To My American Friends, Kill The Bill!

You are in for a world of pain if this health care bill passes. My family knows this from experience.

The last time I saw a doctor was when my 14 year old son was born, the only reason I was lucky enough to get a doctor was because I was in a high risk category. My family doctor retired, and no-one took his place, so I have been without a family doctor for over 16 years. My kids doctor retired, and no-one took his place, so my children have been without a doctor for 6 years. This is government health care, which you are about to get. You do not want it, ever.

Yes, everyone in Canada is covered, but that means that no-one really gets good care. It's not our doctors and nurses fault, it is the socialist philosophy that is at fault.

We have medi-centers, we have long, long wait lists for hip replacements (years), and every other procedure you might need, but it's all "free". Excuse me, it's not "free", the productive workers pay for it, and the unproductive abuse it. You get money deducted from your cheque for health care, and then if you want an upgrade you pay more, but you do not get more.

One of my favorite bloggers has all the information you need. Blue like You.

Once you have government health care, you can never change it because no party will touch it with a ten foot pole. It's like here in Canada where we have NO abortion law, so a woman can get an abortion as the baby is being delivered. It doesn't happen often, but it can, because no political party will touch the issue.

We do not have a two tier system here because politicians and special interest groups yell about only the rich will benefit. Funny how Danny Williams, a premier (Governor to you) went to the US to get treatment for his heart. Why? Your system is superior to ours, but even Williams won't admit it, yet he used it.

Think about our system. All doctors fight for time in our hospitals for surgery. This creates huge wait times. If the same doctor could perform surgeries in his office, our wait times would disappear. Right now, a doctor might get two hours a week in surgery. If they could have their own surgery units, that same doctor could have 30 hours in surgery, and our wait times would be decreased. Unfortunately, our politicians will never change this because our lefties/MSM would scream and shout so loud, no-one would support it.

So, I hope that your health care bill will not pass, you need to go back to the drawing board, this bill is downloading the cost of health care to your states. Our provinces are spending close to 50% on health care alone, and they are still crying for more money. It's an endless black hole of spending.

You are doing Americans a favour by giving them fair warning Hunter. And the part about Danny Williams is right on.

I feel sorry for Canadians without family doctors. I have an excellent doctor so I guess I'm one of the lucky ones but I worry about the day he decides to retire.

In any case, today should be an interesting day in the States.

A large US company, Caterpillar I think, reported that ObamaCare will add over $100 million to its costs. I doubt the CBO score takes this into account and thus O’Care will be pushing down the cost onto industry.

Many doctors will leave the US medical system as they won’t be making as much money treating Medicade patients. Maybe they will come to socialized medicine in Canada and Hunter you might be able to find a family doctor!!

I'll add to what you wrote, Hunter. Many Americans go to India for surgery - the cost is about 25% and the facilities are first-rate. Danny Williams, although I don't like his style, made a good point by going to the USA. Here in Ontario, not only do we pay the federal premium, but Lib McGuinty added a health tax which - are you ready - does not go into health care. At first he lied and said it was a premium and not a tax but then had to admit that it was a tax.

Oh, and on another topic, the Ontario government is about to hit us with a green tax on our hydro bills so that...ready for this..."Ontarians can breathe cleaner air". Yeah, right. Like we can filter out the pollution from the rest of the world. We're also going toward time of use billing so that we can 'better manage our electricity usage'. BS. The off-peak rate is higher than what we pay now. And, to make it even worse, the off-peak begins at 9 pm during the summer months.

Yup - the Libs sure like to ruin provinces and countries.

In Ontario, our hospitals are laying off nurses even though we're paying a health tax (which McGuinty diverts AWAY from health care) and even though we boomers are retiring and entering a phase when we will need health care.

My doctor is a few years younger than I am but when he retires, I'll be screwed unless he gets a doctor to replace him.

I once checked out the rates that doctors are paid for each service - it's peanuts, to be honest. I pay close to a thousand in provincial (not counting federal) costs per year and I certainly do not use anywhere near that amount in health care services. Is it any wonder that doctors can spend a max of 15 minutes per patient? Between their patient load and the low fees, I don't blame them for leaving the country.

Thanks to the left-wing and Paul Martin's theft of health care transfers, we boomers will not see a recovery of our health care system in our lifetimes.

Hunter, Joanne and other blogging tory nay-sayers: how's about you cut your government health cards? Do it on Youtube for all to see? Are you game?

You do have private for profit clinics in your home towns, just google or go through the yellow pages. Just do it.

So again, I put it to you. Cut your gov't health care cards on Youtube for all to see and hear. Are you game?

Didn't think so.

I call bullpuckey. This reeks of Shona Holmes' tall tale.

Firstly, the insurance reform being proposed in the states doesn't establish a Canadian single payer system. Not by a long shot. Comparing the two is ridiculous at best.

Secondly, the replacement of a family doctor isn't the government's responsibility in Canada. It's yours. I've had to do it several times in my lifetime and each time it's involved little more than contacting the health region. They're required to provide a list of GP's available to take on new, long-term clients. Then you simply make an appointment with the one of your choice. That you failed to take such simple action over 16 years says nothing at all about the system and a whole lot about your understanding of it.

As for the quality of care that Canadians receive, our relative life expectancies speak for themselves. You're only a short busride away from this terrible, oppressive system of healthcare.

Maybe you and Ms. Holmes might want to consider a Louisiana duplex? I hear real-estate prices are pretty good these days, and both of you could finally be free of the healthcare system you so detest.

And the lefties show up and expose themselves as the idiots they really are. Good job Audrey and especially Ti-Guy. Keep up the good work, you make my points for me but are too stupid to know it.

