As a blogger, I should be watching all the political shows. I should be watching Question Period everyday, and I should be reading all the newspapers to get a good idea of what the talking points for the day are, for all political parties. I tried that, it was depressing. So, I stopped.
I stopped, because I was tired of reading and listening to leftist slop. I don't need to read the Toronto Star to get the news. They do not report the news, they report their opinions disguised as the news, same with CBC and CTV. I disagree with their opinions, therefore I don't read or listen to them. It's simple, easy and reduces stress.
Of course, my trolls will yell that I'm not getting a rounded opinion if I ignore everything lefty. So what? Why do I need to listen to their yapping?
I am a Conservative, I know what I stand for, and I know what direction I want to see my country go in. If that doesn't match up with lefties views, too bad. Conservatives need to get that spark back, that hunger for our views to be heard. We need to stop listening to the biased MSM, they can't stand us, we know that, so why support them by even reading their views online?
We need to do as Sandy over at Crux of the Matter advocated, don't get mad, get positive. Ignore the opposition gnats, think about how lucky we are that the Conservatives are in government. Think about what an adult Canadian does everyday. We get the kids to school, get ourselves to work, come home and watch curling or the food channel (I love that channel, if I cooked like those chefs, I'd weight 200 pounds), then we go to bed, and repeat it all the next day. Sounds boring, but it's better than being in Afghanistan!
Who is spinning the political issues? The MSM. Why? Profits. Stop going to those papers you disagree with on political issues, as their readership dies, so goes their ad income. If a tiny store in Quebec can be boycotted by lefty activists because they sell shoes from Israel, then we can boycott those newspapers and TV shows that we disagree with as well, fair is fair. Conservatives aren't big on protesting in person, we are too busy working, but we can protest online. We can make sure we comment on articles. We can email our MP's. We can stop being the silent majority, we can make our voices heard through facebook, twitter, and blogging. Don't get mad, get positive!
Here's how you can do it, humour works.

Elevate Decorum? HA!
I like Micheal Chong, but I fear his private members bill is due to die. Why? The opposition don't want to be respectable. They want the "got you" moments caught on camera and broadcast on TV.
MP seeks to 'elevate decorum' of Question Period
Seriously, Nicholas stern? He has been discredited years ago. Why should the government respond to "knuckles grazing the floor"? That is despicable, and Rae deserved to be booed.
Jennings wasn't seriously expecting an answer, she has been one of the most vocal Liberals against Helena. Doesn't the Liberal pink book talk about "equality for women"? Yet it's okay to insinuate and smear. The media refuses to cover Liberal Lee for his "alleged" lobbying and Pablo for his arrest and "alleged" failure to blow...where are the MADD Mom's? Strangely quiet. Yet the media has made Helena's and Rahim's lives miserable.
I seriously hope MP's from ALL parties support this bill, but I don't think they will. They are too intent on getting back into power and will not want their "star" performances curtailed.
A better bill would have been to cancel immunity for ALL MP's in Question Period. This rule goes back before TV and blogs, it is obsolete, and MP's are used it to saying anything they want without fear of legal action. I also think they should stop reading off of a prepared card, if an MP has some issue for their constituency, they should be able to get up and ask a question. Cabinet Ministers should be able to answer whatever question gets thrown at them.
Elevate Decorum? How about paying more attention to your constituents, and less time smearing the government.
MP seeks to 'elevate decorum' of Question Period
Here's Liberal MP Bob Rae last week asking the government why it is not following the climate-change strategies proposed by people like British economist Nicholas Stern:
"Mr. Speaker, the government is living so far in the past it is not funny. Sir Nicholas Stern -
Some hon. members: Oh, oh!
Hon. Bob Rae: Mr. Speaker, I am hearing a lot of heckling. I did not know 250 knuckles grazing the floor could make so much noise."
Seriously, Nicholas stern? He has been discredited years ago. Why should the government respond to "knuckles grazing the floor"? That is despicable, and Rae deserved to be booed.
Last week, Liberal MP Marlene Jennings asked the government what the RCMP was investigating in regards to former Cabinet minister Helena Guergis. Mr. Baird responded thusly: "Mr. Speaker, I am not going to speak for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. What I can do is speak as a member of the House of Commons. Why did the Liberal leader appoint a senior member of his caucus to the most important regulatory oversight committee, a man who is advertising himself as a paid lobbyist for foreign interests, specifically saying that he could get regulations changed?"
(Mr. Chong has a bit of a history with taking stands on principle, having resigned as minister of intergovernmental affairs in 2006 because he disagreed with the motion that recognized the Québécois "nation.")
His motion, though, goes much further than suggesting that the Speaker be encouraged to metaphorically swing a bigger stick in the House. He suggests changing the rules around QP in order to eliminate the practice of having all questions vetted by the party whip and House leader; to set aside one day a week for the prime minister to be answerable in the House; to have other ministers available for two of the remaining four days; and to end the 35-second limit on answers that encourages snappy retorts and one-liners rather than thoughtful responses.
These measures are part of the same general theme: getting QP focused on "substantive issues more than political point-scoring," says Mr. Chong.
I seriously hope MP's from ALL parties support this bill, but I don't think they will. They are too intent on getting back into power and will not want their "star" performances curtailed.

