Protests That Would Work!

The TEA parties worked because it was the average American protesting, not against a political party, but against a policy they don't like, and one that hits them in the pocket book.

Most protests are lefty special interest groups that the mainstream voters could care less about, and mainly serve to promote lefty ideals, not necessarily what the average taxpayer cares about. The average person has tuned these protests out. Who cares anymore? Polar bears protesting global warming, gay parades, protests for mandatory daycare, and feminist pro-abortion marches, all leave the average Canadian, cold.

If you want to successfully protest, make sure hits home with the silent majority, and is easy for everyone to participate in, without having to go out and march in the streets. Try these two protests.

Bank fees - pick one day for everyone to stop using their credit and debit cards. If you need money, actually go into the bank to get it. Using an ATM machine is a big no no. Can you imagine how our banking system would react? It's not illegal to not use your debit card, nor is it illegal to walk into a branch of your bank and ask for the cash from your account. Every Canadian could participate without having to take time off work.

Afghanistan Rape Law - All women could show their support for the Afghanistan women by staying at home for one day. Think about your work place, imagine no women there for a day. HA! Thought so, half the work force is female, why can't they go on strike for a day? No female flight attendants, dental assistants, cashiers, teachers, daycare workers, lawyers, engineers, it would be catastrophic. If women want to go outside, they would have to call their husbands home from work to accompany them, and the company would have to let them go. Wouldn't that be way more effective than marching down streets blocking traffic and ticking people off?

One day, that is all it would take, and the silent majority would make it's point.

If you are going to protest, make sure you are appealing to the average Canadian, not just your special narrow interest.

Meh.

Average plus average equals average.

Appeals to the average can only result - well ... in guess what? More average!

Your call to protest with its special emphasis on the average has about as much appeal as a trip in the car to Walmart.

There is no such thing as an average Canadian, Huntsy; that's a big mistake in the Con rhetoric. Not smart. Average is not the elixir of life.

The nation is called Canada - not Averageland.

Jesus bids us shine.

Mystee, the word is Feh! :)

Mandatory daycare? I must have missed that protest.

Bank fees. Try going to a teller, see how much it costs.

You didn't post my rebuttal to Mr. Kursk. emmmm...

How do you figure the Tea Party protests worked? They were poorly attended and riddled with undertones of bigotry.

At around 300,000 protestors in total spread over hundreds ( 800 ) of different sites across the U.S., the event was a non-starter.It was attneded mainly by disenchanted conservatives and liberterians.

The largest single turn out was about 20,000 while many others only had a dozen or so.

Less than 0.1% ( one/tenth of a percent )of the population were involved. Pretty fringe when contrasted to the massive demonstrations against the Bush administration.

No big whoop, and Obama is still president.

'How do you figure the Tea Party protests worked?'

Worked?
Did they get media attention? Yes.

Larry King (with a laugh) asked Donald Trump if he was out protesting with the tea party.
King didn't laugh after Trump said,
no, but they have a point,
this country is pissing away (his exact words) trillions of taxpayer money. And he went on and on.
Do Americans listen to Trump!

The unions and Dion brought out the largest numbers in protest over the coalition of losers seizing government.
But 63% of severely average Canadians polled were outraged, and Iffy backed down.

Most average Canadians don't have the time nor desire to protest.
Doesn't mean they have no opinion, yah just have to ask.

Martin said...

Wilson, the average American voter offered their opinion last fall. Remember that?

As far as the average Canadian goes, contrary to the belief of conservatives like yourself, well, let's see..

The average Canadian is an urban dweller and lives somewhere between Quebec City and Windsor ( over 65% of the population ). They traditionally DO NOT vote conservative. The average Canadian elected 2 minority governemnts to punish for ADSCAM and the poor choice of Dion as leader.

Next time, they will return home and elect a liberal government.AS you know, average Canandians have done this for most of our history.

mystereeso and Southern Quebec, do you two realize how idiotic you look by posting those blubbering comments. Are you two still in school? Junior high perhaps! Your buddy Martin is at least trying to make a coherent point, even though it’s wrong.

The Tea Parties were a excellent start, no doubt about it. The lying media tried everything they could to ignore these protests until they couldn’t. Then their coverage went into full frontal “Class” hatred on those who don’t buy into the Left-Lib supremacist ideology.

The tea parties were "invented" by Faux News. Heeelllloooo....

