pride parades' roll into town every summer?

To imply that the right wing is not charitable is laughable. People with conservative leanings are far more charitable than those on the left.

In other words, we sign the front of the cheque, you and your ilk sign the back side.

What's "helath" care? Hahahahaha!

But seriously since when was the bible exclusive to the right wing syllabus?

I am proud of Pride and so would Jesus be proud of it.

Re:"To imply that the right wing is not charitable is laughable. People with conservative leanings are far more charitable than those on the left."

The only thing laughable are Huntsy's little comments today. If you think equating the need for health care with Lexus envy illustrates a charitable right wing mindset, then you are a laugh riot too.

Oh look at that back there - outrageously, darn. See I made an spm too. Hahahahahaha!

SQ is lashing out at Hunter, mainly because Hunter is a moron equating health care to a Lexus or McMansion. People need health care.

Hunter only gives a $hit about Hunter. Tax money spent on a road she uses, AOK!, on a bridge AOK!, paid 2 cents less on her Timmy's AOK! (her wallet talks to her and said so), but give those stupid poor people HEALTH CARE STFU and go away. Next thing they will be wanting is a Lexus.

PS you don't want a Lexus -- tire problems -- and expensive.

Mysty-sue off its meds and Esque passing gas all on the same day ... oh well ... same old same old ... at least they perform their odorous tripe for all the world to see. Put the crap back in your pants "its" you're soiling the mushrooms.

"What's "helath" care?"

It's called a typo.

Tell me what part of 'pride' are you proud of? Is it the leather chaps and hats? The Birkenstocks and brush-cut haircuts? I sure get a kick out of this 'celebrate diversity' crap yet it seems that everybody dresses alike! Maybe we 'breeders' need an official uniform too!

Or is it the open fornication on the parade floats that makes you proud? Please clarify and quote a Biblical reference where Jesus said, 'That's cool, sign up me'.

Thanks for restating the truth about the right being more generous than the left. Rather than offer a rebuttal, you mix some oranges into the apple cart about something Hunter said.

You're an amateur, mysterysissy. Especially your endless Youtube links.

There's your Mom calling you again..... Your noon time grilled cheese and grape Kool-Aid is waiting for you upstairs. If you promise not to get crumbs on the furniture, you can set up a tv table and watch the Flintstones re-runs in the living room.

Shouldn't make stuff up. Bad wingnut!

"Maybe we 'breeders' need an official uniform too!"

You already have. It's called polyester and you have your meetings at Wal-mart, where most of you are the greeters!

PS I haven't noticed anyone defending Hunters snit over poor people getting health care. Maybe Dodo will come by. (She makes Hunter look normal.) HA!

Is that Yoda talk?

Hahahahahahahahahaha!

Well earlier you were asking for quotes from Leviticus but Leviticus is not Jesus' book, strictly speaking, is it? Ha! Did people sign up for their sexual orientation in bible times? Ha! I'm certainly not aware of anything conclusive in the bible on which way Jesus swung though it is said he suffers ALL the little children. Ha! Is the Flintstones really on right now? I could sure go for some more laughs. Ha! Maybe it'll be that episode where the Weirdsley's move in next door! Hahahahahahaha!

Health care is a right? Hmmm. I never knew that. Just because we have universal health care (destroyed, thanks to the Chretien government) in Canada does not make it a right. I wouldn't trade it for the American system, but it is a privelege, just the same.

Very good, Stereo. And let's not forget about the eye of the needle. I am, in all seriousness, quite impressed with your knowledge of God's word. I only hope that you were not using the Bible as a weapon against Hunter for that is not what God intended.

Anonymous said...

Stereo - the Bible is the Bible and both old and new testaments have to be considered. I am a lifelong believer who is often disturbed by some of the modern churches' tendancy to ignore the old testament. Jesus is an easier "sell" than the harshness of parts of the old testament - particularly Leviticus.

Anonymous said...

Shoot - I forgot to mention. Yes, Stereo, not all left-wingers are heathens just as not all right-wingers are believers. However, it is always the left wing which comes down on churches (none have the guts to come down on mosques) and paint believers as being all sorts of bad things.

However, anybody who actually checks will notice that churches, mosques, synagogues, temples, etc. are hands-on involved with charitable work. Personally, I would like to see the government reduce its involvement in social programs and allow us, as Canadians, become more involved.

By letting the government take care of some (not all) social programs, we have, as a society, abdicated our responsibility to our fellow humans.

As for myself - I used to work as a suicide prevention volunteer. What do I do now to give back to my fellow Canadians? I paint interiors for the infirm and seniors. I take them places - like medical appointments or stores, I run their errands for them, etc. You get the picture.

As for formal volunteer work, it has become, in some cases, the domain of the elite. I have twice tried to volunteer to teach literacy and software skills only to run up against a bureacracy which makes it unbelievably onerous and, instead of wasting my time, turned in another direction - through church organizations.

Unfortunately, we have become a selfish society and abdicated our responsibilities to the government so that we can devote our energies to ourselves.

Oh, SQ - if I made any typos, too bad. I'm dyslexic. It happens.