Political Shows...Anyone Watching?
When I started to get political, I watched Mike Duffy, CPAC, Question Period, and Don Martin. I listened to radio shows like Rutherford. I went to sites like Rabble, and quickly realized they were practicing freedom of speech, only for lefties. I finally found Free Dominion, and enjoyed commenting there. The first blog I found was Small Dead Animals, and I was instantly captivated by Kate's style. She was and is a refreshing voice for all things political.
I watched, I listened, I commented and finally, I decided to try blogging. I spent years blogging to myself mainly, but it was a great release for me, so I kept at it. Then I made the main page on Blogging Tories, and my page hits went up dramatically. All of a sudden, my voice was being heard! I still take it as a great honour to be a Blogging Tory.
As I evolved politically, I stopped watching political TV shows because of their bias and with a full time job, I just really don't have the time to listen to them. So far, I'm not missing much as far as I can see.
I would like to know what the viewing numbers are for CTV now that Duffy has left. The way they treated him was despicable and probably turned off a lot of people. He was popular until he became a Senator, then the lefties got nasty. Wasn't Liberal PEI involved again in slagging a Conservative? Typical. Same goes for CBC with Martin gone, what are the numbers for the new show? I suspect the viewing audience has diminished quite a bit. Are those numbers available anywhere? Only political junkies really care about these shows.
A typical day in my life, is dog pooling, work, make supper, help with homework, watch the local news, and then blog about something that bugged me that day. Who has time to watch the real Question Period, or any of the political shows? They come on here in Alberta at 3:00 while everyone is still at work. Nice Ontario bias by the networks. So they are catering to the Toronto audience. That is why the Liberal party only wins in Toronto.
Is anyone watching political shows anymore? Maybe the better question is: Why should we?

