The Moment You Have All Been Waiting For....

HA! Okay maybe it's only the moment I've been waiting for, but our kitchen reno is 99% complete. We need to finish some back splash, slap on some paint, and we are done, just in time for Christmas!

It all started with one cupboard door that had it's paint steamed off because we had no fan above our kitchen stove. I started refinishing the oak doors back in August. Then we needed new back splash, appliances and a new counter top (Hubby never did like the pink counters). Here is the before reno picture, dark doors, white back splash and pink counters:

I stripped the doors, sanded them and let the real wood speak for itself. We painted the background green, got rid of the old back splash, curtains, sink and window frame. New classic country kitchen white appliances (no cold stainless steel for me) notice the 5 burner gas stove with convection oven? It's getting connected tomorrow! I can't wait to cook on it, though I anticipate some burned meals before I get the hang of the gas burners.

I love the new back splash and counters! I love the dark green background (it took 3 tries to get the right colour) that makes the oak doors pop, and I am glad I went with laminate counters instead of granite. If you look real hard, you will see hints of green in the counter top.

Most of all, I'm glad the thing is finally done!! I will not be quitting my day job to pursue a new career in interior decorating, because the living room is calling me now! Does it ever end once you start?

That's the big problem when you start "fixing up" something. When we started fixing up our kitchen, we ended up gutting the house! Nice colour on the tiles.

Not sure about a microwave above the stove...

The pictures look great. I moved from a 25 year old house to a new condo a few years ago and it is SO nice to have a pristine kitchen.

West Coast Teddie- I wondered who else was supplying some of the FNF. I try to contribute as well. They are the highlight of my weekend. Cheers.

Rockin' cupboards, Hunter!

I've got to tile my backsplash as well. We're going with the small glass tiles.

I've got an old teacher's desk that needs refinishing, should you want any extra work over the winter! We also have one of those old school student's desks. The kind with the book drawer under the seat and the hole cut out in the desktop for the ink well!

You should be able to get this done for me long before you have to start your tomato plants!

Thanks everyone! For once I have to agree with SQ, I think the microwave is too big, but the way stuff is built these days I will be buying a new one in two years.

WCT, I thought my email address was on my site, I will check to see where it went. Email me at

Eskimo, I have a vanity, two mirrors, two dressers, and a table taking up garage space...just waiting for me to look at far I have been able to ignore them as I rush into my car. But one of these days one of them is going to jump out at me, and I'm going to have to start work on it. If I run out over the winter, (HA) I'd love to work on the desks. Each one of those cabinet drawers took me over 5 hours, easy. I love it!