Wrong again Martin.
You don’t speak for the people of “Quebec City To Windsor”.
You can talk “History” all you want, it doesn’t make a difference one way or another. It’s the “here and now” that matters. You did mention what a poor choice Dion was, well in the future you’ll be saying the same thing about your Yankee leader. I say that with total certainty. When the Conservatives start their carpet bombing ad campaign on your Yankee carpet bagging goof , he’s going to be looking like Wil E Coyote does after he’s had another run in with the Roadrunner.
I’ll end with my own History Lesson, and it won’t be a “made up” one.
It starts way back in the olden days. There was a fellow with the same name as you. ( Hey !! Your name isn’t Paul is it ?) Legend has it that this Martin fellow easily won the Liberal Party leadership and become the Prime Minister of all Canada. All the “know it all” members of the “Smart Set” all proclaimed that their hero Paul Martin was going to win the largest majority in Canadian History!!!
Well Martin, I think you know the rest of the story. And history will be repeating itself soon.

Well Mysty-roo, my guess is that you too believe in the "average temperature increase" that is the precursor to "global warming".

"Average plus average equals average."

"Your call to protest with its special emphasis on the average has about as much appeal as a trip in the car to Walmart."

Is there an average American or Canadian - sorry but NOPE? Were there 250,000 people involved in the Tea Parties - YUP? And do you shop at Walmart? Don't Care.

Back to your basement!!

Wouldn't that be way more effective than marching down streets blocking traffic and ticking people off?Well, get to work organising it then. Don't just sit there in front of your monitor, shrieking and shrieking...

You embarrass Canada.

Southern Quebec mentioned it, Hunter, but I thought it was worth mentioning again: how on earth do you expect to reduce your bank fees by going to a teller? Tellers, in the Big 5, charge more for a transaction fee than the ATM.

You are, perhaps, referring to the $1.50 fee applying to the use of ATMs belonging to banks other than your own. My reply to this is "plan ahead, moron". I haven't used a bank machine other than those which belong to my bank of choice in two years.

Oh, and I have a no-fee bank account. I haven't been charged a dime in those two years, and I won't, provided my balance stays above $1000. How's that for a protest?

West Coast Teddi said...

Well well Artsfelt Drudge ... I have a fixed fee so by going to the bank teller "it costs the bank more in EXPENSES." Revenue STAYS the SAME so the SHAREHOLDERS don't EARN as much and THEY get angry so they ask "what the .." and the BANK PRESIDENT says "well we have seen this HUGE increase in traffic at the branch and we couldn't PAY FOR IT."

Back to Basement ... earn your little interest on your $1000 ... cost in cost out ... carry on

Lying media is only a useful description if you catch the media lying. The only lying done that day was by the Media outlet that organised the "spontaneous" gatherings.
See Fox's Cavuto lie about attendance figures. http://www.dailykostv.com/w/001168/
Lying is not the same as when someone disagrees with you, that's called conversation.

against a policy they don't like, and one that hits them in the pocket book.So the Tea Parties were attended only by the richest 4% of the population? They're the only ones being hit "in the pocket book"; for everyone else, taxes are going down.

In fact, I understand that under Obama's plan, taxes are lower than they were under Reagan.

Can you explain what policy you're talking about?

There you go again, M@, showing up here with facts and everything. Don't you know reality has a nasty liberal bias?

Oh, no, my comment will have a link to my blog. I guess that means it has to be deleted.

Poor Hunter -- ever the delicate wallflower.

What are you talking about Harebell? Did I mention anything about how many people attended these protests? The answer is no. So why are you trying to change the subject. I don't know who Cavuto is, because I watch very little TV. And what do you mean "spontaneous gatherings” were organized by Fox network. Talk about these Tea Parties has been all over the internet for weeks. I visit some US blogs like Instapundit and Pajama Media. That’s how I was made aware of these protests. If some of the Fox people were giving these planned protests some publicity, somehow in your mind this makes them organizers? I know what your problem is. You’ve been brain washed by letting all the Kooks over at DailyKos do your thinking for you. You need to give your head a shake.
Many of these people protesting are as disgusted with the Republicans as much as they are with Comrade Zero and the Democrats.

Now you M@
So the US government is borrowing trillions of dollars to give away to “who knows what”. And you think somehow that 96% of the people aren’t ever going to pay for it. Is that what your saying M@? Can you really be fooled that easily?
Everyone is going to pay for this madness. Some with their job, some with their home, some with their wealth and everyone with their taxes. It doesn’t matter what lies these people tell. Money doesn’t grow on trees. Try using your god given common sense.