Too Much Time On Their Hands!
I already miss the proroguing of Parliament. I haven't been able to watch QP this week, but I don't really need to because it's just back to the same garbage as before Christmas. It's time for MP's to take a look at their responsibilities. First and foremost, they need to listen to their constituents. We don't need 308 MP's going to Ottawa to argue about this bill or that. We have too many laws and bills now. Maybe OUR representatives could start cutting some of the red tape and rid Parliament of endless bills that just tie us down as citizens. Every bill that gets passed takes away a little bit more of our freedoms. Here is how stupid our society is getting:
Britain's latest nanny-law targets unruly dogs
I know it's Britain, but it appears their legislators have way too much time on their hands. Make work so that MP's can justify their salaries?
How about let's adopt the Texas method:
They meet every two years, do they get anything done?
If 17 days of prorogue sent our opposition parties into a frenzy, can you imagine the Conservative government proposing they only meet every two years for 140 days? Yikes!!! It's not going to happen of course, because the opposition feed off of Question Period. They are addicted to getting their faces in front of the cameras. Case in point Jack Layton during the Canada-USA gold medal hockey game, front and center and making sure not even a female gets in his way. So rude and lacking class Jack.
Here is an idea to make Canada better. Go through all our laws, starting with the very first one, and if they no longer apply, get rid of them. Update them, and write them without all the legal terminology. Give the government back the right to MAKE the laws, and cut off the Supreme judges power to decide what the law REALLY means.
Start with the HRC's. I know the Conservatives are scared that not enough people support getting rid of the HRC's, but it's time, after 4 years in office, for the Conservative government to grow some resolve, and take some positions that might not be popular with the lefties (Hint: they are not EVER going to vote for you anyways). Federal Conservatives need to look to Alberta, the reason Wildrose is so popular is that the provincial conservatives are acting like liberals. It's time for the federal Conservatives to at least act like conservatives.
Our MP's have too much time on their hands, and have lost their way. All MP's need to get back to their ridings and listen to what the people are saying, not what their parties are telling them to say.
Britain's latest nanny-law targets unruly dogs
Britain already leads the world in spying on its citizens with closed-circuit cameras. There are 4.2 million cameras in Britain, one for every 14 people, and twice as many as China uses to keep control if its 1.3 billion people, according to the Daily Mail.
You'd think that would satisfy the government's need to intrude on the lives of the average Brit, but not even close. The latest scheme is aimed at extending state control over dogs.
The Independent reports that plans are under consideration to force dog owners to buy insurance to cover themselves in case their pet attacks someone, and also to require that every dog be microchipped.
I know it's Britain, but it appears their legislators have way too much time on their hands. Make work so that MP's can justify their salaries?
How about let's adopt the Texas method:
The Texas Legislature meets in a regular session every two years, convening on the second Tuesday in January of every odd-numbered year. These biennial sessions are limited to 140 days. The governor can also call additional special sessions as necessary, which cannot exceed 30 days.
They meet every two years, do they get anything done?
81st Texas Legislative Session (2009)
The governor signed 1,656 bills and resolutions, vetoed 38 and allowed 12 to become law without his signature from the Regular Legislative Session that ended on June 1, 2009. Two additional bills were passed in a Special Session held July 1-2, 2009.
If 17 days of prorogue sent our opposition parties into a frenzy, can you imagine the Conservative government proposing they only meet every two years for 140 days? Yikes!!! Liberal Hypocrites!
Liberals being hypocrites was the theme of question period today. Funny how CTV carried question period live yesterday, but today....nothing. Too bad the expected public outrage didn't materialize. Exactly the reverse happened, even a CTV poll went way wrong.
The opposition parties are demanding Finance Minister Jim Flaherty be fired. Do you agree?
Yes 35%
No 65%
Today, both PM Harper and Minister Flaherty wiped the floor with the opposition.
What bothers me most is this little ticking bomb that the media is running with.
CPP bosses to receive millions in bonuses
Most Canadians do not understand that CPP is NOT managed by the government. Just like the Bank of Canada is totally independent from the government, so is CPP. This is a VERY good thing. EI is managed by the government and that is how the Liberals were able to take $54 Billion from the fund for their pet projects. Imagine if the 100 Billion in the CPP was in government hands, many pensioners would end up with nothing. Liberals drained a healthy EI fund, they would do the same thing with CPP.
EI is paid by employers and employees, it should be separated just like CPP, so governments can not get their hands on it. Now the Liberals are pushing for the government to interfere in the workings of the CPP, this is a very scary direction that both the Liberals and the MSM are taking. The MSM is using the envy factor (big bonuses) to ramp up the issue and they are making sure that the Conservatives get blamed for the bonuses granted by an independent board.
Yet if the Conservatives try to get freedom for our western farmers from the Canadian Wheat Board, that's close to being a dictatorship, and jailing farmers is what deserves to happen to those knuckle dragging red necked westerners anyways. It doesn't matter that eastern farmers can sell their wheat to anyone they want, and that ticks me off, why aren't the eastern farmers standing with their western brothers? Greed? Fear of competition?
If eastern farmers think the Canadian Wheat Board is such a great idea, they should be forced to join it just like our western farmers, that would show true solidarity. I thought Ontario farmers were like our western farmers, but sadly they are willing to see western farmers crushed by the CWB yoke.

