Conservative Squabbles

This week was not a stellar week for righties. For some reason, some conservatives were upset with PM Harper's speech to a conservative audience, I'm not sure why. You would think that the one time PM Harper could feel like he was among friends would have been at this event. Turns out he's not even safe in a conservative crowd. Shame.

This led me to spend some time thinking about Canada's greatest asset, our military. So, Ontario, I salute you, for your support of our fallen troops. Fight us Conservatives might, but any petty disagreements pale when compared to our troops and their dedication to keeping Canada safe.

When you watch this next video, look for the hands of the families waving to the people on the bridge. If you had any doubt that the families do not notice you standing there on the bridges, that alone should make you realize how much your support means to them. I salute you, and wish I was close enough to be able to be there with you, showing my support.

When it comes right down to it, whether you are a libertarian, a fiscal conservative, social conservative or just a regular conservative, one thing we can all agree on is that our troops have earned our respect and we can stop our squabbles long enough to pause and really think about what we hope to achieve for our country.

They put their lives on the line everyday. A speech by our Prime Minister, that I have listened to, upset some libertarians, I am not sure why. I have read the blog posts, but fail to see what the fuss is about, maybe some libertarian can fill me in. Looking at the big picture, and everything that PM Harper has to put up with, don't you think you can cut the guy some slack?

I am sick and tired of some group or other wanting to pick up their ball and go home. That worked real well last provincial election in Ontario now didn't it? There is no such thing as a sometime, if I am happy, and everything I want is granted to me, Conservative. That is a liberal dressed up as a Conservative. It's easy to be a victim, but it is very very hard to be a Conservative in a lefty world.

Our troops do not care what political party sends them where, they go because they understand that someone has to keep Canada safe. We should honour them, and pray for them daily.

Squabble if you want, but think about what it really means in the grand scheme of life. Think about what it means to Canada. That is the message I got from our Prime Minister.

Nicely said, Hunter.

In the end, we're all on the same team.

Our PM told the truth, that hurt a few weak and shallow egos.

Not only did the PM tell the truth, but also his words are very often misinterpreted, even by members of his own party. And that problem is compounded, of course, by journalists who "report" his words by torquing up what he says, turning everything into some controversial statement, where none exists. Sandy has shown that in her latest post.

Sorry Joanne, but your wrong. We're not all on the same team.
The totally self centered numbskulls who call themselves "Libertarians" all believe that everything should be about them.
Libertarianism, like socialism, is a supremacist ideology. They’re outraged that the PM and every other Conservative doesn’t submit to their beliefs.
Check out the “Shotgun” blog. It’s been taken over by this libertarian crew. Many of them are now hallucinating that Iffy is their new “John Galt” who will lead them to their libertarian utopia. The other thing their always moaning about is that Marc Emery. Yup, those libertarians sure like their pot. That explains a lot, if you ask me.
I say good riddance to them, Iffy can have them all.

This swell of pride and demonstration of honour for our military was led by PMSH and Hillier.
I have no doubt, that with a Lib/Dipper govt, the military Decade of Darkness would have been extended to 2 decades.
In 3 short years since PMSH took over, tho it seems longer, this is a huge much needed change.

Grassroots conservatives are essential, and should continue to challenge and define/redefine the party.
Otherwise, once in government, we lose our way.

But we must be realistic.
PMSH is Prime Minister of a country,
not a party.
CPC members can 'influence' government policy,
but ALL MPs from ALL parties make the laws for the entire country.

We compromise while leading,
or we will install a Liberal Dipper coalition government...

Rather than assume the PM "insulted" libertarians, I invite them to read the PM's own words delivered in that speech at the Manning Centre on the topic of conservatism.
The text available here: http://crux-of-the-matter.com/ under the thread entitled "PM Harper’s “private” speech in his own words."
(H/T to David Akin's blog for the audio)

Whenever I read comments from conservatives pitting one faction against another, I sometimes think those are either faux conservatives, whose conservative roots are rather superficial, or outright lefty plants - in both senses of the words ;-) - trying to sow discord in our ranks.

PS: I will be posting this comment over at Mike Brock's blog as well. He is one libertarian present at that speech who felt insulted.
