Quebec, Waking Up With A Hangover!
Quebec's worst nightmare is now a reality, a Conservative majority, without Quebec's support. They have even less representation in Parliament than they had last election with a minority Conservative government. The west is in, and Quebec is out. The west asked them to the prom, but they said no, we want a socialist government to feed our unending appetite for "goodies" at the taxpayers expense. Quebec should have woke up after election night with a huge hangover and a stranger in their bed.
How disrespectful of our democracy can you get when you elect representatives who never even set foot in their ridings. It's not only Vegas girl, there are others as well. Quebec obviously wanted to send a message to the rest of Canada. My take on their message is that they wanted nothing more to do with propping up the Bloc, but they also didn't want to join the rest of us. They wanted to remain unique.
Unique they are, they now have to go to their NDP MP's, if they can find them and understand them, for representation in our country. It is one thing to protest with your vote, it is a whole other thing to protest smartly. Quebec voted without actually thinking about the consequences, and now they have to live with what they voted for. Good luck Quebec, we will see you in 4 years.
Quebec voted for the NDP because they thought the Conservatives would only get a minority, and they didn't want the Liberals to take power in a coalition. Who would have thought a majority was possible without Quebec? HA! Now Quebec is stuck with no real representation in government. The Conservatives will make sure that Quebec is served, but what can they do with only 6 MP's from Quebec? Quebec has so screwed themselves. It looks good on them.
Meanwhile back in Alberta, the "for hire" signs are popping up all over the place. We need workers and if those lefties from Quebec and PEI refuse to come here to work, they should be made to pay for the foreign workers we will need to bring in, while they sit on their duffs and pull in EI bucks. I see lots of BC, Sask, Man and Ont license plates here, but can't remember the last time I have actually seen a Quebec or PEI plate. My husband was smart enough to leave PEI to come to Alberta because there were no opportunities in PEI. He is still here and doing better than any of his 6 siblings back in PEI.
Quebec went out on a binge on election night, and is now waking up with a hangover!

The Opposition Screwed Themselves!
I was blasted by my NDP office mate the other day about immigration and how reuniting families should be the priority. Today I was the only one predicting a Conservative majority. I should have laid down some bets with real money involved. Now, I can walk into work with head held high and thumb my nose at the "scared" voters. My office mate even brought up the old "abortion and gay marriage" scare tactic today. I am sure that works well with his NDP buddies, but it didn't sit well with me and obviously it didn't "scare" other Canadians.
God blessed Canada today with 4 years of stable government. PEI and Newfoundland should stop sending their kids here, they should send them to Liberal/NDP strongholds instead. Maybe they can go to Quebec to get their jobs! Oops, not many Atlantic voters speak French, so scratch that idea.
What makes me most thankful is that now, with a majority we will not see a carbon market anytime soon. With a majority, we can finally work together for Canada and Canadians in every province.
Let the "hidden agenda" out.... lowering taxes, less government, and provincial responsibilities respected. YIKES! I'm "scared"! NOT
The opposition called an election based on fake "contempt" charges, and they screwed themselves by electing a Conservative majority. Suck it up princesses. When Duceppe and Ignatieff both lose their seats, you have to think Canadians have made their choice, and their choice is PM Harper!

