Obama and Harper - Climate Changers!

The environmentalists have been harping at politicians that climate change is real, and something has to be done about it, immediately. We are now seeing politicians reacting, but not to the liking of climate changers. Today is a great example of how politicians are starting to change the tune on the environmentalists.

Both President Obama and PM Harper talked cap and trade, NOT carbon tax. This must be giving Gore and Suzuki fits. You see, with cap and trade, the billions are going to the companies and actual researchers, not to the environmentalists. Gore and Suzuki talk a big game, but do nothing to actually reduce the problem. Gore's carbon credit company is going to suffer. HA!

Carbon sequestration is just as ineffectual as a carbon trading market, so billions will go towards a technology that will work only to make people feel better about using coal or heaven forbid, Alberta's "dirty oil". The MacKenzie pipeline might finally get built, again cutting environmentalists out of the money.

This clip is a huge smack in the face to environmentalists, and they just have to take it. Good job Premier Stelmach!

We have environmentalists against the cleanest form of power generation, nuclear power, and now they are against eco-fuels, carbon sequestration and are left with carbon taxes, bird killing wind turbines and solar. They have boxed themselves into a corner where they can not protest governments actually doing research and innovation on ALL fronts, not just the ones they like, they have after all told us that we are in a crisis with climate. Funny how they never mention real pollution.

Environmentalists have been out foxed, because they are good at protesting and suing, but have not contributed one good invention to cure the world. If the environmentalists protest carbon sequestration that Obama clearly supports, how can they justify it without looking like idiots? Now governments can point to the mega billion dollars being spent and say, "see we are doing something", too bad that is money that could have been better spent on health care.

Hint to the MSM, Obama calls them oil sands NOT tar sands, get with the program!

Some positive coverage. This is the Ottawa Sun. But, even the Star made some slightly positive comments about Harper. Perhaps now that Obama has given Harper his seal of approval, the MSM may smarten up a little bit.

You've got to be kidding, cap and trade is just as bad as a carbon tax. Suzuki and Gore are laughing, they just won. This is another example of Harper et al selling the economy down the river to appease the greenies.

There is no scientific basis to all this CO2 nonsense but why should Harper worry about the science when there might be a chance at picking up the odd green vote.

I can understand your frustration with Harper. I mean, which Harper are you to believe, the Harper from before he got power, the Harper after he got power, the Harper of a month ago, two weeks ago, yesterday?

I mean, the pre-power Harper used to question the reality of climate change and greenhouse gases, calling them "so-called greenhouse gases" based on "controversial scientific hypothesis" that was "a lot of fun for a few scientific and environmental elites in Ottawa" but “tentative and contradictory.” The massive flip flops to curry favour with voters is indeed very frustrating. Who knows where he'll stand on the issue next week.

Now he claims he wants to do something and has been waiting for Obama for a "made-in-the-US" solution. Before not only did he deny climate change, but he called for a "made-in-Canada" solutions to environmental issues. The loss of leadership is indeed lamentable.

Obama has accomplished more in 3 weeks or so than Harper has in 3 years. The long-promised green regulations were delayed once again two weeks ago (http://tinyurl.com/c47j6s).

Of course, the excuse has changed. Before it was "not the time to introduce massive industrial costs that may jeopardize jobs". Now they claim they've been waiting for the US to catch up. "The government’s pledge to impose regulations on Canadian industry to reduce carbon emissions is delayed yet again while Prime Minister Stephen Harper awaits a “made in the U.S.A.” climate change policy, the Opposition environment critic charged Thursday."

Harper's lack of action on the environment has been regularly criticized by independent groups. Most recently by the Auditor General and Environment Commissioner (http://tinyurl.com/br866z and http://www.thestar.com/News/Canada/article/583305): ""The government cannot demonstrate that the money it is spending on some important environmental programs is making a difference. Canadians expect the government to tackle environmental degradation," said Vaughan, who yesterday released his first report as federal environment watchdog. "The government needs to know what works, what doesn't and why. However, our audit work ... found gaps in the information needed for Parliament to know how well the programs we examined are working, or whether adjustments are needed."

And also by the National Roundtable on the Environment and the Economy (http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2007/09/21/climate-panel.html): "The federal government's own environmental advisory body has lobbed sharp criticism at the Conservatives for their climate-change plan, accusing them of overestimating what the plan will accomplish. In a report released Friday, the National Roundtable on the Environment and the Economy said the government's plan is vague, uses questionable accounting methods and exaggerated greenhouse-gas cuts it would result in."

So it is very frustrating to conservatives who believe like Tom Flanagan does and like Harper did until Obama got elected that climate change is a "hoax" (http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/LAC.20090220.ALBERTA20//TPStory/Front).

And it also frustrating for those who believe in climate change and want something to be done, because it is always just words for Harper and no action.

The only one's happy are those who don't mind abandoned principle, US leadership on Canadian domestic issues, and love the flavour of kool-aid.

Francisco - I am somewhat in agreement with you, I think. If you are saying that all this business of Canada having to go to great lengths to do something about the environment then, yes, I agree that it's a load of hogwash.

The greenies are just a bunch of sheep who have been whipped into a frenzy by the likes of Suzuki and Gore. Suzuki is a total hypocrite - Mr. Environment and his jet, polluting and using up tons of fuel. It's all a load of claptrap.
