They Have No Morals.

I was thinking about what to post, and looking for something that struck a nerve with me today. It was a beautiful spring like day out, so I really didn't pay any attention to politics. I did start my tomatoes today, if they all come up I will have more than 250 plants to get rid of. No one in my family actually eats the things, unless they are in a pasta sauce. Tomorrow I plant my petunias, dusty miller and various other annuals. That probably gives you a good idea of where my head is, and it's not on politics.

Looking back on the past two weeks, what has struck me is how weak the opposition is. Seriously, the Liberals are going to oppose the budget but they will make sure that 10 MP's will have the flu so they don't trigger an election? An unelected Liberal leader tells us that his MP's are against the budget but they are too scared to go to the people in an election so that we can vote? How democratic is that? The NDP and Bloc are voting against the budget because it doesn't have enough "goodies" for them. They are useless. When you have a party in parliament that will not sing our national anthem, democracy has been corrupted. The media is silent about all these things.

What the Conservatives should do is all show up for the budget vote and then leave just before the vote. What would the opposition do then? The NDP and Bloc are going to vote against the budget, leaving the Liberals hanging, but the Liberals might not have enough MP's in house to carry the vote. The opposition has been playing games for the last 4 years, it's time for the Conservatives to call them on it. Now that would grab my attention!

Talk about playing games, it sickens me every time I hear them disparage our troops, linking them to torture and then saying it's not our troops they are attacking, it's our government. They yap about "supporting the troops" but then they turn around and support Omar. I want a list of all the MP's who have children in the military. They have no morals. They have no plan, and they have no credibility.

Iggy thinks we should tie our foreign support to abortion and the Bloc thinks they deserve more money from Alberta while bashing us and telling us to shut down the oilsands. I wish the oil companies would do that for just one week. If they planned it properly they wouldn't lose much in the way of production, but they would show the east that even though they buy mideast blood oil, our oil makes our economy go round. Don't believe me? Watch what happens on the markets when the price of oil goes up or down.

Our media is disgraceful. They slammed the Olympics hoping to look sophisticated to the socialist European countries, until they realized that the games were a success, and then they jumped on board. They interview only far left "experts", guaranteed to disagree with the government no matter what the issue. They think their opinions are news.

I can't believe that the Conservative government has lasted this long. They have no friends in opposition or in the public service. Every single thing they do is blown out of proportion by the biased media. Case in point Harper prorogues, it's a major news event for over three weeks. Dalton prorogues.....crickets from the media.

Even my Liberal parents are getting disgusted with CBC's bias. I find CTV way more offensive, because they are more subtle, or I should say sneaky in their coverage.

The opposition are not interested in what is good for Canada, they are only interested in their own survival and power. They have no morals.

Well, where to start.I,ll be gentle.I would start singing oh Canada every day before the start of question period.Anyone who does not sing is not allowed into parliament or allowed to vote on any issue.Who gives a crap what the uproar would be in Quebec. It is Canada's parliament, not Quebec's and Canada sets the rules.

My Olympic viewing "hangover" has been cured by watching the Brier … hurray hard for at least 3 draws today.

It has been a long winter but no snow for me to shovel, and the spring sun has some good warmth to it. We have just finished the annual flower count with billions of blooms to report.

The seal in our harbour puts on its daily show at the fish plant as it begs the fishermen for some bites.

No need for any political thoughts, but did you see that Sarah Palin drew 1200 to her speech in Calgary yesterday at $150 a pop. Great to see that the world’s leading conservatives have a safe haven in Canada … the Alberta Advantage!

Planting flowers is a good thing. Think of all the CO2 you are using up …hhmmmm plant food EH!

Doing battle on a daily basis with:
very well organized 'progressive' special interest groups,
3 Opposition parties unoffical coalition,
3/4 of the national and regional media,
yet
5 budgets later and the Harper Govt breaks his own record for longest running minority in Cdn history.

No Conservative govt in Cdn history has EVER weathered an economic storm, a full blown recession.

PMSH asked Canadians to set aside their inhabitions during the Olympics,
and show patriotism like never before....and we did, with Glowing Hearts.

We have alot to be proud of.

I attended a concert last night put on by our very successful Community orchestra and a very unusual thing happened.

The moderator came on to do the introduction and, citing the example of the Olympics, requested that everyone rise and sing O Canada to open the concert.

It was wonderful and everyone participated wholeheartedly. It struck me then that this is something that we can and should do more often.

So, everyone involved in community events, lets start by opening them with O Canada the way they used to be. Cheers.

WCT, did you read today that Quebec now wants to form its own Olympic Team, and not be part of the Canadian Team. Wonder who would agree to compete on said team.
And how would they fund it, with money from Alberta.

MaryT ... interesting way to deal with the "Quebec issue". Convincing the IOC that Quebec has nation status shouldn't be too difficult then they could award the games to Quebec city and we are off to the races. Our good friend SQ could head up the delegation and sing (sic) his own made up song!

The possibilities are endless.

Before Canada supports Quebec on any further boondoggles.

Equalization is eliminated. Inquiry in the Pension Fund and Municipal contracts.

A revised agreement for Churchill Falls to reflect a more equitable agreement between NFLD/Quebec.

Scrapping language laws attacking minorities, interprovincial trade barriers restricting trade and work.

After Quebec agrees to every single condition, let talk games.

Tell you what Canadiansense, why don't you propose your said program at the next Conservative convention and see how it flies.

Talk about doing the Bloc's work for them. Unless you're a Newfoundlander, how do you have an interest in a prov incial dispute between Newfoundland and Quebec, unless you're motivated purely by hatred for Quebec.

As for language laws in Quebec, why don't you query Quebec Conservative MPs on this issue. The response might surprise you. Other than the anglophone minority, which does have its scholls, hospitals, marriages, divorces in English, the "minorities" you are referring to are immigrants, and yes, Quebec does have the right to set its language requirements.

I note that my previous comment on the discussion thread didn't make it through the filter, either by glitch or deliberate design.

Let me point out the obvious. I am not an adversary of the current Conservative government, although I do and may take issue with arguments raised by blogging tories, particularly when they differ from the official platform of the Conservative Party.

Now you and other commenters may derive personal satisfaction from Quebec-bashing and Quebec-baiting, but this let's vote Quebec off the island mentality is not a reflection of ofrficial Conservative policy, but rather a hangover from a Reform fantasy, and one that's not particularly helpful if your intent is to broaden rather than narrow Conservative Party support.

It's why I never voted for Reform, identified with Reform, correct me if I am wrong, but I understood their policy to be : let's bully and bash Quebec and invite them to leave and then threaten to beat them silly if they seek to do so.
Not particularly a vote getter or a sober platform for a party seeking a mandate to govern this country.

Unlike others, I don't miss the glory days of Reform Opposition when Reform MPs in Western Canada would urge constituents to phone Ottawa and voice complaints using the 1-800 French language service, and give them an earful, therewith displaying their contempt for the Official Languages Act.

Hunter - about the tomato plants, if they all come up and give a good yield... you could try to make tomato jam. Don't laugh, tomato jam can be excellent and your kids might like it. Healthy and full of nutrients.
All you have to do is remove the seeds from ripe tomatoes (the riper the better) and boil the toms with sugar and a handful of cinnamon sticks. Keep stirring until the mixture thickens and add a dollop of butter or marg to prevent the mixture from sticking.
Will last for months on end in the fridge.