Layton Refuses To Answer Questions On Cap And Trade
"People are going to look at Jack Layton not only as a guy who is inexperienced, everyone starts off with no experience that is a given, but a guy who comes from a party who has financial economic policies who are not in the interest, certainly of Alberta as the very least, and very questionable," said Conservative candidate Laurie Hawn. The Conservatives have pointed out when Jack Layton is in Alberta he says, ‘oil sands', but when he is in the east, he uses the activists term, ‘tar sands.'
Layton, lying out of both sides of his mouth. His rise in the polls is because of the Liberals tanking, but no media is mentioning that little gem. Funny how the Liberals have always said that people needed to vote for them to stop Harper, now the NDP are singing the same song.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, PM Harper, is steadily steering the Conservative ship towards a majority. I know it's kind of unexciting, but it's better than a Layton coalition government.
The polls are all over the place, I wonder if Avaaz is paying the pollsters? Who is getting money? University kids to post on media sites? Maybe SUN News can find out.
Ignore the white noise that is our media. PM Harper is going to PEI again, and from the comments it sounds like they are enjoying the attention. If only the people of PEI could understand that we dislike Wayne Easter because he supports the Canadian Wheat Board that suppresses the ability of our western farmers to compete. The Liberals threw our farmers into jail, some for over 6 months because they wanted to sell their wheat in Montana. How would PEI potato farmers like to be told that they can only sell their potatoes to Alberta and they couldn't sell them to McCains unless they sold them to Alberta first, then they could buy them back from Alberta at the higher market price?
PEI can deliver some Conservative seats, please help your western buddies! (I thank you for sending me my wonderful husband who left PEI in search of a better life, and has found it here in Alberta! He still needs yearly trips back to the Island, I suspect if we retire there it will solve his homesickness and satisfy my love of lobster.)
Newfoundland needs to be scared of the Layton surge, they will pander to Quebec and you can say goodbye to any hopes of your plans for power independence. The only party that will actually support you is the Conservatives. Think hard about your choices and your future.
I expect the media to be shouting about Layton not answering questions about cap and trade in Edmonton. Who is the dictator now? How will cap and trade, that ALL opposition parties support, impact us? I leave you will this video that answers that question H/T to Jan Webb over at BLY:
UPDATE: Linda Duncan doesn't care about the people in her riding:
Are there not oil-reliant jobs in her riding? “So what?” she says. “Does that mean the oilsands should develop unmitigated?”

Why Would You Vote Liberal?
Canadians have been guided gently through an economic crisis that the US is still feeling. Our Prime Minister has been fighting not only the opposition but also the biased media everyday, every minute, since he has been elected. He has shown class and patience with an opposition that feels it is their duty to oppose everything his government proposes. He has given everything for this country, without asking for anything back. He has governed in fairness to all Canadians. He is now asking Canadians to give him acknowledgment for a job well done by giving him a majority. He has been open and candid about his hopes for a chance to govern for 4 quiet years, so he can continue to move Canada into the spotlight as one of the best countries in the world.
Are Canadians so petty that they will not vote Conservative because they fear a "hidden agenda" but think a coalition including the Bloc is okay? Are Canadians, supposedly one of the happiest nations in the world, so deceived by the biased media that they actually believe the slop they are selling?
What has PM Harper ever done to you, except govern this country better than anyone of us could hope to do? I am sickened by the "Harper Haters" who bash him constantly for petty little things like not showing everyone on TV that he actually ate the "wafer" at a funeral Mass. Sad little people with tiny little minds.
Our Prime Minister has made this country proud, he has taken a strong stance for Israel (loosing a seat at the security council because of his support for Israel), he has supported our military like no PM in recent history, and he has not bowed down to the separatists. He is asking for one small thing, a majority, so he can govern without fear of another election in 6 months.
As Canadians, proud of our country, solid hardworking citizens wanting the best for our children, we can not fail him now!
I am talking to Atlantic Canadians right now. You send your young people to the west because there are jobs here. That is how I met my husband, he came from PEI to Alberta over 25 years ago, and he is still here. Why would you vote Liberal?
Many people from Newfoundland come to work here and send their pay cheques home, improving the lives of all people living in Newfoundland. Why would you vote Liberal?
I ask you to consider what your lives would be like if the Liberals or NDP imposed a cap and trade on the oil industry. Alberta would be closed down once again, NEP II. Your jobs would disappear, and no more pay cheques would be arriving in Newfoundland or PEI. Think carefully about how you vote.
Ontario voters need to understand that if the oil industry is over regulated, they will move their operations to Venezuela and all those jobs manufacturing tiny little bearings or huge tires for the oil sands will dry up. Think carefully about how you vote.
Albertans are some of the staunchest supporters of Canada. Don't let us down!
Think carefully before you vote, Canada is too important to let petty, partisan politics destroy this country.