Hey Ti-Guy bet you didn't think I would post your comment, did you? Or are you just that stupid?

I called attention to the ignorance your post displayed of the Canadian Healthcare system, as it relates to both the proposed U.S. Insurance reform and to Canadians' own role in securing a family doctor.

How exactly does that "prove your point"?

Do you plan on ever actually addressing the difference between the insurance reform proposal and Canadian healthcare or the responsibility Canadian citizens have in finding their family doctors?

CK said...

Typical Conservative fashion, when you can't counter very good arguments that Audrey and myself make, you just simply rant about the lefties who just seem to make your life so hard.

Now, how's about it? You goin' to cut up that gov't health insurance card of your's and start using those private clinics? What say you?

I knew you wouldn't you're in good company.

CK, I will gladly cut up my card on YouTube the moment my premiums are no longer taken from my paycheque. If I could opt out, I would. Same for EI and CPP - if I could invest the premiums instead of having my money ripped away from me, I would. Social programs sound great but our dictatorial socialist governments force us to pay for what we don't want. So, yes, I would cut up my card if I no longer had to pay for it.

Think of this: the money we pay to support social programs doesn't go wholly to the programs. Look at Ontario's health premium - goes into general revenue and not into health care. Look at what Martin did to our EI premiums - into general revenue AND he made it more difficult to collect.

There you go, CK. Kind of blew your little taunt out of the water. The problem with lefties is that you don't, or can't, think.

Actually Huntsy, CK made a point that speaks directly to the hypocrisy of your post, hypocrisy so stunning you are evidently completely blind to it. Let's see you say that again, "that no one gets good care" here in Canada and that it's because of socialists. Let's see you stand on principle and take the scissors to your health card. I'm sure as a Reformatory you can do better. Well? Prove it! I'm sure the 32,000,000 million people in the states who now have access to care will be most interested.

'Hey Ti-Guy bet you didn't think I would post your comment, did you? Or are you just that stupid?'

Oh, oh, I know, I know. Pick me, teacher. I know the answer. Ti-Guy really is just that stupid. Yes, that is the answer to that question. Ti-Guy is THAT stupid.

Stereo: read my comment. The offer stands - remove the premium from my taxes and I'll make my own health care arrangements. If the lefties are so much in favour of freedom, how about giving me the freedom to choose yes or no to public health care, yes or no to CPP and EI. Sorry, Stereo, can't have us burning our cards and still reaping the tax dollars.

Well East, your dude Harper's been in power since for how long?

Still only a minority, hmmm...I wonder does he have the courage to give you back your premium today?

Quite doubtful. The best he can manage to do is screw up the supply of medical isotopes for he whole world.

I might be wrong but I thought old Harper first ran on a platform that included cutting hospital wait times. But if he's ever pressed about health care these days he just defers to the provinces. What an irresponsible bag of wind he turned out to be.

East of Eden: Remove the prenium from your taxes.

You just further illustrated that culture of greed dear. No! no! no!
You want to not pay taxes ever? Go live in the woods anonymously then.

Taxes are a part of being members of society, dear.

Health care, EI and CPP are just a part of it. We all pay into EI. Flaherty's last budget clearly mentions a hike in the prenium; yet if any one of us looses our jobs, our benefits don't go up...

No,you don't want to pay taxes? Then here's what else you must do:

Don't drive on the government paid roads and highways. Don't drink tap water or flush that toilet. Don't eat wheat, meat or produce; those farms are government subsidized. If you smoke, then quit; tobacco farms are still subsidized. Don't send your kid to public school. If your kid goes to a private school, make sure that school doesn't have a tax exemption. Perhaps you should lobby the government to get rid of that military; excercise in socialism if there was any...sub contract that out...to mercenaries.

Honestly, you were never taught to share your toys with your siblings or are you still sore about the sharing lessons?

Paying taxes is part of belonging to society. you can't decide where your tax dollars go.

I don't like paying subsidies to Canadian Constitution Foundation so they can enjoy tax exemptions. I don't like paying the senators' salaries, I don't like paying for that war in Afghanistan, but I can't exactly ask them to stop killing in my name, now can I??

So, once again, Eden, burn your cards or stop complaining, but unless you move into a teepee in the woods with no fixed address, your suggestion simply doesn't work.

CK's got it right. EoE's position is typical of the anti-tax right. They want to enjoy all of the benefits of government involvement while rending their garments at the prospect of paying for it.

I'd love to see a youTube video of EoE going just a single week without making use of any services or infrastructure that his/her taxes pay for. Bonus points if it shows EoE handling a catastrophic injury or illness or dealing with the prospect of crime. The issue isn't what services you make use of, but rather the infrastructure necessary to provide the services that need to be there in the event that something you didn't plan for occurs.

If EoE wants his/her pay-for-nothing-get-nothing libertarian paradise, I suggest he/she move to Somalia for a few months. Maybe then he/she will have a new perspective on the horrors of the safety nets provided by western democracies.

The same goes for Hunter. If Canadian "totalitarian" healthcare is so bad, nothing's preventing you from moving to a location with a more privatized system. I'd love to see a youTube video the U.S. government "replacing" Hunter's family doctor for her!

CK: it is unfortunate that you cannot read. I said to remove the premium. I did not once say I didn't want to pay taxes. Face it - your argument was blown out of the water and now you are trying to save it by making up stuff? That is the trouble with you lefties - your ideas are weak and when they are blown, you start to skate. Sorry, CK, you lost this one. Problem with lefties is that you cannot accept defeat with any grace whatsoever. Nice try to divert and blur the whole argument. My comment stands and yours disintegrated.
