Okay, the rumours are now confirmed, a new party for Alberta Conservatives has been formed.

On Saturday, June 23, seventy-six Albertans gathered in Red Deer and
launched a political party.

They chose the name Wildrose Party of Alberta, after the province's floral
symbol of sovereignty within Confederation.

The party's main emphasis will be:

Reducing by constitutional means the enormous net outflow of wealth from
Albertans to the federal government

Ensuring that provincial decisions better reflect the mainstream values and
priorities of most Albertans

Ensuring that the party's Leader and MLAs honour their election promises
and commitments

The Wildrose group must now register as a nonprofit society, and then
collect 6004 Alberta signatures to gain party status. It will soon launch
an aggressive sign-up campaign to complete party registration by September,
in time for an October founding convention in Edmonton.

The Wildrose society/party also elected an executive on Saturday (see
below), and adopted a constitution.

The initiative began with an earlier Red Deer meeting (May 26) where fifty
people from diverse political backgrounds mostly agreed that existing
political parties can't or won't challenge the federal system and restrain
provincial spending.

The initiative was bolstered by two recent by-elections in which support
for conservative parties plunged overall, while liberal support did not
increase.

A province-wide poll conducted for the group by proCall Marketing of
Calgary found widespread desire across all of Alberta for a political
option of this sort.

It's so new that going to their site: www.wildroseparty.ca, just tells you it's coming soon. Now all they need is 6004 signatures, a leader and funds!

Okay, I still think they need a smart, good looking, menopausal, female to lead the party, so I'm putting my name forward the minute their site is up and running! HA!

Will this take off? It will depend on the leader, they need someone that will appeal to both urban and rural voters, that's going to be a tough one.