Biased Media Making Up The News?
I find it interesting that the opposition brought down the Conservative government on a vote of non-confidence because of "contempt" by the government, but that didn't play very well, so the media have gone back to the faux scandals, like the wafergate, the Odagate, the _______ (fill in the blank) gate. The media is going for the emotional issues, because they know PM Harper will win on the economy and tax issues. BOO HOO a pro-Iggy supporter got asked to leave a Harper rally. Now she is a victim? Give me a break.
On Sunday, the Liberals released their "red book" and it stank, that's why the media is trying to change the channel. They don't want us to know about the cap and trade/carbon tax that the Liberals (and NDP) want to impose on the west. They don't want us to know about how the Liberals will gut the military, AGAIN!
Here is one of the best blog postings I have seen totally destroying the "red book". Some highlights:
The current Fleece Merchants obviously consider Pierre Trudeau, who almost bankrupted Canada, to have been a piker. This time around, the Liberals will do a much better job of bankrupting Canada and extracting every last cent from our wallets.Go check out this blog post to see the examples, it's a must read.
Traditional Liberal supporters and money holes like First Nations/Aboriginals/Metis, Artists and "free money" outlets (Council for Arts), the Civil Service and special (entitlement) interest groups are favoured in the Liberal income re-distribution scam.
But there's more! By re-positioning far to the left of the NDP's platform, the Liberal Party has to cater to a host of new supporters, and welcome back all their old supporters, at a large cost to you and me. Examples include:
The slimy media has nothing to do but attack PM Harper for something he had no control over, and American Iggy couldn't help but slam him, smugly, in a Tim Horton's. You are not fooling anyone Iggy, blue sweater or not, you are a snob!
PM Harper has done a terrific job during a very challenging time, where every country took a hit. We have come out of it quicker than any other country thanks to his management. (Lefty trolls will say it was Martin who is responsible, but the Liberals has been out of power for 5 years, they just haven't gotten used to it yet).
Why did the opposition cause this election? To attain power. Simple.
How? By any means possible, like a coalition. This time they won't actually sign a document, but if you have ever watched the committees where they have the MAJORITY, you will understand how they collaborate to make Parliament dysfunctional.
Both the Liberals ( in their red book of tricks) and the NDP have come out saying they want to shut down the oil sands. NEP II. This will not sit well with the west, but we have so few votes that we have to rely on Ontario to help us out. Think about this, PEI has 4 MP's when their population would only actually deserve 1 MP. Little PEI is more powerful than Alberta, the engine that is driving our economy. Alberta is getting smoking hot again, this means more revenue for the feds, our deficit could disappear sooner than projected, unless the coalition gets elected.
Now the Liberals/media are attacking a very good ad by the Conservatives, because they use the flag that Iggy called a beer can label. They are disgusting, and the media is pandering to them so badly no Conservative can watch them anymore.
Bring on Sun News!

Calling Atlantic Canada, We Need You!
PEI voters showed up to support PM Harper and the Conservatives. I don't know what the media is going on about when they say Harper is angry, watch this and see him, at ease and having fun.
Quebec is moving towards the Conservatives, so even if we only hold the seats we have there now, it's a win. Ontario is a key province, and something I found really interesting was this poll result:
Vancouver 41.6% CPC 29.0% LPC
Calgary 52.7% CPC 22.3% LPC
Toronto 40.9% CPC 34.8% LPC
Ottawa 38.4% CPC 43.8% LPC
Montreal 16.2% CPC 25.9% LPC
Toronto is at 40.9% supporting the Conservatives, and only 34.9% for the Liberals! THAT IS HUGE! Think about it, the only Liberal strongholds left are Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal. Vancouver is at 41.6% Conservative to 29% Liberal...OUCH! The only hope left for the Liberals is Montreal, and even that is shaky. Funny how the media missed those little details! HA!
I know the polling pundits are saying that Ontario and BC are critical, and they are, but Atlantic Canada can deliver a Conservative majority if they want to, and I hope they do.
I remember the 2006 election. It was the first time I volunteered and got involved in the actual election, I was ticked at the Liberals for stealing our money. This election is starting to feel the same way, but this time I am ticked that the opposition think they can take over the government without winning the election. It might be legal, but it stinks to high heaven.
This time PM Harper is openly asking for a majority, and Canada needs to get behind him, starting with Atlantic Canada, flowing to Quebec, Ontario, the Prairies, BC, and the Territories. The wave of support starts in the Atlantic, on election day send us here on the prairies a message, send us the majority the PM Harper deserves. We will be happy if our votes end up being a "Me Too" vote!
This is not a media election, even though they are trying their hardest to get us to vote for the Liberal coalition. This is an election for Canadians, by Canadians. This is an election where we decide whether we want a stable majority Conservative government, or a coalition government ruled by the losers.
It starts with Atlantic Canada, don't let us down, we have faith in you.

