Taxes And Separation....

It only makes financial sense....My husband and I could have gotten refunds on our income tax of over $6000 it we did separate! Instead we paid even more to the government, but at least our taxes are now filed. We need a total overhaul of our tax system when it encourages couples to separate instead of getting married and raising a family.

Why do they insist that you file your returns separately when they calculate your taxes as a couple? I've even heard of a bunch of university guys living together that have had to sign a declaration that they are not romantically involved! Nutty.

No wonder the Americans were holding tea parties! For a sickening look into the lefty mind, watch this video:

I have never heard of Garofalo but if anyone is racist, she clearly is. She is steeped in leftist propaganda, and seriously needs some mental health intervention.

Interesting that the host let her spew like that without interruption. Who owns MSNBC? Well it appears that would be GE, and at their latest shareholders meeting they got an earful. If you have any GE shares it appears that holding or even buying more might be a good idea. You see cap and trade will be a huge money maker for this company. It's easy to see why they might be very pro-Obama as he supports the cap and trade idea.

"Now, most CEOs would have stopped NBC's corruption a long time ago, but Immelt may be looking for a major payoff," O'Reilly said. "According to reporting by the Washington Examiner, GE is heavily lobbying the Obama administration for bailout money. The company is also pushing for the proposed cap-and-trade program. Apparently GE has set up a joint venture it hopes would manage billions of dollars in cap-and-trade transactions should that corporate carbon tax pass Congress."

NBC has been actively promoting green issues and this revelation by O'Reilly happens to fall during the NBC Universal networks "Green is Universal" week.

"Now think about this ladies and gentlemen - a failing corporation, General Electric might reap billions of dollars if the Feds OK the carbon deal," O'Reilly said. "By the way, GE is already getting taxpayer bailout money for its financial unit. So it's not a stretch to assume Immelt would want to help President Obama as much as possible."

According to O'Reilly, the level of corruption is so big, it stands to make Watergate look small.

"This is obviously a major story - when a powerful corporation, which controls a major part of the American media, may be using its power and the airwaves to influence politics, in order to make money from government contracts," O'Reilly said. "That kind of corruption would make Watergate look small. We hope it is not true."

I can't get the fox news video to embed, try here, go to Fired Up.

This is old news, see this article from 2008.

The General Electric Unit Sale: Obama’s Energy Plan to the Rescue?

In that fox video was a clip about Barney Frank being uninvited to speak at a Washington university function.....hummm.... would that be the same function that Amero-Iggy went too?? I'm not sure, but Iggy is supposed to be meeting with Barney Frank. Is he really that politically tone deaf?

How would that be possible? Could you please be specific...

Probably by each claiming a dependant for the equivalent to spouse deduction. And, only one income would be used to calculate the gst refund, plus the CTC.

Living in sin = married for tax purposes

Gee that's funny, I thought the Harper government was supposed to be 'family' friendly. After three years in power they've done nothing to change this tax situation and at least level the playing field.

Oh, but that's right, they're in a minority so even thought they could use a non-confidence motion and up until the last couple of months the Liberals couldn't afford another election there is no way they could even entertain policies that would make life fair for every day Canadians. Because there is no way to get elected pushing fairness in Canada.

Hmmm, if you and your husband split up for the sake of $6000 saved in taxes, you would have to shell out for two households would you not?

Somehow I think $6000 in taxes is cheaper than two households.

Splitting income or however you want to claim, x amount of taxable income results in x amount of taxes. In some cases one spouse will pay more and the other less but the total will be the same as if you filed separetly. Believe me, I play with these figures every day.
Breaking news, White House being evacuated as air space has been breached.

If your comment was directed to me Mary, I am not suggesting Hunter split their income - I am suggesting that if they separate they will have two households, and therefore two sets of expenses, and that $6000.00 in saved taxes probably will not cover those additional expenses.

Actually, Gayle, it is not necessary to have two households. The FP report on business profiled a couple a few years ago as part of a story on a new trend - divorced couples who remain living in the same structure - just separate quarters. If a couple splits amicably and they remain good friends (as some divorced couples do), they can live as separate individuals in the same dwelling. One just pays the other a nominal rent.

So, it is not necessary to have two households.

Oh my, the point of Hunter's post has been missed entirely.

Mary T, has the goods and you trolling miserable ones, make this PERSONAL.

The good news for Hunter and I'm sure if Mary T were to crunch some numbers, Hunter, would pay more in every other province with the exception of Quebec.
There she would be receiving a LARGE refund, thanks to equalization.
Our accountant did an each province scenario for us and several other family members.

One family member pays 12,000.00 additional in AB but would receive 1500.00 in Quebec.

Hrumph!!

My comment was not for anyone in particular, or for anyone to take any action. Just stating some facts. I am not talking provincial taxes, as they are all different. My point is, if there is x number of taxable income, for ex. 10,000. taxable, it will result in almost the same amount of fed taxes paid, whether it is split between spouses or one person pays on it.
Today I heard Layton talking about some woman who had paid into EI for 13 years and did not qualify for benefits after being laid off. Finally, as he went on, the truth came out. She had just recently returned to work after taking maximum maternity leave. She had not worked in the previous year, or this year to get the necessary hours in to qualify. Men taking maternity leave should pay attention to that little problem. If you don't put in the hours, you don't qualify.
As for Quebec, I had a client from Montreal who did not file in 2007, and moved to AB in early 2008. She did not have her Que forms, so I called Rev Can to get them. OOPS, they don't have them, one must get in touch with the Que tax office. That was fun, client sat beside me, speaker phone on and as instructions were given she said, press 1, press 4, press 6, then, in english I heard, if you want english press 9. That I got. Then I got a lecture about dialing the french number. But, she did send me the Que provincial form and it is in english. It is worse to fill out than the Fed return. She has to pay, and in AB she wouldn't have to. Hubby is after me to get his return done, in time. Working on it.
