Interesting Day!

I watched PM Harper make an announcement today, Pier 21 will become a national museum, he got a standing ovation for the announcement. CTV didn't bother to put it on the front page, and this was before any of the other events of the day. They also cut off the comments very quickly, guess they can't stand any positive coverage, even from themselves. Watch the videos on the right side of the page.

Then I read about Farrah Fowcett passing away. She suffered so much, it was almost a relief to hear that she had been released from that pain. It was nice to know that Ryan was with her at the end. A very classy lady.

Of course, the shocker of the day was the death of Michael Jackson, it was totally unexpected. I was driving home from work and the guy on the radio was talking about how he had been taken to the hospital suffering from a heart attack, by the time I got home and turned on the TV, he had been declared dead. Sad. He had such a roller coaster life.

This day reminded me of when Princess Diana died, and shortly after Mother Teresa followed. The world was so obsessed with the death of Princess Diana that Mother Teresa's death was all but ignored. I'm sure that Mother Teresa wouldn't have minded being overshadowed, but it was too bad that her good deeds got lost in all the media hype.

Farrah dies on the same day as Michael Jackson, and the news as all Michael, Farrah's death is being ignored, and somehow I suspect that she wouldn't mind. Personally, I think everyone has it backwards, and that they should be mourning Farrah far more than Michael. She had more moral fabric than Michael. She was a much better role model for our children than Michael.

An interesting, but sad day.

I remember Charlie's angels very well, let me tell you. While the majority of young men were nuts over Farrah, I was quietly falling in adoration with Jaclyn Smith. I saw Farrah in two movies afterward - the Burning Bed and that other one where she played a woman who had been raped - can't remember the name of it. I was pleasantly surprised by her acting talent. Her battle with cancer and not hiding the really ugly side of treatment further impressed me.

As for Michael - he was a cute kid when he was young and although his music wasn't my type, I respected his talent. Then, he went off on his tangent and I scratched my head. It's unfortunate that his life ended far too soon.

I never understood the fascination with Princess Diana - yes, she was beautiful and she did some very good work for humanity but she never inspired my admiration as did Mother Teresa. As for the Royal Family - I always liked Fergie best of all.

May they all rest in peace.

Announcing a national museum is not front page news.

What is news is that up to $3 billion (of our taxpayer) dollars is going to be given to Alberta drillers. Think about it. They are giving money to corporations to do what they were going to do in the first place. Drill baby drill. Ding, ding, ding CEO bonuses all 'round!!!

Celebrity deaths -- a form of voyeurism I think...

...or are you just making another anti-intellectual statement?

At the end of the day Pricess Diana went back to the palaces and Mother Teresa went home to the filth of the slums.

I'm now waiting for the tell-all books to be released by Jackson's plastic surgeon(s), McCaully Caulkin and paid off parents who sent thier kids on sleepovers to Jackson's Neverland rape rooms.

Regarding the news of Jackson's death, I'm wondering if the same people who fawn over his celebrity status yet turn a blind eye to his pedophilia because he was a successful musician would rush to the defense of a pedophile priest claiming, "well that may be true, but his sermons were so uplifting". Not bloody likely.

Too true, Eskimo. I remember when the kid thing first came up and Diane Sawyer interviewed him. When asked if he had molested the kid, he did not deny it but rather, kept repeating what his lawyer told him to say: "I would never harm a child".

When he dangled his baby off the balcony, I figured that if he had been an ordinary citizen, child protection services would have taken the baby away from him before you could take a breath.

He may have been a good musician but I never considered him to be the King of Pop - anybody who gives himself a title or uses a title is not impressive, in my books.

You are right about Mother Teresa - Diana did some wonderful things to help people but she also courted publicity while complaining about the press. To be honest, I like Camilla much more than Diana because Camilla has the backbone to be herself. She took so much abuse but she stuck with the man she loves and who loves her.

Mother Teresa - a very rare human. One who gave and gave and asked for nothing in return.

I'd prefer that the celebrities just 'shut up and sing'. I don't need to know about their political leanings, where they were spotted having dinner, who they're boinking, etc. And to those that thrive on the People magazine and Entertainment Tonight cheese, I say get a life.

Amen to that, Eskimo. There's nothing like some air-headed celebrity voicing his or her political views from the old ivory tower.

One of my favourites is Bono - talk about arrogant - he is going to push countries to give to other countries. Yeah, sure, Bono. Anything you say.

A joke I have told before: Bono came to address a crowd. Before speaking, he clapped his hands once. Ten seconds later, he clapped them again. He did this a few times and then informed the crowd that each time clapped his hands, a child in country x died. An old Scot stood up and said: well, then, stop clapping, ya daft twit.

Bono is a hypocrite. He likes to pretend that he champions the little guy and that 'government must do more', but he moves his music publishing to the Netherlands to avoid paying taxes in his home country of Ireland. Taxes that would go the his poor countrymen he claims he's fighting for.

Small wonder Paul Martin and Bono were pals. Just look how Martin's ships were adorned with the flags of other countries so he could avoid higher taxation, stricter labour laws, etc. and all the while taking 162 million in Candadian taxpayer money.

I think both of them are disgusting human beings.

It's so predictable for a leftist to zero in on one's spelling errors. This is typically the mark of someone with nothing to offer a conversation. Southern Quebec, you are an extraneous troll.

Mark Steyn's take on Michael Jackson is a must read.

Oh oh, better not tell Gabby that.

LS, you should be ashamed of yourself! That was a disgusting comment.

Gayle, we all have our own idiosyncrasies.

Mine is correcting spelling mistakes made by supercilious commenters.

Yours is parrotting Liberal talking points and anti-Harper diatribes in a supercilious manner.

See the connection?

You obviously do not read a lot of kursk. It fits him perfectly.

Why do you allow his disgusting comment to stand? Or perhaps you think it's ok to burn some things, but not others.

I see that you are a liar.

Got anything else?

As blog host, Hunter burns some comments and lets others stand - it's her blog. Deal with it.

Good on you, Hunter.
