The Fire In Your Gut!

Meeting PM Harper today, made a huge impression on me. You see, lately, I’ve been blogging, but without “heart”. There has been no fire in my gut. Here is my journey that led to my actually meeting the Prime Minister of Canada.

I have always been a Conservative voter, maybe it’s the air out here in Alberta, or maybe it’s how you are raised to believe in yourself and your abilities. So all I ever did was go and vote for whichever Conservative was running either provincially or federally. I thought that was the extent of my duty as a Canadian.

When Mulroney crashed and burned, I found the Reform Party. I voted for the various versions that ensued; it didn’t bother me that they were not in power, because they represented my views better than any other party out there. All I did was vote, I never engaged.

Then Adscam hit, and I woke up. I realized that my inattention had allowed the Liberals to take power, and keep it even though they proved to be corrupt. The backroom boys were running my beloved Canada. I didn’t like it, not one little bit. That’s when I got politically involved. I slept through the 2004 election. Who was Stephen Harper? I didn’t know, except I remembered some blonde bimbo wanting to be the Conservative party leader, and that this Stephen Harper had beat her. Thank goodness.

The Liberal Adscam scandal put the fire into my gut. I emailed my MP, James Rajotte, and he promptly invited me to his volunteer appreciation BBQ. The rest is history. I became engaged, active and now I do more than just vote for a party, I actively participate in the Conservative party. My reward was meeting the Prime Minister of Canada today.

It put the fire back into my gut.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper is an exceptional individual under tremendous pressure in a minority government. He is up against the Liberals, NDP and Bloc, all left leaning parties who tried to band together to bring his freshly elected government down, against the will of Canadians. He has to put up with a left leaning, aggressive media, and he also has to try to keep Conservatives united. Only an outstanding individual could accomplish that and still run a country. Let me repeat that for all the dissatisfied conservatives….RUN A COUNTRY!

In 2006, I door knocked in the cold at least 10 times to get the Conservatives elected into government. In the last election, I door knocked once, then made excuses. There was no fire in my gut.

Conservatives like me need to wake up. The Liberals crave power; they will lie, cheat and steal to get it back. We cannot be smug thinking the Conservatives will get re-elected. Most importantly we need to get that old Reform fire back in our guts.

An exceptional man is running our country. We see him constantly derided by the press and the opposition. I get lefty trolls on my site daily, sneering and deriding our Prime Minister or anything Conservative. They personally attack me, and commenter’s on my blog. We are saturated by lefty propaganda, daily. They feed it to us morning, noon and night. I am sick of it.

The world respects our Prime Minister, our troops are finally respected instead of sneered at because of this PM, and yet Canadians mindlessly march towards socialism, thinking pensions (CAW) should be guaranteed by governments, and that jobs should be for life.

We have forgotten what we stand for….Canada. We need to get that fire back in our guts.

Hunter, get a system to rid yourself of the vermin that takes over your site.
You will then be able to enjoy this day more fully.
They are garbage and have absolutely nothing substantive to offer.
I suppose there are a few that find them entertaining but oh well, send them to an arcade.

This is a fantastic day for you, Horray!

Hunter, your story is a lot like mine in terms of awakening political awareness.

I plan to help all I can in the next election. I agree with you that the threat of the Coalition was a huge wake-up call for me too in terms of shaking off complacency.

And I think as bloggers we will need to remind Canadians just how fragile our democracy is.

You must remember that the Liberal Party of Canada held power for 70 years during the 20th century and for 6 years of the first decade of the next.

The LPC is the most successful political party in the democratic world. Furthermore, it is the only party still in existence from confederation.

We lost the last 2 elections. I promise you, we will win the next. Bet on it.

Martin, have you just admitted that all the liberal PMs during those 70 years were crooks, and stole from the ROC to keep Quebec happy.

In today's news, we are reminded how Liberals do business:

''Vancouver lawyer Michael Galambos claims under oath that former Liberal justice minister Martin Cauchon offered him federal prosecution contracts
in exchange for support of ex-prime minister Paul Martin at a fundraising dinner''

http://www.vancouversun.com/news/justice+minister+offered+contracts/1484444/story.html

And we are also reminded how Liberals say one thing, and once elected, do another.
Check out todays article, Dippers could have written these Liberal resoultions, (Kyoto back on the agenda) and maybe they did.

Carbon tax resurfaces in Liberal policy resolutions

Poor Iffy,
he tried soooooo hard to woo BlueGrits back to the LPC,
with the resolutions proposed by the Quebec wing (major suck up for Quebec votes) they will run as fast as they can to the CPC.

The next election will be fought on vision,
higher taxes union run nanny state with libDippers,
or a real Conservative agenda.

From now on evertime we hear a lawyer, or other professional coming out to praise MEME, we will ask, and what where you promised to be a supporter and donor, when they get back to power. When lib judges make decisions supporting criminals instead of victims, we will ask, and what did that judgeship cost you donations. Same for those making decisions re refugees, what did you pay for your appointment. Liberals can be bought, greed is their platform.

Right. Because only Albertans grow up like that.

Sheesh...the arrogance. Especially coming from a mediocrity like you.

Okay Hunter, explain this to me. What do you think makes a Conservative a Conservative and how are Harper et al living up to that standard?

You talk about how he's running the country. Personally I thought Conservatives believed that government should be running less of the country, after 3 years Harper is running more of it.

On your sidebar you talk about families. How has Harper given us more control over our own families?

As far as I'm concerned just not calling yourself a Liberal while acting like one seems good enough for a number of Conservative supporters and I would like to know why that is?

If you don't like it here Bi-guy, you know where the door is.

I don't know why the moonbat trolls seem to keep flocking here only to pee on the floor then bellyache they don't like Hunter's choice of flooring.