CPP bosses to receive millions in bonuses
The heads of the Canada Pension Plan are slated to take home millions in bonus payouts this year, even as the fund struggles and the economy slips deeper into recession.
According to the fund's annual report just released by the CPP Investment Board, David Denison, the president and CEO of the CPP, along with his top four executives, will take home a total $8.5 million in pay and bonuses for the 2009 fiscal year.

Three Up, Three Down!
Now that the budget has passed, Question Period is a little funnier, with even the Liberals able to laugh at themselves. I can't tell what was yelled at Iggy, but everyone seemed to find it extremely funny. Too bad you won't see these zingers on the evening news, it might reduce the partisan fighting.
That said, I have been trying to decide who Iggy reminds me of the most, maybe you can help me decide.

We've already had Kermit the Dion, so is it Count Iggy or Iggy the Grouch?
UPDATE: Rural and Right, wins the contest hands down with this photo:

Awesome job Rural and Right!

Question Period: They're Back!!!!
Parliament is back in session, and I look forward to lots of bloopers and zingers. We have already had some in the last two days, mainly a Layton/Harper match up.
Iggy was just plain boring, so Layton must have felt he had to uphold the coalition image. HA! Funny how the three leaders of the opposition are all about themselves and not the coalition. Duceppe was upset because Quebec only gets 8+ Billion in equalization payments and some band wasn't able to travel overseas on the taxpayers dime, oh, and let's not forget Alberta, the Bloq sure has a hate on for Alberta! Maybe we should keep the 8+ Billion we send to lazy Quebec, then they would really have something to whine about!
To see the whole "show", you can go here, pick a day, and have fun! ParlVu has a new advanced feature which has a really clear picture, way better than what they were offering before, so hopefully the quality of my videos will improve too.
Anyways, thank goodness the coalition is dead, for now, I could not have put up with Layton as a Minister, of anything.

QP Nov 20/08: They're Back!!!
It's been a long time since QP happened, but it appears as if it's the same old junk from the opposition parties. Here is the abridged version of question period, from my point of view. If you don't like it, make your own video.
Welcome to the MP newbies!
As I watched QP I realized that the players are mainly the same, especially for the bloq. What is different is that Conservative MP's and Ministers are feistier. They are not taking the lefty garbage. James Moore slammed the bloqhead into the ground. I was reminded of the "whack a mole" game, that's what the Conservatives were doing to the opposition. One would stand up, spout and the Minister would whack'em. I hope it continues, the Conservatives are finally taking charge, standing up and firing at the opposition parties.
They continued to invite the opposition to present their ideas to help the economy, and the opposition repeatedly failed to do so. They're back and just as dysfunctional as ever.
At least my MP, James Rajotte comported himself as usual; calm, directed and non-confrontational, heck even Liberal MP Shawn Murphy (Hang'em High) from PEI likes him. (Is that a good thing?)
They're back!

Question Period May 27- Count With Me!
I might have missed one, even so, 42 minutes out of the hour on slimy "it's not about the girl" comments. Let's start monitoring ALL MP's and their behaviour. You want to go out on a date, security check first. You want to escape with your lover, (not your wife) security check, and call to the wife. You want to go for a drink at HY's? Check the security of all those press types hanging out at the bar.
The opposition was ridiculous today. Peter Van Loan had to get up for just about every question in the House. At one point he got shouted down. My kids behave better in school than the opposition.
A sure sign that the opposition is going nowhere is the fact that all they do is try to scandal monger. Not one question about the environment, when PM Harper is over in Europe for the specific purpose of promoting environmental issues.
It strikes me that the Liberals haven't really accepted the fact that they are not in power. Most importantly, they should be ashamed of themselves for helping to destroy a good MP's career. Jealousy is like an acid that eats away at morals.

Best of QP, May15, 2008: UFO's Have Landed!
This one ended up being a little different, all the interesting sound bites were in the Member's Statements, and it ends with a very peculiar landing of UFO's! If anyone has the scoop on what happened, I would love to know. It appears CBC MP Pablo went ballistic, but seeing as it wasn't on camera, I can't confirm it.
Other than the Member's Statements, nothing was really interesting. Liberals were still smearing, NDP were yapping, and the Bloq, well, who cares about the Bloq. Maybe the opposition MP's should call up all those unemployed artists, and get them to script their performances.

