Let The Love Fest Begin!

Will Obama have to face protesters in Canada like Bush did? Are the pro-Hamas forces going to be out in numbers because Obama thinks Israel has the right to defend itself? Will anti-American lefties burn the American flag in protest? HA! Right. It's going to be a love fest with lefties unable to control their most basic bodily functions.

I'm happy that Obama will be visiting Canada first, I just hope that we can keep all the radicals corralled. Let's go back in time to see how other Presidents have been welcomed in Canada.

Bush Visits Canada Amid Anti-War Protests

Posted on: Tuesday, 30 November 2004, 12:00 CST

OTTAWA - President Bush sought Tuesday to patch up relations with Canada after years of bickering, flying here for tough hemispheric and global talks amid boisterous demonstrations from opponents of the U.S. led-war in Iraq.

Bush's trip here was the first official visit by a U.S. president in nearly 10 years and his meeting with Prime Minister Paul Martin was akin to a political dance; Bush wanted to avoid any missteps that could amplify anti-Americanism north of the U.S. border.

The first official visit by a US President in 10 years???? Weren't the Liberals in power for all of those years? Hey what about Clinton, didn't lefties drool over him?

Meet Bill Clinton's Mistress: Belinda Stronach

Apparently tongues were wagging in both the British tabloids and in the Great White North that Bill Clinton was getting a little action from Canadian Liberal MP, Belinda Stronach---and nobody bothered to tell me! Shame on you.

Clinton Visits Chrétien

As Prime Minister Jean Chrétien showed President Bill Clinton around Parliament Hill last week, pointing out the soaring arches and stone work of the Centre Block rotunda, it was hard to ignore the evident affection between the two leaders, the undertones of chatter, the warmth in the two-armed handshakes. So taken was Chrétien with his visitor that he even changed his schedule to see Clinton off when Air Force One headed back to Washington at the end of the two-day summit. The sentiment was also apparently shared by the two wives, Aline Chrétien and Hillary Clinton, who went skating together on the Rideau Canal. Chrétien and Clinton did not sing together, but it was all pretty chummy, as the Prime Minister himself acknowledged. "When we're alone," said Chrétien, "I call him Bill."

So, it appears the Liberals loved Democrat President Clinton, some more than others. How did the Liberals fare with Republicans under Chretien and Martin?

Bush snubs Chretien in Asia Chilly relationship continues at APEC
summit

BANGKOK - He scratched at the door, but White House officials weren't
letting Prime Minister Jean Chrétien in today. The prime minister has
requested a formal one-on-one meeting with U.S. President George W.
Bush during the two-day APEC summit here this week - but the demand so
far has met with nothing more than silence.

Chrétien and Bush were expected to bump into each other several times
during the summit of 21 world leaders, but U.S. officials shrugged off
a Canadian request for a formal bilateral meeting between the men, who
have never had a close personal relationship.

"We told them that if we can, we should sit down," said a senior
Canadian official, who requested anonymity. "If not, we'll meet in
pull-asides (informal meetings)."

OTTAWA — President Bush (search) tried on Tuesday to repair U.S.-Canadian relations strained by years of bickering over trade and Iraq, although he stood by policies that have irritated Canadians.

He did promise Prime Minister Paul Martin (search) to work toward easing a U.S. ban on Canadian beef.

Even as thousands of Canadian protesters thronged the streets to protest his visit, Bush brushed aside suggestions that his decisions had damaged U.S.-Canada ties. Asked about polls that show Canadian opposition to his policies runs high, Bush pointed to his own re-election this month as the survey that mattered.

"We just had a poll in our country when people decided that the foreign policy of the Bush administration ought to stay in place for four more years," Bush said at a joint news conference with Martin.

"I made some decisions, obviously, that some in Canada didn't agree with, like, for example, removing Saddam Hussein (search) and enforcing the demands of the United Nations Security Council," Bush said.

