Canada is becoming a tyranny of politeness

Excellent Adler post in the National today. Does anybody really think that the issues Toronto is dealing with on the very important subject of young black boys and young black men doing poorly in school is about Mike Harris? Does anybody have the moral courage to talk back to this kind of larceny, this kind of deceipt, this kind of rhetorical manure? Are we really a free people?

Free to speak, not so much, but freer than most. I asked a young female Muslim immigrant why her family came to Canada. Her response was for the freedom, and because Canada was a safe country. I asked an older Chinese immigrant why her family came to Canada, her response was for the safe environment to raise her family. She can't believe that she is free to vote for whoever she wants to, and most importantly, can DEBATE politics without getting arrested.

We must protect those very freedoms. We can not become too scared to speak out, like they are in China. This is not China, but the politically correct want us to believe that being polite is the answer. It's not.

Another discussion I had with my Muslim friend was about religion. She wants NO special treatment. She wants to go to a bar, drink a Coke, and have fun with her beer drinking friends. She does not care if we bring pork in our lunches, and eat it during Ramadan, even though she is fasting. People, she doesn't want us to change to accommodate her, she just wants to fit in and feel safe.

Both immigrants stressed how the "rule of law", and Canadians staunch support of our laws was the main reason they immigrated here. They want to feel safe, and they understand more than Canadians that our laws are what makes our country safe. You commit a crime, you go to jail. It's that simple. For immigrants, coming from countries where corruption and crime is a way of life, they see Canada as a safe harbour.

We know that in dictatorships there is only one emotion that needs to mastered in order turn the people into sheep. FEAR.

Fear of losing your personal freedom, your family, your life. Fear of losing everything because you said something. That's the emotion that becomes your personal tyrant.

FEAR, that is what immigrants are escaping, let's not make our country fearful by listening to the politically correct, they are not correct, they are dead wrong. They are wimps who hide behind words, but do nothing to advance our country, all the while yelling that it is anyone, but them, who are responsible. That's why we see black students dropping out of school, because they do not have to take responsibility for their actions. They hide behind politically correct words, and dare us to call them thugs, because they know that we are too polite to cause waves.

Maybe it's time for us to start calling it as we see it.