We Are All Guilted Out!
Today, 50,000 Quebec nation citizens showed up in support of bringing back the Quebec Nordiques. Good for them, I support hockey also! We here in Edmonton need a new rink too. Only difference is that we actually have a NHL team called the Edmonton Oilers, who we have supported through ownership battles and poor performance, every year, year in and year out.
Here's a question, if the 50,000 Quebec Nordiques fans who showed up today, gave $100 each towards the arena, would they still need to suck so hard at the taxpayer trough, or could they start funding the arena on their own? Same goes for the Edmonton Oilers fans. Why do these hockey fans expect taxpayers to pay for their sports excitement? Support it yourselves. Go out and find industry sponsors, convince them that their money is better spent on sports than any green initiative. Hold lotteries, like Stars Ambulance does. Isn't that ridiculous, our life saving Ambulance service needs to fund raise, but artists and athletes, who save no-one, get free money? Fund it yourselves. Taxpayers can only pay so much for every-bodies "goodies". We are all guilted out!
Next example, PEI, needs repairs done to the Home of Confederation. Okay, I can understand this one, but as a home owner, I wonder how they let things get that bad.
I've been there, I pictured the Fathers of Confederation sitting there, building Canada into a nation, it left a lasting impression with me. If Mr. Baglole thinks the place is stale, maybe he's the problem, not the building. The bottom line is that they want money to fix it. Taxpayers money. Three years ago it looked perfectly fine to me. I think it should be preserved as a great part of our history, but can you get your hands out of our pockets? How did the Confederation bridge get built? Could you hold a lottery? Something other than going whining to the federal government to get money. Why didn't you mention this when stimulus money was available? No, you wanted a sports center in Summerside more, didn't you?"There have been problems over the years," Mr. Baglole said in an interview. "Initially, the federal government put in a lot of money for restoration, which was great, but then interest faded."
Not only is the physical facility deteriorating, the space is devoid of the glamour, purpose and ceremony that the landmark building deserves, he said.
"There is a feeling that it is quite a static place. There is not much happening. I'd like to see a much larger presence of the provincial government and the story and interpretation of the story of democracy and P.E.I. in the building.
I am tired of every special interest group in this country with their hands out for funds when real poverty exists on our reservations and when truly handicapped people are barely able to survive. You want a hockey arena, get off your butt and start fund raising to get it. You want houses for low income people, stop whining about it, and hold a lottery. If people really support your cause, they will fund it.
Government is not Mother Cash Cow, giving endless milk to all who show up, most wanting only the cream, and not the skim. Get off the taxpayers teat, it's been wrung dry by too many causes without results. We are all guilted out, our pockets are empty, and our quality of life has decreased. Leave us alone.