More lefty protesters, and a big snob from GW Bush. Can you imagine what would have happened if PM Harper had been snubbed by the US like Chretien was, the media would have gone ballistic. Let's also not forget this little gem:

Yup, those Liberals sure are classy! After CBC's equally classy smearing of Obama, I must agree with Joanne at Blue Like You, keep CBC away from Obama, they are an embarrassment!

Hint to lefties...if you want to appear semi-intelligent, keep your protesters at home and don't allow Layton, Duceppe or May anywhere near Obama either. Iggy, being a Bush war supporter might have to be hidden as well.

The love fest will be something to see, all those unions, econuts, anti-war protesters and other assorted lefties, screaming as if Obama is some sort of rock star. The jealousy because PM Harper gets to greet their god and not the coalition will be funny. You can expect the lefties to have signs pleading for Obama to save Canada from PM Harper, the bully.

I can feel the love already!

Isn't it sad, that the leftie radicals, humiliated themselves and Canada, when they obnoxiously demonstrated against an, American President.

I thought to myself after reading your post, Conservatives in this country, do not show that disrespect, to either side from the US.

I believe that Obama was elected because he was the media favorite. He had nothing other than words as a resume and is completely unproven as the, great one. And yet we are willing to respect the US electorate and give him, the benefit of the doubt.

If he messes up,I see leftie radicals, demonstrating against him, before conservatives. It's just their MO.
I wonder why they are so intolerant and judgemental?

throughout most of Canadian history, the electorate tends to have variously inconsistent opinions on how US-Canada relationships should be handled. but the general trend is that Democrats get away with a lot of things. if it was a Democratic president and they want to install nuclear missiles on your turf, you better not speak up or you might risk a cabinet revolt!

and now, everything incites a lefty hissy fit, including a mere visit to Canada, because since Canadian legislation calls for arresting war criminals on Canadian ground, and - uh - GEORGE BUSH IS A WAR CRIMINAL!

apparently, learning from history is for losers.

Way back in university, I knew a total left-winger. He even went to work for 6 months in what was then Yugoslavia - he was totally into the communism thing. Well, 30+ years later, we met up and believe it or not, he is no longer one of them. He's now middle-ground. He turned into one of the most generous and kind people I've ever met and other than his huge heart, is indistinguishable from the rest of us conservative types. The reason, I suspect is the occurence of marriage and parenthood.

When he was an extreme left-winger, he spouted propoganda without understanding the whole picture or even what the propoganda meant - if it was left-wing, it was good. If it was right-wing, it was bad. Needless to say, at that time, we were certainly NOT friends. Today, I can count him as one of my good friends. When we grow up, we realize that left-wing is just not workable and just not equitable.

1) Considering that the US is Canada's major trading partner, it is important that the two countries co-operate. Having the US President make his first foreign visit to Canada was a nice tradition. Georgie flipped us the bird on this one.

2) People protested when Pres Chimpy came north because he should be in The Hague charged with war crimes and crimes against the english language.

Hahahahahah. Using this logic, Communism should have gone the way of The Shakers!

So EoE and Steve L, how come you are up at this time of night?
I had some dear friends visit and we had coffee at about 10:30 my time. Not great for the ZZZZZ's!!

Anyway back on topic, I am very concerned about this radical reaction from these "formal" demonstrators. It concerns me because in my lifetime, I have never heard the disrespect and rage that we are hearing today in this country.
Granted, blogging and comments at MSM sites are the new "letters to the Editor" but the violence in the comments is a new form of terrorism, imho.
I would not feel any different if it was a Liberal, Democrat, Republican or Conservative. They are the peoples' government.

I am getting a bit tired of these radicals in my country that I was born in, controlling the agenda of the country that invited them to live here. It is getting a bit much to even know when you can speak openly about your own thoughts. That makes me furious!

I don't understand what this means.

SQ, if you don't understand that shower comment you are very young or have never read history. But it did happen many years ago. And there were people who didn't believe it till much later when the corpses were found.
