Release Those Documents, Or Maybe Not.

We are at war. We have our brave troops fighting and dying in Afghanistan. Back at home, we have the opposition DEMANDING to know everything about our release of detainees to Afghan authorities. They are more interested in protecting Taliban terrorists, who by the way, are killing our troops, than supporting our troops.

They have no proof of torture, they have one diplomat, who never went outside the wire, thinking that ALL detainees were tortured, but no proof. Still they have DEMANDED all documents, because when you are on a witch hunt, you can't get anywhere without proof. So, the documents are going to be released to selected MP's from all parties, including the separatists. Should we trust them? Not likely.

First, we have Iggy calling a special Sunday press conference to tell the PM that he should keep the current GG. The PM asked the Queens secretary to ask the leaders of all parties for their opinions on who the next GG should be. The Liberals couldn't help make it a political issue. Are they university students or mature Members of Parliament who can keep secrets....secret?

Second, we see what will happen if the press actually gets their hands on those secret documents. From Alberta Ardvark's blog:

The Star,G&M, and Canwest forced to CHANGE reporters at Gitmo.

Read this link. Pentagon Bans Four Journalists From Guantanamo Bay for Reporting Interrogator #1’s Name

GUANTANAMO BAY — Two weeks’ worth of proceedings in the pre-trial hearing of Omar Khadr found an unexpected meta-conclusion this afternoon as the public affairs shop in the Office of the Secretary of Defense banned four reporters from returning to Guantanamo Bay. Their offense: reporting the name of a witness whose identity is under a protective order.

The four journalists are Michelle Shephard of the Toronto Star, Steven Edwards of Canwest, Paul Koring of the Globe & Mail and Carol Rosenberg of the Miami Herald. They are not being thrown off the base, but, as of now, they are barred from returning.

Three of the four banned journalists are CANADIAN reporters! Talk about embarrassing Canada! They are so arrogant that they think the laws don't apply to them, because they are sure Omar is an innocent, little baby boy, who would never have done anything wrong, except for the fact that our troops were in Afghanistan. So, it's all our troops fault.

Do we seriously want any confidential documents to get into the hands of those journalists? Can we trust the Liberals, who love leaking documents to the media, to not leak any of those documents? We know the Liberals even let reporters write their questions for them, and now, we are to believe that for purely political reasons, they will not leak to the Liberal friendly press?

Release those documents, or maybe not! I would feel much safer if those documents were kept secret, at least until our troops are home, and safe.

Sometimes, you have to love the US and their "hang em high" mentality and how they quickly and severely they deal with rule-breakers. No tears for these stupid reporters :-) I love it when our drug dealers, pedophiles, white collar crooks from Canada get real time in the US.

I am with you all the way Hunter...the push came to shove...and pushed their way in...it seems these days that if the people do not vote you into a powerful position..then...the best alternative is to become rude, annoying, devious and consistent..making the biggest noise and gathering allies along the way to get your cause off the ground..we are seeing this in all sorts of way within parliament...3 parties voting together to stick it to the government ( the people's government...I remind ) - now one of the main complainers or relentless pursuer...Mr. Derek Lee got looked and what do we find...he has two jobs, one of them periously close to the definitions of a lobbyist...he loudly proclaims that he never received any money within these pursuits to government...huh?--he got paid a salary didn't he..to satisfy a client...
It all doth smell hunter...really!!
what's to be done? The pushers seem to have won. Yuck. But what goes round, comes round as you said..so... and most of the time it comes back to bite.

It's pretty apparent that the opposition parties will get to see these documents, if for no other reason than to avoid an election, but I'll bet dollars to donuts that within 48 hours, or less, of the release the content will be leaked (but only the parts that the opposition feels will do the most damage) to the press.
