Poor English Causes Quebecer Suncor Job.

A Quebec ironworker is accusing Suncor of discrimination after he was fired for poor English, but a spokesman for the oil giant says poor communication can be dangerous.
The dismissal prompted a second Quebecer to quit Suncor in protest and has incensed the local ironworkers union, which is demanding Suncor do more to accommodate French-speaking tradesmen.

Well, I can hear the howling about this one! Maybe if Quebec allowed signs in both French and English, instead of French only, this wouldn't have happened!

"If they'd have just given him the tests in French he'd have passed with flying colours," he said

Last fall, he said, Suncor hired 30 non-unionized Filipino tradesmen to work at their Firebag site farther north.
"They hired translators for them," Anderson said, although Suncor spokesman Patti Lewis said the Filipinos all passed English-language testing.

I think the whole issue is not about language, it's about union versus non-union workers.

So, Quebec, hows that French only law working out? It's the province of Quebec that is discriminating, not Suncor. If I go to a doctor, and he only speaks French, it's not going to do me any good now is it?

The English test is there to protect workers, but don't let the safety of workers get in the way of French language rights. It's sad that Filipino tradesmen can pass the test, but a Canadian can not!

What i find so hyopcritical coming from the french is, ya bilingualism where numbers warrant, outside of Quebec, that means when 5 % of the populatation speaks french they demand services in french and they force the government to start hiring francophones , not bilingual anglophones. In Quebec they only have to offer bilingual sevices now if more then 50 % of the community is English speaking, and of course with bill 22, bill 178, bill 101...and all the other anti-English legislation, that doesn't exist anymore in Quebec (ethnic, language cleansing, bigotry...). So Quebec doesn't have to become bilingual yet they expect the rest of the country, no matter where the french go, to serve them in french. Anyone else see whats going on here. Jobs and money $$$. Look at Suncor in Alberta this week, one frenchman from Quebec gets fired because he can"t speak English and this one french idiot from the Alberta legislature ( Guy Boutilier ) is up in arms that this Quebecois should have to learn English in Alberta. Alberta, how did this anti-English french bigot ( Guy Boutilier ) get into your legislature to begin with??? Get rid of this french bigot now or it will only get worse. Trust me, I'm seeing it go on on in Ottawa every day.Its not just Quebec any more folks, these french bigots are trying to do same thing outside Quebec. They have no respect for our language and culture. That's a fact. Bilingualism is nothing but a hiring quota for francophones, another fact. They said they would take over the country one step at a time, watch out folks. Wake up Alberta, and congratulations Suncor. www.languagefairness.ca www.languagefairness.ca www.canadadivided.com
