Alberta Envy!

Print an article about Alberta and sure enough, the Alberta envy shows up. I am glad that Saskatchewan is doing better, I would love to see Ontario get back in the game as well as all other provinces, but a little bit of appreciation for Alberta would be welcomed.

Alberta no longer holds economic bragging rights

EDMONTON -- Alberta's bragging rights as Canada's economic engine are fading and Premier Ed Stelmach says people seem to be a little grumpy about it.

"Everybody's saying `Ooh! This province is doing better than we are,"' Stelmach said. "Man, I don't know what it is that somebody does better and it's like everybody gets concerned."

The title itself sets the article up as an envy piece. "Bragging" rights? I thought Ontario was the economic engine of Canada?

@Maureen,
Alberta does NOT have an excellent education system. Coming from Ontario and teaching here, the standards are ridiculously low, expectations of performance the same, and knowledge of the outside world less than the much maligned Torontonian child's.
You guys dig money out of the ground for free...doesn't take much intelligence to do that.

If this person really is a teacher in Alberta, I hope they move back to Ontario. This is the common attitude of lefties...Alberta hit the jackpot, even a monkey could run Alberta, etc. Well, how come Saskatchewan is just now getting it's engines running? How did Alberta get to be debt free, without a provincial sales tax? They don't care. Us red necked, bible thumping, trailer dwellers couldn't possibly have an excellent education system. Hard work and an independent attitude has nothing to do with success. You see, they can't ALLOW us to be successful. It goes against everything they think is wrong with society today.

Here is a prime example of lefty thinking:

The Conservative government is killing a small program for Canadian documentaries as it spends $40 billion to stimulate the economy.

The move to cancel the $1.5-million program that helps fund thousands of projects has sparked outrage in the film industry.

...... "And both those films became, each in their time, the top grossing feature documentaries ever made in this country," he said.

Montreal producer Eve Lamont made her first feature-length documentary with a $20,000 subsidy from the fund. "Without this fund, my career would never have taken off," she said.

So, did the producer pay back the subsidy? Why does she DESERVE taxpayers money? That's what she is saying, that she deserved this money. Reading the article, it sounds like producers are running the funding and rewarding themselves with our money.

It's not about Alberta, it's about lefties dislike of conservative values. They don't want us to succeed because it proves that socialism doesn't and ultimately can't work. They yell about the "dirty tarsands" while Ontario's coal burning plants are way more polluting. Didn't Dalton say he was going to close them down? How come eco-nuts are giving him a free ride? Alberta will spend over $2 Billion for carbon capture technology, and what do we hear? It's untested, and might not work! Right, like those new light bulbs are such a good idea, or ecofuels? Maybe now that Obama is supporting carbon capture the lefties will shut up.

Don't envy Alberta, you see, it's not the Canadian sand we have that makes our province so great, it's the people and their can do attitudes. We do not sit on our rumps and expect money to be given to us by the government, we get out and do the work!

It is lefties who are dividing our country. Look at where the lefties get votes, in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver, the rest of the people in this country are just like Albertans, they work hard, support their families, and build their communities. Maybe lefties should try it sometime, instead of forming committees to see who can get the most money from the government. Don't waste your time with envy, it just makes you look foolish and petty.

1) It's a subsidy, not a loan; and
2) She is also a taxpayer, like the rest of us.

So, as a person who doesn't vote for the CPC, I am automatically a lefty and therefore incapable of working hard, supporting my family and contributing to my community?

Honestly Hunter, this type of nonsense is beyond partisanship. It's simply childish chatter.

Walk a mile in my shoes before you tell me who I am.

That teacher from Ontario can lick my UBC diploma. Alberta has the highest per capita number of university educated people of all the provinces.

Quebec now gets 8 billion dollars in equalization payments from Canadian taxpayers and these "subsidies" that are in the millions are not included in that amount. Really how much in total does Quebec bleed us for and they talk that they are entitled.

I see our little leftie darlings are up bright and early this morning - don't forget to reset your clocks to Saskatchewan (the engine of Canada) time.

I would assume that the Ontario teacher who "immigrated" to Alberta did so because she/he couldn't get a teaching position in Ontario (the engine of Canada). Must have been the money!!

Well Jeff, you keep on identifying yourself as a lefty, not me. Maybe if you just accepted that truth you would find walking in your own shoes much easier.

The comment from the teacher, speaks of HER ability, in my opinion. Imagine, taking that bias into a classroom full of children? Pathetic.

When we would attend P/T interviews and our child's mark was less than acceptable, we would ask one question. "What was the class average"?
Generally, you would know the answer because these teachers were always the ones with the longest line of parents.
My husband, was the champion because once told our child, was above the PATHETIC class average, he would say, "that reflects more on you as the teacher than on the students"

Got them every time!

The star students in Alberta, are being taught in the Charter System and not the Public, any longer.

Teachers, like this individual is why teachers and unions, should have never happened. They are NEVER fired for stupidity.

Lefties, and their need to be on a constant rant about how bad things are, have earned their place in oppostion.
May they stay there for a long long time, with their message of dispare and hopelessness.

Cheers to Saskatchewan for finally dumping the union lovin', industry depressing NDP government.
Now Saskatchewan is the hot spot of economic interest in North America!

Take note Canada,
give PMSH a mandate to do for Canada what Premier Wall did for Saskatchewan.

Are you suggesting only Conservative voters are capable of working hard, supporting their families and building their communities..or not??

I'm able to do all those things and vote as I choose. My shoes are quite comfortable. I have a left one AND a right one. I wear them both at the same time.

Life isn't as black and white as you like to pretend.

This Maureen from Ontario should scurry right back to her socialist province as fast as she can. I am sure that she will find the classes in green education and Israel baiting that she probably finds lacking in Alberta schools.
As for digging our wealth out of the ground: it always amazes me how the Ontario lefties continue to be so Torontocentric that they don't even consider the nickel mines in Sudbury or the gold mines in Timmins as part of their economy. It's as if these wealth generators are ugly cousins that must never be brought up in polite conversation. Maybe it's just the fact that the government hasn't yet taken a large stake in these industries that makes them invisible to the social engineers. You know, the ones that graduate from environmental studies and social services that the Ontario school system churns out by the thousands and that rely on government jobs to keep them employed so they can harangue the lower class slobs who work with their hands to produce something more than policy papers.

SQ, you are such an arrogant person. Why you show up here and criticize, is beyond me.

Read the sentence again and add the comma,,,,, where I neglected to place it.
After that, grow up and be constructive!

I have a mental picture of SQ and it ain't pretty. Chauvinistic as it may sound, I agree with the expression my mom uses: he's an old woman.

You know the type of male about whom I'm talking. Whiny, bitter, sexually frustrated, couldn't get a woman if his life depended upon it, has no friends, has never been "one of the guys", has never succeeded at anything. Wears really ugly clothes. Has no hair but has a nice pot belly. Blames the world for rejecting him but will not face up to the fact that his whining, criticisms and bitterness drive people away.

Jeff - if you don't like the blog, why do you show up here? I grew weary of the people on Garth's blog (while he was running for office) and left. Now that his blog is not necessarily political, I weigh in every now and then but I don't stick around.