Best of QP May 14, 2008: Smear, and Smear
How do you answer questions in QP that are just smears, made up scandals and outright partisan attacks. Maybe with smears of your own? Nope, even though I am sure the Conservatives have plenty of ammo, they are not stooping to the opposition's level.
Desperation is never pretty, and all opposition parties are coming up flat. Their attacks are so petty that they look like fools by even asking the questions. What gulls them is that day after day this Conservative government, is running the country, and doing a great job. They never expected them to get into power, so they still haven't adjusted to the fact that the Conservatives rule.

Best of QP May 13, 2008 Dead Party Walking
Slander, corruption, smears, you name it, the "dead party walking" tried it today! We got Mulroney, Cadman, in and out, up and down, sideways, backwards, biker chicks, but the Liberals ended up hanging upside down, like bats, in caves. Luckily Iggy has the Puffins to hide their excrement, they just can't find any Puffins right now.
Seriously, all the Liberals did was fling poop hoping something would stick, like monkeys in the zoo. It's getting embarrassing for them, no policy, no principles, no morals.
PM Harper treats Dion's question with the respect it deserves, none. Various Conservative MP's provide ZINGERS as backup. Can you smell the winds of change? Conservatives are fighting back. It's Tuesday, where is the weekly "scandal"? Come on Globe/CTV haven't you fed some Liberal something? Anything?
Liberals, the "Dead Party Walking", and loving it!

Best of Question Period May 12, 2008
Quite a boring QP overall, but I did find some interesting segments. Liberals continue to smear, what do they think they gain by that?
Szabo stands up and gets slammed. Findlay stands up and gets slammed, as a matter of fact, the Liberals just plain got slammed. Even the useless, pension loving, Canada hating, Bloq get slammed. That's how it went, Conservatives won this day!

Best of QP May 8, 2008
Well, this was a silly session, all smear, no substance. It just shows how desperate the Liberals and Bloq are becoming as their numbers are falling, fast.
Biker babes with nice teats make news, so expect this to go on, and on, and on. I wonder how many MP's would like a light shone on their personal life? Away from home all week, lonely, tempted by young sexy assistants, do the MP's resist temptation or not?
This opens up a door that MP's should have thought of before their stomped all over Bernier, be careful who you accuse, your turn might be next, and your wife might not like it. Bet some young interns have stories to tell now that the door has been opened.
Bernier is single, he can date whoever he likes, how about the married MP's, are they fair game now? Can a MP raise in the House and accuse another MP of cheating on his wife? This could be fun, or it could wreck families, is that what the Liberals want? Can anyone now stand up in the house and smear another MP because they took their assistant out to lunch?
PM Harper was right, Dion and Duceppe are busy buddies. May the two misfits enjoy life in the no go lane.

Best of Question Period, May 7, 2008
This episode is complete with Duceppe going off the roof and diving into a pool of goofy. Red faced, and spitting, he loses control. I'm ashamed that we have such a party in Canada, they are disrespecting all people who are Canadian by pretending they are superior to everyone. I usually call the Liberals arrogant, but the Bloq has them beat by a mile (kilometre).
It almost makes me regret that I spent over $2,000 for my son to go visit Quebec this year. Almost, because he loved Quebec, and he was treated royally by the people of Quebec. Thank you Quebec, you made my sons first adventure away from home one that he will remember all his life. From what he tells me, he stumbled into a deli in Montreal, and had, according to him, the best "sandwich" he had ever had in his life.
I love Quebec for the unique flavour it brings to Canada, and hope they wake up and vote the Bloq out. They threaten to tear our majestic country apart, and can never be anything but opposition. Quebec would be better served by Conservative MP's who can actually make changes.
Clement makes a very important point about how committees are stalling good legislation from passing. Most committees appear to be dysfunctional due to opposition partisan agendas. Sad. They refuse to vote this government down, so they do everything they can to disrupt it. Sneaky little thugs.
You need to watch the last bit, finally Thibault is guilty of Conflict of Interest in the Schreiber affair, duh, you think? He tries to slime his way out of it, but gets called out by David Tilson. Suck it up Thibault, you met with Schrieber numerous times, and had no right to question former PM Mulroney.
All in all, an eye opening Question Period.

