I Predict ....A Massive Depression.

There you go, it's a fact. A depression is on the way and you are going to suffer. Mark my words, I know this economic stuff. Stagflation is just around the corner, one of the worse situations any economy can suffer from, high unemployment and high inflation.

Imagine you are unemployed and food prices skyrocket. You are screwed. Unless you have a veggie garden like I do. Even people in apartments can have fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, and beans, but few do. Why, because they rely on the government to solve all their problems.

I have a huge problem with the budget officer, Page. He comes out with reports before the finance department just to enhance his position. He undermines the government with no real facts, just predictions like mine. He is like the guy who cries wolf, when it is actually a sheep. He listens to Don Drummond, a confirmed Liberal supporter, who the media love to quote, but who knows nothing more of less than any other expert, like me!

OTTAWA -- Finance Minister Jim Flaherty has dismissed a prediction of deeper, longer-term deficits from Parliament's budget watchdog.

He rejected analysis from Kevin Page, the parliamentary budget officer, that major spending cuts or tax hikes will be the only way to get Canada out of the red within five years.

Past warnings from Page have proven accurate. But Flaherty says he's off-base this time, because the bleak prediction is based on unduly pessimistic economic-growth projections.

"He's wrong," Flaherty told journalists in a conference call from a G8 finance ministers' meeting in Lecce, Italy.

"Because he says growth rates likely will be slower than I had predicted. Now, if you make an assumption with respect to lower growth rates, then you get the results that he postulates.

"But anybody can do that."

Assume...I assume that the GM bailout will fail and that auto workers will lose their jobs and that southern Ontario will be taken over by the US, because they want our oil. Oh, wait...

If oil keeps above $60, and the bank rate stays below 1%, I predict massive profits for the federal government because of oil sands development. Did Page factor the oil sands into his calculations? I doubt it because he has no clue what is happening in the west.

The Toronto Dominion Bank now projects $167 billion in deficits over five years -- almost double what the government forecasts -- and expects a $19.4 billion deficit in 2013-14, the year Flaherty foresees a return to surplus.

The TD should hire better qualified experts, not politically motivated supposed experts. They are making a lot of people mad, and the bank is going to suffer for their bias. I predict massive withdrawals from TD because a bank should never get politically involved, like they have with Drummond. I hope all those billions for oil sands projects go to another bank, one that is not so politically aligned with the Liberals, maybe ATB, an Alberta bank. What happens in Alberta should stay in Alberta! We know how our taxpayers dollars got taken from us by the Liberals and given out to yet to be named Quebec Liberals, why support those who helped them steal our money.

I predict all of this as a Canadian citizen, not an expert on anything. I think my opinion is just as valid as any other Canadian citizen, I just don't get interviewed by CTV/CBC like Drummond, so I can bias all Canadians by my opinions.

I predict....a Conservative majority next election, and you can take that to the bank! HA!!

Hunter- How true. I just spent a week back in Ontario and couldn't find much doom and gloom even there. Outside of Windsor and Oshawa things are chugging along.

Ontarians really have no clue about what is happening out west. The pollsters have the Libs running neck and neck with the CPC here in BC. That is impossible and there will be no seats to be had if they call an early election. Cheers.

EPICFAIL!

May 2008 - Finance Minister Jim Flaherty says although Canada's real gross domestic product edged down in the first quarter of 2008, he doesn't think the economy will slip into a recession.

April 2009 -
"Relatively speaking this is a mild economic recession. We will come out of this strongly. We are able to withstand this," Flaherty added.

May 2009 - Finance Minister Jim Flaherty says the federal deficit will balloon to $50 billion this fiscal year, an increase of more than $16 billion from a January forecast.

It's believed to be the highest federal deficit ever.

Dim Jim has gone from predicting a surplus to the largest deficit in the history of Canada! Whereas Mr. Page (who you don't have a problem making disparaging remarks about) has been right all along. Conservatives they lie about everything.

"Mark my words, I known this economic stuff." hahahahahahahaha What's yer degree in Hunter?

Huntsy, you go girl - keep on nurturing your very own private sense of expertise.

Meanwhile, did you know that PMSH thinks the fiscal situation in the US is very worrisome? He said so on FOX!

Hahahaha!

"Past warnings from Page have proven accurate."

According to your logic, because Pages predictions have proven right in the past, they should not be relied upon for future predictions. And because Flaherty has been consistently wrong (not to say lying) we should listen to Dim Jim this time.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

you go girl!!!!!