Canadian Heart And Soul.
It appears that Iggy is off to England to show his Canadian credentials to Europe. You know, he is going to trumpet how great Canada is because he has been there for what...five years now? He is going to pledge his undying love of.....?????? Right. The guy needs to understand Canadians and he is off to Europe to find that one proud Canadian with a flag on their backpack.
Liberals talk about Canadian values like they are the only ones who know what they are, but they forget about the Canadian heart and soul that makes our country great.
Our heart and soul is those farmers who toil night and day to get food to our tables.
Our heart and soul is those volunteers who donate their time to causes that actually help people live a better life.
Our heart and soul is reflected in the First Nations people who keep their traditions while integrating them into Canadian society.
Our heart and soul beats strongly when one of our hockey teams might win the Stanley cup. (Come on boys, surely one Canadian team can win it back!!)
Our heart and soul is our land. I can not picture Iggy or his wife planting a veggie garden and tending it with love. I can not feel any connection to Iggy and our land. I am talking about Canada here, I am talking about the soil, the earth, the water, the wildlife that make Canada home. I get no sense of home from Iggy. No sense of what makes Canada great. No sense of understanding that Canadians are about the land, the beauty and the inspiration the land brings to your very soul.
While lefties protest at the G20, chanting "the whole world is watching", they leave me cold, they have no cause, they are juveniles coming out of their basements to protest their inability to adjust to real life. They are the misfits of society. If they really wanted to help the poor people of Africa, they would go there and help, but lefties are good at protesting, and very bad at actually doing anything to fix the problems.
The Canadian heart and soul is our land. Those who can feel it, and protect it are the real Canadians. The land has a pulse, you need to stop and listen to it. This land is alive, and Canadians need to keep it that way. We need to be careful of who we put in government, on ALL levels, because one bad decision can suck the air out of the land and leave it desolate.
It is up to Canadians to make sure we protect what makes us Canadian, our vast and diverse land.

Come Out, Come Out, Whoever You Are!
Considering that PEI only has 120,000 people in total, and probably only 50 work at the airport, you would think that someone would have figured out who the squealer is. Believe me, everyone knows everyone in PEI. So, why hasn't the letter writer come forward? The people of PEI should be embarrassed by this persons lack of balls and accountability for the pain they have caused to Helena. I wonder if now that they know she had just suffered her second miscarriage, if they feel any remorse for what was by all accounts a politically motivated slime job of Minister Helena.
The people of PEI should listen to their Premier when he tells them that Minister Shea had nothing to do with a contract awarded to her son-in-laws firm. He is one of the few honest Liberals they are going to meet.
I remember a night out in PEI, where "Hang Em High" Liberal MP Shawn Murphy was working the bar, charming all the "cougars". They were loving the attention, and will vote for him again because he is such a good guy. That's all it takes in PEI, drinks at the bar.
When he came our way and he found out we were from Alberta, he yapped about how partisan our Alberta MP's are, and showed none of the friendly PEI hospitality we love so much. He's not the worst of the 4 PEI MP's, Wayne Easter has to take that title. How is it that PEI gets 4 MP's for 120,000 people but other MP's have 120,000 per riding? Even my PEI relatives are embarrassed about that situation.
I want the person that wrote to Wayne Easter to come forward, with the tape of the incident, or at the very least the RCMP should investigate that person. That person needs to take responsibility for starting a witch hunt against Helena, for purely partisan reasons. So, "Hang Em High" Murphy can call Albertans partisan all he wants, but when it comes right down to it, PEI is showing what Liberal toadies they really are, and they should be calling Wayne Easter to task.

