The Peter Principle Candidates

Here is the official definition of the Peter Principal:

The Peter Principle is the principle that "In a Hierarchy Every Employee Tends to Rise to His Level of Incompetence."

This was first published in 1968, I had to read it in university, but the concept stuck with me, and it is still as true today as it was in 1968.

In the seventies, the feminists made a big push to get females into management positions, I had no problem with that, but what happened was that companies promoted females just to show they were pro-female. They promoted women who were not qualified and that's when the Peter Principle kicked in. They were promoted because they were female, not because they were competent. They set the feminist movement back because they were so bad at what they did, that no company wanted to take a chance of promoting another incompetent female for years.

Fast forward to today. Think about those people who have risen to their level of incompetence.

Dion, he did nothing as the environment Minister, and got promoted to leader of the Liberals. He was over his head as environment Minister and a disaster as leader of the opposition.

Paul Martin, was supposedly a very good finance Minister, but as a Prime Minister he was a joke. He had no clue what he should do because he was not a leader.

Layton, is a socialist who has reached his pinnacle of fame, imagine him as Prime Minister....Yikes!

Duceppe the separatist, tried to lead the Quebec government and even his own party didn't want him. Where can he go? Prime Minister? Not possible, so he has reached his level of incompetence, he is on a dead end road with nowhere to go but retirement.

Iggy, the unelected leader of the Liberals, a Harvard grad who has spent most of his life outside of Canada, comes back to save us, from ourselves. He agreed with GW Bush on Iraqi, and identifies more with Americans than Canadians. He may be smart but the Peter Principle kicks in because he has only been back in Canada for 3 years, and will never understand the west. A blue, oops red blood, intellectual who has no clue about Canada.

Prime Minister Harper, is respected world wide for his intellect, you will never hear this from our foaming at the mouth media, they are still mad at him because he wanted them to line up at a microphone instead of YELLING out their questions. Such babies. Reporters are a perfect example of Peter's Principle, they report on issues they have no clue about, and the balance sheets of their companies prove we aren't buying it. Advertising is down, readership is down and shares are down. The National Post has recently reported a profit.

Finally, when thinking about candidates for the Peter's Principle award, only one person comes to mind......Obama. I'm sure he is a good guy, and it's great that he is the first black President, but he is way over his head. The bloom is going to dry up and then the Americans are going to be stuck with a Peter Principle President. If he does a bad job, no black American will be elected for a long time because of Peter's Principle. Bring on Sarah Palin, she has strengths and has no yet reached her level of incompetence.

Feel free to nominate your favorite Peter's Principle incompetent.

In theory, the PP applies to everyone , right? But in your post the PMSH is exempt.

I think that boat has sailed, Hunter:

Politically, Harper is already running a credibility deficit, a PM elected on fiscal prudence and balanced budgets now plunging the country into a sea of red ink.

In the Commons, Harper no longer has Dion to kick around, nor a weak Liberal party to bully into submission on every vote.

Instead, Michael Ignatieff has the ability to be every bit Harper's equal, and is quickly evening the odds of the next election result.

All of which is understandably creating new challenges for Harper within his own party.

Conservatives were generally underwhelmed with the results of the last election, and put much of the blame on the PM and his advisers.

But nothing has damaged Harper's leadership more than the follies of last fall's fiscal update that almost made Dion prime minister of a coalition government with Jack Layton.

As one cabinet minister put it recently: "That whole mess started a lot of talk in the party about the PM's time being in decline."

Until then, Harper's leadership is about to be tested like never before, starting with a budget that may well be his last.

That's you lefties trying to discredit one of the most competent Prime Minister's we will ever have.

You would never vote for him, so will believe everything the lefty journalists say. Personally, I do not want him replaced, I like him.

Interesting premise. Since this blog boasts about it's factual credibility, could you provide some examples?

You are quoting Greg Weston as your proof???

Well now, that's just laughable.

As much as you and Mr. Weston would like Stephen Harper to be replaced, preferrably with someone who did not come from the "REFORM" roots, it ain't happen until Stephen Harper is good and ready to step down.

Heck, even your push polls can't seem to show that Canadians are ready to get rid of him.

It is just funny to watch you keep on trying though Myst....

That is those lefties over at The Toronto Sun...that notoriously left wing paper.

Alberta Girl, let me put this question to your adroit and critical mind. There are two parts to the question - how does it happen that PMSH is exempt from the so called Peter Principle? And in the context of Weston's remarks - how has kicking Dion around for the last two years garnered PMSH respect the world over for the great intellect Hunter claims he possesses.

Exactly! Glad you agree.

Examples of the PP are on the Newman show now.
How can that lib and dipper make a stmt that cdns don't support this or that, or want this or that.
Why can't they be honest and say,
our party doesn't want-------.
They have never asked me.
The majority of cdns did not vote for them but they have this dream that they did.
Just once I would like Newman to ask, how do you know that, are you getting mail, calls, text messages. Put them out there for us to see. Prove your stmts.
An election will tell us what cdns do and don't want, and who they trust.
He also had some guy on saying we want to replace PMSH. I wasn't asked.

The National Post is about to go bankrupt. The Aspers are having a hard time making the interest payments. Profit...not.
