Let us not forget that Israel withdrew from Gaza, with great pain to their people, and expected the rockets to stop. Instead they stopped bombing Israel settlements in Gaza and started bombing Israel. The withdrawal solved nothing.
So much pain from both sides. My question is what has Hamas done to make their peoples lives better? What do they offer the average Palestinian except more pain and death. They spend all their money on rockets not food. What have they done to make Gaza productive?
Just as we came to realize during the first intifada that the occupation was untenable, so we have now come to realize that peace is impossible with Palestinian leaders for whom reconciliation is a one-way process. … So long as Gaza refuses to heal itself, Israelis will rightly suspect that the Palestinian goal remains Israel's destruction. Not even a full withdrawal from the West Bank, they fear, will end the war, any more than the pullout from Gaza stopped the rockets. Israel's crime isn't occupying but existing.
The hate:
excellent video
it is great that the Jews are getting kicked out of their homes even before their next house is built... really cool
Yusaf , Ramallah (08.19.05)
Jewish Gaza capital 'Hamas terror camp'
Senior Hamas sources say group turned former Gaza settlement Neve Dekalim into ‘military training camp for martyrs,’ boast several Qassam rockets fired from former Jewish capital into nearby Israeli Negev towns
So the greenhouses of Neve Dekalim have been turned into a bomb building facility. Everything I read convinces me that Islam builds nothing but hate.
"Israel's crime isn't occupying but existing"...that is the heart of the matter.

It is unfortunate that faith in God is turned, by some who are evil and not at all God-revering, into an instrument of hate and destruction. Centuries ago, my own faith (Christianity)wreaked havoc on other peoples through a misguided interpretation of Christ's exhortation to spread the good news. The Catholic church did a great deal of harm in Quebec and to native children.
I oppose missionary work given the history of bringing disease to indigenous peoples and to the pillage and theft of their land. I don't believe that, as people of faith, we have the right to go to other countries and try to convert; as honourable as the intentions may be. Some Islamic extremists have hijacked what is basically a peaceful religion and turned it into a killing machine.
When modern-day Israel was created (or restored as the case may be according to some personal beliefs), the Palestinians were basically booted from their homeland by outside parties (League of Nations) who had no business interfering. It could have been done differently. The conflict began the moment that modern Israel was created.
Israel is not completely innocent - it is both a defensive and offensive country and Israel has also inflicted hardship on Palestine and its people. Unfortunately, other nations continue to interfere and thus the problem will not go away.
Muslims have emigrated all over the world and we have allowed them to force their ways on our pre-existing culture in the name of multi-culturalism. Well, I have news for those folks - we already were a multi-cultural nation and we certainly don't need a group of immigrants imposing their ways on us. The way I see it, as did my grandparents, they came here by choice and it is incumbent upon them to adapt and not change our culture so deliberately. Culture is dynamic and changes continually, if left alone to change naturally.
Islam, basically a religion of peace, has been twisted into a religion of hate and destruction. And we are allowing it to happen.
I don't blame Israel for the current action - they did pull out and Hamas took the opportunity to start a war all over again. Palestinian people are suffering more under Hamas then under the Israelis. Between the Taliban and Hamas, neither Arab countries nor Israel will know peace and comfort.
Hit the reset button, I see no other way to ened this conflict that has gone on for generations.
Sean, you are too right. I agree totally. The interference from other countries has exacerbated the situation beyond all reason. The greed for oil affects many a decision on the part of external forces and thus the conflict continues. If huge quantities of oil were discovered in Israel, you'd sure see a change in attitude.
Golda Meir once quipped that Moses wandered the desert for 40 years and chose the one place in the Holy Land without oil. She may have looked like a grandmother but she was sharp as a tack.
What gets me about the corruption of Islam into a religion of hate and oppression is that the initial Islam was so different than it is practices in some of the Islamic countries. In Saudi, women are forbidden to drive. In Afghanistan, the Taliban made women's lives a living hell. In Iran, women are constantly in danger. Originally, Islam gave women equal rights which were unheard of back then. Mohammed, himself, married (first wife) a business woman. Somewhere along the way, men took Islam and corrupted it and, unfortunately, they seem to be gaining power in the Arab world. I shudder every time I see a woman with her hair or whole head covered because, to me, it is a form of oppression of women. If a woman freely chooses to cover herself, fine. No problem with that. But if she has no choice - well, I have a problem with that.
I also bristle when I read about Muslim women who refuse to uncover their faces for a driver's license or to vote. Sorry - this is Canada and these are our rules. It pisses me off when accommodations are made. Try going to Saudi and walking around with no covering and see how accommodating the country is. Not at all.
Oh, to see what a modern Muslim woman is trying to achieve, go to YouTube and look for Queen Rania of Jordan. This lady is amazing. She is very honest about the Muslim world and she is trying to bring them into equilibrium. She is an incredible lady and, if I might be so bold as to say, extremely beautiful.
Not sure if you understand what I meant by that. The button I was talking about can only be pressed by the US president. Canada has no nukes.