I see the Bobbsey Twins are here today spreading their silliness.

Hunter - very true. What the media are reporting and what is actually happening is a disconnect. Yes things have levelled off, but it is still hard to find employees. People are still buying non-necessities, still going on vacations, still putting money away in RSP's

I still have lots of clients willing to pay me to help them - an my field is definitely a non-necessity.

So the media and the doom and gloom guys who are not in power (along with their supporters in the beauracracy (think Kevin Page - yeah I know he was "appointed" by Stephen Harper, but Stephen Harper doesn't dictate that his appointees have to be CPC supporters) are not being realistic with Canadians. Their constant whining and gloomy predictions are a detriment to the Canadian people who - while they feel like they are doing OK; are being cautious because they are being told the other shoe is about to drop.

BTW - I am beginning to think the Bobbsey Twins might actually be siamese twins 0r even triplets - they are all singing from the same hymn book (ooooooh - they probably won't like that "religious" reference)

Stereo, amid your mockery, you made a very valid point - about experts who get on TV and influence our opinions. You also made a valid point about every Canadian's POV being as valid as anybody else's POV.

Who determines who is an expert and who is not? Is Drummond really an expert? What about an expert whose opinion is the polar opposite of the opinion of Drummond? What about us, the average Canadians?

Tragically, the opinions of experts has taken over from our opinions. The media goes for experts and pretty much ignores what we Canadians have to say.

Political leaders crow on and on about what Canadians need and want but I doubt if any one of them has spoken personally to you or me.

Yes, Stereo - you brought up a point which I find very valid. As a Canadian citizen, that is my personal expert opinion.

See? Even us redneck, religious, conservative types are open to valid opinions no matter who puts them forth.

Wow, I even agree with SQ. You're so right, SQ. Imagine if we had a history professor at the helm. Shudder. It's too horrific to even think about it.

Anyone that thinks certain posters here are out to lunch, catch Terry! at Taylors.
If that is the thinking of liberal supporters, and their leaders we are in deeper trouble than I thought. There was a time, long long ago, when liberal was not considered a dirty word.

I am quite certain he appointed Page because he believed him to be competent and capable - and so far that has proven to be true.

But apparently, Harper's supporters believe it is wrong to "assume" a slower rate of growth, but it is OK to "predict" a faster one.

Maybe someone can tell me the difference between the two?

I can also state, for a fact, that a lot of Albertans are doing well and maxed their RRSP constributions in 2008, and are moving their money out of TD.
Jobs go unfilled, wages are good and people are spending.
I also think that a lot of job losses were excuses to get rid of non productive workers and get rid of a lot of the extras they were paying, like daily living allowances of 200.00, free travel back and forth from province to job. Now if those from the Atlantic area want to work in Fort Mac or other sites, they must live here or buy their own tickets.
Another smart move by companies was to send out the pink slips during the Christmas holidays, so they had to apply for EI, welfare, health care, food banks and other services in their own province, not at AB's expense.
Has there ever been a study on what effect layoffs in one province has on the others.
Sending thousands home/month meant lots of spending in their economy. Without it, fewer sales etc back home. A lot of that money was never spent in AB. so was no great loss to our economy.

I predict Iffy will, once again, climb down that hill.

And if he demands amendments to 'spending'(which he didn't in January), Iffy will have an even higher hill to walk down.

On QP today:
The Bloc wants to go, now!
Iffy's support is in such a concentrated area of Quebec, he would win few seats from the Bloc,
and apparently (says the expert on QP) the Bloc has lots of 'stuff' ready to attack Iffy's crediability. (oooh, big surprise that the Bloc is not about to hand Iffy Quebec)

The Cons are ready to go, and will not bend to any Iffy demands on EI. The position is 'this is Iffy's budget too, Parliament voted it in', they are resurrecting the coalition by forcing DIPPERS EI changes.

Do we perhaps have some of that old fashioned “projection” coming from the crackpots at the TD bank. Maybe it’s them who are in catastrophic “deficit”. We know from past experience that these corporations don’t go around bragging about being in the hole. It would explain why their manipulating Canadians in order to get the Adscammers back working as “cashiers” at the till. It all boils down to them needing taxpayer’s cash.
And the “You scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours” liberals are there to help them.