The Tea Parties, on April 15th, the day taxes must be filed in the USA, was well attended, and more than 300,000 turned out across the land. It was mainly spontaneous, and next time it will be much bigger. Noticed a lot of the signs, like, blacks against Obama, carried by a black man. No violence, carbqus, broken windows or vandalism. Notice CNN has pulled the clip of that women who lost her mind doing an interview, from u-tube. Rumor has it she is on vacation. The msms attempt to turn this into a sexual event has backfired on all of them, including Anderson Cooper. It appears only the leftists and terrorist supporters can carry signs, wear masks, burn someone in effigy, and get great support from the media. Oh, and a democratic congressman was caught saying that taxing the rich was the right thing to do, and it should be at 90%. I think cdns are protesting, very quietly, with their wallets and remote controls. The protests against the coalition proved that we might sit back and complain, when our way of life is threatened, watch out.
I would like to see the police get out there with fire hoses, tasers and rubber bullets and send those tamil terrorist supporters back to where they come from. What the heck do they think our govt can do. I wonder how many of them are unemployed and being paid to be there.

Blame Crash gets all panty-tuggy with umbrage:

"If some of the Fox people were giving these planned protests some publicity, somehow in your mind this makes them organizers?"

Um ... no, BC, the fact that they actually labelled those tax day tea parties as a Fox News Channel event makes them organizers:

"Fox News again declares ownership with label "FNC Tax Day Tea Parties"

Summary: For at least the second time in three days, Fox News aired on-screen text describing "tea party" protests that Fox News hosts will be attending as "FNC Tax Day Tea Parties." Fox News has often described the protests as a response to President Obama's fiscal policies.
"

Ah, but there I go again, getting all facty and everything. It's a bad habit of mine, that obsession with reality. I'm guessing Hunter wouldn't understand.

So the US government is borrowing trillions of dollars to give away to “who knows what”. Are you referring to the $700B given away under Bush with no oversight and no strings attached? I'm not sure I remember which protests accompanied that one.

And you think somehow that 96% of the people aren’t ever going to pay for it.So this teabagging stuff is all about how people aren't being taxed enough? Funny, that's not what it sounded like when I heard them yelling on the teevee. It sounded like they were saying that they were "taxed enough already" and such.

Or could it be -- jus' spitballin' here, guys, don't go crazy now -- that this whole "populist movement" thing is just a bunch of bull that anyone on the right can tack their own personal issues to without having to worry about coherence or consistency or hypocrisy?

Try using your god given common sense.Likewise, I'm sure.

"

In fact, as I read it, BC, that's not what M@ was saying at all. But I'll understand it if you decided to misrepresent entirely what he said because that makes his argument easier to refute. You know -- refuting stuff he didn't actually say. I understand that can save just buckets of time.

Would anyone else like to take a crack at understanding what M@ actually wrote? No, really, the entertainment value might be spectacular.

Truly CC , is that all you got? That flimsy reply about Fox? So you choose to ignore my point that many people, if not most, were made aware of these protests by reading many of the Blogs and other online sources. And then you offer up “Media Matters” as your proof that Fox was behind it all. Is that the same Media Matters that is a hard left propaganda front for a bunch of super rich limousine socialists? The answer is Yes.
Way to support the upper classes CC!! You’re a real good pooch! Poodle perhaps??

It’s not surprising that you didn’t take me up on my reply to your chimp M@. Despite you giving him a nice little pat on the head for coming here and informing us about the “facts”. Well, the “made up” ones anyways. So, I’ll put the same question to you CC.

“So the US government is borrowing trillions of dollars to give away to “who knows what”. And you think somehow that 96% of the people aren’t ever going to pay for it. Is that what your saying CC? Can you really be fooled that easily?

I know you won’t answer this question CC with anything but mindless guff. You’re too good of a left wing goose steeping follower to actually think for yourself.

Now, your schlock about ,

“Ah, but there I go again, getting all facty and everything. It's a bad habit of mine, that obsession with reality.”

It’s pretty obvious why you and your fellow chimps use this disingenuous line. It’s the same reason that a used car dealership call themselves “ Honest Joe’s Used Cars”
It’s because their not honest, and you CC, are definitely not factual or reality based.
You do have an obsession, but it’s not a good one. I’d get it checked out if I was you. And be sure to get your butt scratching, finger sniffing chimps to get checked out too.