Best Of QP, May 6, 2008
I am going to try doing these "Best of Question Period" mini-videos as often as I can, but they are very time consuming to make. First you need to record the clips you want, then you need to edit them, then you need to get the video on Youtube, then finally you need to write a post on your blog. Phew, I'm tired. It's worth it as long as people click and watch the video though. So, here's todays "Best of..."
Enjoy, I'm off to bed.

Best Of Question Period, May 5, 2008
Most people are too busy to watch Question Period, so here is the short version. It's quite challenging to reduce 45 minutes into 5 or 6 minutes, only the best responses get the spotlight. If you think this is partisan, too bad, do your own version of QP.
My response is found in the subtitles.
H/T to Reid from Right from Alberta.

NDP Gone Wild!
I saw it, but I wasn't sure what the heck was going on. NDP MP Mulcair went wild during Members Statements.
Then I read this post:
Civilized Dialogue - The Thomas Mulcair Story
Thomas Mulcair, the lone NDP MP from Quebec, probably has his days numbered after this incident. This is one of those *where to begin* cases for me, and it really looks badly on all parties in the House.
I went looking for the tape of the incident, and here it is:
You can't see much of what is happening, but you can hear the disruption, and finally the Speaker of the House, tells the Member from Outremont to settle down. It's pretty clear Mulcair lost it big time.
Call it our sixth sense, but women need it to sniff out who might be just a little bit "off", and Mulcair has never passed my sniff test.
What is clear is that Mulcair might have been passionate about what he was talking about, but anger management should be a required course for some MP's, from all parties.

Garth Gets Owned!
Joanne, had this post up on Friday. So, I played around with some programs today, here you have my first attempt at video making. James Moore positively owns Garth in question period.
Try this link, if the other doesn't work.
Copyrights belong to the Library of Parliament and ParlVU. My slicing is not up to par, so forgive the repeats in the video. If the video doesn't work, go to view this clip and fast forward to 1:41:40, it's all there.
Moore: We kicked him back into the Liberal party where he belongs.....We want nothing to do with Garth Turner! Funny thing is, it sounded like all parties were clapping at one point. So, who really wants Garth?

Hang Him High!!!

What doesn't show up in Hansard, can be clearly heard on tape. Liberal MP Shawn Murphy, yelling "Hang Him High, Hang Mulroney, Hang Mulroney" and various other comments about nooses. Don't believe me? (MP Ed Fast from Abbotsford is speaking, watch and listen to Murphy on his right.)
Go to view clip, fast forward to 4:12:00 and listen for yourself. If you missed yesterdays Question Period, continue listening, it's all there in disgusting glory!
Hang Him High! SHAME on Shawn Murphy. Shame on all Liberals for attacking Chuck Cadman and his memory.
This is in support of Canadian Blue Lemon's post yesterday!
If you have never watched Question Period, this is the one you NEED to watch. It shows how lacking in morals, honesty and compassion Liberals are, anything for a vote. Watch the faces of the NDP when Liberals are bringing up Cadman, question, after question, they are as disgusted as I was, yet NDP MP Pat Martin, a member of the so called Ethics Committee, also weighed in on the issue. Expect to see the ethic's committee take on this new "scandle". The only party that showed any class by not bringing this issue up was, the Bloq.
Hang Him High! A very good glimpse into what the Liberals are really thinking.
UPDATE: MP Ed Fast, on Friday, raises this as a Point of Order! He states that Murphy said "hang Mulroney" five times! Speaker will review the matter. It's very clear on the tape!
UPDATE II: Mike Duffy shows clip of Murphy and the Liberal pundit tries to make it seem okay for a MP to talk about lynching a former PM. Typical, who would expect the Liberals to just apoligize for clearly inappropriate comments. Good for you Duffy, you have balls!