Skanky MSM and Opposition

The hound dogs are howling into the dark again. All attack dogs are out in full force and digging up anything they can to discredit the Conservatives. The problem is that these attacks are getting embarrassing for the MSM and the opposition.
It is really degrading for the opposition to keep on attacking Helena for something she had no control over. The MSM has come out of the closet to show their true liberal bias. It makes them stink to high heaven. When it was revealed that Pablo got questions from a media hack, it barely made a ripple, it was a one day wonder at best. The media has not questioned Pat Martin about his assistant leading the U of Zeros protest against Ann Coulter, why not? She was actually foaming at the mouth, now that is a radical.
The attacks against Helena have been relentless and they wonder why women don't run for Parliament? Hedy "burning crosses" is a roll model to young girls, but Helena who got upset at the Charlottetown airport on her birthday, is a demon? Look, I love PEI, it is a great place with very friendly people, we might even retire there, but if Wayne Easter is representative of who PEI wants to send to Parliament, I'm not sure I even want to buy PEI potatoes. What have the federal Liberals ever done for PEI? Lots of promises, no action.
The opposition are proving themselves to be very small people by their relentless attacks on Helena. The Conservatives need to start firing back or they will lose my respect. I have always thought that Conservatives treat their female members as equals, I am beginning to have my doubts.
If we look at the issue, Helena had a hissy fit at the PEI airport, she apologized. That should be the end of the story. Unfortunately the Liberal party needs a scandal to bring down the Conservatives, and so they get their media attack dogs to keep this story alive in the hopes that something will stick to the Conservatives.
They are sickening and that is why they are sinking in the polls. Ganging up on a female is pretty sad. Maybe Iggy can explain how what a husband does reflects on the wife, like his leaving his wife and family for the "love of his life". Nice morals Iggy.

PEI? HUMMM, Where Have I heard About PEI?
Yes, that is PEI Liberal MP Shawn Murphy calling for the hanging of former PM Mulroney. Not a whisper of this was heard on the MSM.
I guess being a Liberal carries certain privileges that you just don't get as a Conservative. How about that clip on Ruby? Her purse gets stolen, the little kids get beaten, and she hopes they learnt a lesson??? It got no play in the Canadian media. She has gone on to even greater heigths, remember this?
So, having a hissy fit at the airport was bad, it sure didn't make me respect Helena, but let's get real here. The media makes me sick they are so biased. They are the Liberals free advertising machine. We pay one billion a year for the privilege of having CBC crow for the Liberals. What the media fails to understand is that we can record what they fail to report and post it on Youtube. In this day of instant messaging, the MSM is the dinosaur.
I suggest that the Liberals start showing up to vote on bills. When 40% of your MP's fail to show up for a confidence vote on the budget, that should be news, but of course it wasn't. Now Iggy is out stomping in high schools instead of being in the house. How shocking! HA!

Election? Shhh, Don't Let The Opposition Know This!
Some polls show the Liberals and Conservatives tied, others show one ahead of the other, though lately it's only the Conservatives who seem to be polling ahead. So, let's forget the polls and look back on the 2008 elections. The Conservatives needed 155 seats for a majority, they got 143. So they were short by 12 MP's. Let's put independent Andre in the Conservative win column, so they really only needed 11 MP's. Here is the shocker, when you look at the close races, they only needed under 7000 votes more. If 7000 more Conservatives would have voted we would have had a majority.
Vancouver South 22
Esquimalt-Juan de Fuca 68
Brampton West 231
Welland 300
Edmonton-Strathcona 463
Western Arctic 523
Vancouver Kingsway 745
Brampton-Springdale 773
Burnaby-Douglas 798
Sault Ste. Marie 1111
New Westminster-Coquitlam 1488
Add them up, you get 6522. Less than 7000 votes. The 11 ridings we needed were less than 7000 votes away. One thing that all Canadians should take note of, is that NONE of those close ridings were in the province of Quebec. Let me repeat that for all those lefties who think that Quebec actually plays a part in getting a majority, no close ridings were in Quebec. As a matter of fact, if you look at the Bloc votes, not even the Liberals riding as high as 30% in that province will convert those polls into actual gains in ridings. The media loves to slam Alberta for voting Conservative, but look at the Quebec numbers and they are just as bad, if not worse, but no one dares mention that little fact. Quebec is not needed anymore for a majority, because they vote for the Bloc, and cut down the votes for the traditional parties. The Bloc usually wins about 50 of the 75 seats in Quebec, which reduces the Bloc to a rump party like the NDP. They will never be in power, and so have no impact except that the Bloc MP's will get huge pensions from the Canada they want to separate from.
If Danny Williams hadn't gone on a rampage against the Conservatives, we might have had a majority. Now I love Newfoundlanders, but do you have to be such followers? Could you not vote Williams provincially and Conservatives federally? Speaking of the Atlantic provinces, what have the Liberals ever done for you? Seriously, tell me, post a comment telling me how you are better off because you vote Liberal. You had 13 years of Liberal rule, how did that work out for you? Did the cod suddenly reappear? Why is my PEI husband still here in Alberta earning his living? Will Atlantic Canada ever wake up and realize that the Liberals are users, and they have been using you for years. PEI has 140,000 people and they have 4 MP's, Alberta has over 3 million people and they only have 28 MP's, or 107,000 people per MP. How is that fair? According to those statistics PEI should only have ONE MP! They can prevent a Conservative majority because they get more MP's than they should.
I am tired of the east dictating who should be in power. Most Atlantic provinces along with Quebec do not have the population to support the power they have. Tiny PEI has 3 times the power over Alberta in our confederation then they should. WHY?
Funny I don't hear the judges talking about our Charter of Rights when it comes to some provinces having an unequal share of MP's for their population. I thought our system was based on representation by population. Silly me.