I have a question for Southern Quebec, mystereoso, martin and all the other libs and leftist who post here. Why does your type so blindly support the super rich limousine liberals who own and control “your” side of the political spectrum? Do you think that all these corporations and people like Paul Martin, Soros, Buffet, etc…etc… etc… can never have enough money? Do you presume that they’re motivated by the same things you are? Can’t you see that it’s all about their self interest? Why do you throw your support to them, rather than everyday typical Canadian’s? Why can’t you see that you’re being used by them, that you’re seen as a useful idiot to their greed and lust for power?
You guys really need to think about these things. Seriously.

I do have a great bunch of clients. And those that have taken my advise like, when to top up RRSPs, GICs, get out of stocks, split investments, rental income and so many other things, are doing very well. I am now doing their kids, and in one case a g/childs. Even when they move they come back, so SK, BC, are loyal.
TD should hire me. LOL.

Oh wilson. Wilson, wilson, wilson.

Ignatieff does not have to climb down any hill. He's in the driver's seat.

After all, he is the one leading in all the national polls.

If he decides not to force an election it is because he believes waiting will be more advantageous for the LPC. Harper is defeating himself - maybe he needs to be given more time to do so.

But you keep clinging to that hope.

Let's recap how Iffy is in the drivers seat Gayle:

Iffy passes the Conservative budget, no amendments, asks for nothing except reports that were already written into the budget by the Government.

Iffy caves to Danny six, allows them defy him.

Iffy draws a line in the sand,
will NOT support the Governments $3B emergency fund unless every project is approved by him,
that's it, that's Iffy's bottom line.
PMSH says, no, give me the $3B, will not list of projects.
Iffy says...ok.

Iffy draws a line in the sand, forms coalition with Dippers and Bloc,
will bring down the Government unless the EI 360 is legislated NOW.
Right now, or else, that's Iffy's bottom line.
PMSH says (repeatedly) no, no changes to EI, too expensive.
Iffy says....
stay tuned for Monday photo op at 11 am, where Iffy flexes his muscles, curls up his top lip and says........

Gayle said...

Ignatieff is leading in the polls, and it is widely believed that should there be an election now he would win.

THAT puts him in the drivers' seat. Whether or not you believe the polls, that will be what people hear and see, so it is less likely he will be perceived as weak if he fails to force an election.

Not to mention the fact that cons everywhere are wailing and crying about Ignatieff being "opportunistic", so it will be kind of hard for them to start calling him weak if he does not go for it. Most people will probably accept that he did not want a summer election in order to spare the rest of us (and the media, who REALLY do not want a summer election).

So, in my opinion, whatever Ignatieff choses it will not hurt the LPC.

maryT said...

Lots of polls out there, and even those that show libs leading in Que and maybe Ont, they are not making progress in the west.
And many of those polls pick PMSH to be the better PM and to handle the economy than Iggy.
Getting more liberals to answer a poll in an already liberal riding just means more will get out for the 1.98/vote, instead of making a cash donation to the party.
I want a riding by riding poll.
Maybe commentators could let us know about their riding. I have no doubt Rick will be re-elected in mine, I think there was about a 20,000 vote margin.

maryT said...

It will be difficult but we should not argue with the trolls if there is an election. They will just try to keep us off topic. Best way to handle them is just give them facts and links to Harpers achievements. Bet they have never read them, but do benefit from them. How many of them willingly send 2% of every purchase to the govt to make up the gst cut, how many return their 100.00/month for kids under six, and how many did not take advantage of all the tax cuts and extra deductions on their tax return this year. That's what I thought, not one of them. But they say PMSH has done nothing.

Gayle said...

"I have no doubt Rick will be re-elected in mine, I think there was about a 20,000 vote margin."

You live in Alberta, right? The only CPC riding at risk here is Laurie Hawn's, and even that is not much of a risk.

I think you can rest assured that the LPC are not factoring winning seats in Alberta into their calculations.

Gayle's cheerleading of Iggy reminds me of the Monty Python's 'Dead Parrot Sketch' where Gayle is the shopkeeper proclaiming the parrot (Iggy) isn't actually dead, he's 'just resting'.

Actually, I think the parrot should be Dion. At the end of the sketch the shopkeeper offers the customer a slug in place of the parrot. The customer (those who vote liberal) asks if the slug can talk to which the shopkeeper says yes and the sale is made. Kind of like Iggy's coronation, after the embarrasment Dion brought upon the LPC (and all of Canada) the librano delegates would take anyone, after all, time's a waistin' when you've got a gravy train to catch.

Of course now I'm sure Gayle wants me to 'prove it'

...sigh.