Whazzup, lib-blogs a little too boring? Not enough room for you over at Kos or Rabble?

Just finished watching The 10 Commandments, for the umpteenth time. It was made 50 years ago, and is still a very moving message.
Happy Easter to all, and we will of course be attending Mass tomorrow, even tho our Church was broken into last night and vandalized. Broken doors, things strewn around, broken cabinet doors, but they did not damage the Altar or the Baptismal Font. Must have been the sight of Jesus on the Cross that kept them out.
Most of the damage has been temporatily fixed.

Francisco, you forget that this is a minority government and that the lefties rule the Commons.

On your sidebar you talk about families. How has Harper given us more control over our own families?

How about the $100 per child for parents to decide how to care for their children? There are also sports rebates and bus rebates. One that helped us was the $1000 per child (up to age 18) tax credit that no one seems to mention, but we sure noticed it last year when we filed our tax returns last year.

As far as I'm concerned just not calling yourself a Liberal while acting like one seems good enough for a number of Conservative supporters and I would like to know why that is?

Acting like a liberal? You have no understanding of what a conservative is, it's not just a vote for a political party, it's a way of thinking. It's the way you live your life, not how you vote. It's about core values, and as you pointed out, it's about family.

If I am concerned about raising my family, why would I vote for the liberals, they want to legalize marijuana, prostitution and think swingers clubs that allow 16 year old children to join in the fun are okay? They march with Hezbollah supporters, they often appear at Tamil Tiger functions, and they have no policies, except the love of a carbon tax, which would cripple our economy in a recession.

The Conservatives might not be perfect, but they didn't steal 40 million from taxpayers and send it to undisclosed Quebec MP's from the Liberal party.

MaryT - I have the DVD version with a bonus DVD of the first silent version - those silent pictures were pretty amazing.

On one of my mother's visits here, we watched it together and she commented on how Charlton Heston was such a wonderful actor. I burst out laughing and told my mom that I was on to her. In every one of his movies that I ever watched, he was shirtless and usually wearing shorts or something akin to them.

She blushed when I pointed that out to her. LOL. But, as she said to me once: "you didn't invent it, you know". Scandalous. LOLOLOL.

The minority government excuse holds about as much water as a hula hoop. The Lefties were not in charge, that's a myth to help partisans sleep better at night.

Until very recently the Lib's were in no shape to fight a decent election. Between the limp wrist-ed Dion as leader and their party finances they had to sit on their hands vote after vote. Harper could have moved a modest conservative agenda forward, he choose not to. My biggest disappointment with him is not that he didn't do everything, it’s that not only did he do nothing he moved us further in the wrong direction.

Case in point, you talk about the extra welfare payments for those with kids (I know , I know, you call it rebates and such but really you’re talking about special privileges). As far as I'm concerned real Conservatives aren't looking for subsidies or special treatment for their own pet causes, they’re looking to keep more of their own money in the first place.

If the only problem with having a Liberal government is that they might not subsidize the right things that’s not good enough. If it’s a choice between more institutionalized daycare and sending parents cheques in the mail for having kids, then the whole debate is over whose version of central planning is better. And the debate over whether there should be central government planning involved with child care is over, the Socialists won and you can thank the Conservatives for waving the white flag on that one.

The biggest threat to families in Canada comes from divorce and separation, which affects almost half of the children in Canada at some point in their lives. Specifically, from how our Liberal courts routinely mishandle custody disputes upon separation. Judges have a fulsome disrespect for the value of fatherhood. That's why, in the vast majority of cases that come before them, they automatically relegate fathers to the status of visitors in their children's lives. They typically grant children access to their fathers every other weekend, and staunchly refuse to enforce even that trifling amount of contact when mothers decide even that’s too much. Also, if mothers wish to relocate with the children to an inconvenient distance, judges eagerly oblige.

What has Prime Minister Harper proposed to do about this atrocious state of affairs? Absolutely nothing! Why ? Because the Liberals wouldn’t like him messing with the status quo. For eleven years, the Parliamentary report "For the Sake of the Child," which advocates a legal presumption of equal shared parenting after separation, has sat in the gorgeous Parliamentary Library collecting dust. Anyone who had hoped a Conservative government might pick it up and use it to promote a family-friendly agenda has been sadly disappointed.

But, you go right on crowing about your $1000 special tax credit for sports and buses as a real accomplishment, you can throw the $25 million for snowmobile trials in there while you’re at it. And pretending that the Liberals would legalize marijuana and prostitution (they’ve had plenty of chances over the past 50 years, funny how they’ve never gotten around to doing it).

BTW the Harper/Obama cap and trade carbon plan will be just as deadly to our economy as the Liberal carbon tax. And the Harper/Obama stimulus plan will work about as well as Bob Rae’s did when he was premier i.e it will just make things worse, with our kids and grandkids picking up the tab.

At this point, it doesn’t matter if you vote Liberal or Tory or don’t vote at all. Nothing is going to change. I noticed Hunter that you talked about your ‘core’ values without really defining them. I think if you took the time to do so and took an honest look at what the conservatives have done policy wise you’ll see that they’ve done nothing of substance in any of those areas in the last three years.

For me fiscal Conservatism is front and centre. Smaller government, lower taxes, less regulation, less government in my life. After three years of Conservatives we've got bigger government, more regulations, more beaurecrats poking their noses in our business, and by the time all this deficit spending/stimulus is done we're going to be seeing much higher tax's.

Sorry, but this is a track record that I can not see myself rewarding. It would have been better if they had done nothing, but no, they have moved in the opposite direction, and with the world economy in the state its in, they've done so at the worst possible time.

It's bad enough that they're doing the wrong things let alone at the wrong time.