Duffygate! Lefties Just Can't Help Themselves!
You would think that wafergate would have been enough to send a message to the MSM, but it appears that they have no clue. They think because they own the media, they own us.
So, right after the wafergate was proven to be a lie, we have the Duffygate! A more blatant misuse of a reporter's power I have never seen! Thank goodness we have the blogsphere. Thank goodness we have the Blogging Tories. Without such a strong group, the media could ignore our voices, but they can't now. The Blogging Tories are a strong team of Conservative minded people who are being heard and are making a difference.
I love PEI, my husbands family lives there, and we will probably retire there (depending on what the kids do). It's a delightful, safe place. Too bad the media makes mountains out of nothing.
Duffy's speech hints at looming federal election
P.E.I. senator sings praises of prime minister
TERESA WRIGHT
The Guardian
Rumours about a looming federal election this fall were certainly not quelled by P.E.I. Senator Mike Duffy in a speech to a group of business people Monday.
Speaking to members of the Charlottetown Rotary club Monday afternoon, Duffy used his 15 minutes at the microphone to highlight the hundreds of millions of dollars the Conservatives in Ottawa have committed to P.E.I. over the past few months.
Funding announcements and re-announcements, both on P.E.I. and across the country, have become an almost daily occurrence since federal MPs began their summer hiatus. ‘The Duff’ has been front and centre for many of these announcements on the Island, representing Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s government, praising the PM’s vision for the country at each one.
On Monday, he reminded those at the luncheon as well as those watching on EastLink cable about many of those funding commitments and promised more of the same for the coming weeks and months.
What I would like to ask Teresa Wright is did she report on the Charlottetown MP, who wanted to hang Mulroney high? You remember this one right? It's not made up like Wright's story, this is real live action from Parliament Hill!
And PEI Liberal's re-elected him after that outburst, probably because their newspaper forgot to report it. I love PEI, and I know how hard working PEIer's are. What I can't understand is why they want to be Liberal toadies, when the Conservatives have given them more respect than the Liberals ever did. The Liberals promise, the Conservatives deliver! That was the essence of Duffy's speech, but the reporter just didn't get it.

The East Rocks!

I mean Atlantic Canada, or PEI more specifically. Despite two weeks of rain, we managed to get to all the tourist spots on the island and loved every minute of it. The crowning moment was catching the biggest cod on the deep sea fishing boat!

My husband had to reel that big baby in because I'm left handed and the reel was set for a righty, it was still my cod, and he was delicious! On the lobster, we went to the New Glasgow dinner, paid $160 for 4 lobsters, big rip off, we went to a wharf a few days later and got 4 lobsters for $50, brought them back to the cabin, had new potatoes and yellow beans, and it was a much better meal.
Now, the island politics as I read it. We went to a pub and a Liberal MP just happened to be there schmoozing with the clientele and enjoying a fewwwww drinks. He was a total Ahole and from what I could make out, he didn't much like Alberta MP's. If any Conservative MP had been caught in his state, CBC and CTV would be yelling blue murder. On the island, the party doesn't seem to matter, just how many relatives you have to vote for you. Even Islander's think 4 MP's is 3 too many!
Talking to the family, they thought 3 out of the 4 Liberal MP's were totally useless, and the 4th has resigned. I predict PEI will go Conservative if the Conservatives pick well known representatives.
The Dion Green Shaft came up in conversation, and all I can say is that the Islander's hate it. We saw stacks of wood beside every house that had a fireplace. (Isn't that environmentally unfriendly?) Every retired person on a fixed income is already suffering from high heating oil prices, so the Liberals can't count on their votes. They protected the auto industry with no gas price increases (right) but want to charge people more for their heat? Good strategy, NOT!
Taxes, we were shocked by the PST. Coming from Alberta and only paying the 5% GST, to pay the GST and 10.5% PST made us sick. Worse, the PST was calculated after the 5% GST, so you were paying tax on tax. Now I understand what harmonizing the taxes means, and every province who hasn't done it, should.
The pace in PEI is slower, the scenery is wonderful, but me and my prairie boys were just happy to get home to the black dirt and wheat fields.

If we would have hit the jackpot on my birthday, the 8/8/8, I would have bought this Church for the $60,000 they wanted and turned it into a dine and dance place called "Soul Food". Oh well, guess God has other ideas for me.

He's talking to me right now, a wonderful thunder storm after a hot day to cool off the place! I love thunderstorms!!! Yuck, work tomorrow.

There Is No Place Like Home!
Tomorrow I will post some pictures. What a beautiful island PEI is, and the people are wonderful too. The pace is much slower on the island than in Edmonton, and LOBSTER...yummmm! That's one m for every lobster I ate, and wait until you see the cod I caught, yes, we ate it too, no catch and release for that baby.
My biggest observation, nobody has a fence in PEI. Not cottages, not farms, not one fence did I see in Charlottetown, not one. I found this a good indication of the openness of the people. I worried about dogs on the loose, and getting run over, but it was the skunks that were the aroma of the highways.
More tomorrow about lobster, meeting a Liberal MP, and island politics as I saw it. It's just nice to be home.

Look Out PEI, Here We Come!
We leave tonight at midnight (red eye into Toronto), get into Moncton at noon, cross the Confederation bridge, and presto, my husband regains his PEI accent, happens every time we go there. Dragging 4 sets of golf clubs with us is a bit of a hassle, we need to rent that big SUV to get from golf course to golf course, but it's worth it.
Beaches, long empty stretches of beach, searching for sea glass especially the blue pieces, and did I mention LOBSTER? For my birthday, on 08/08/08 (wonder if that's extra lucky?) my husband's Mom joins us for the best lobster supper on PEI, The World Famous New Glasglow Lobster Supper, we are only about 5 minutes away, so I expect we might go there more than once.
Then, for the first time in over 20 years all 7 brothers and sisters will be on the Island, so a big family picnic is planned. I'm going to stuff myself on the best potatoes in the world, PEI potatoes and fresh fish, like LOBSTER! Wonder if I can pack farm fresh PEI potatoes in my luggage? Don't laugh, I've already sent all my spices ahead with one of my husband's brothers!
As you can tell, we are pretty excited, I love PEI! Did I mention LOBSTER? HA!
We will come home, broke, 10 pounds heavier, but happy!
So, seeing as the cabin doesn't have the internet, I will sign off for 2 weeks, and come back with my adventures on PEI.
Oh....did I mention LOBSTER?

PEI Joins CWB, Welcome Aboard!
PEI has opted to join the Canadian Wheat Board to help them market their potatoes, welcome aboard! Ontario farmers are also rumoured to be ready to join with western farmers by selling their wheat and corn only to the CWB. This is a huge showing of support for the CWB, and how efficient they are in marketing agriculture products to the rest of the world. Quebec dairy and hog farmers are also hinting that it is time for them to support the CWB by shipping their products to only one seller, the CWB.
Reporters talked with CWB President, C. U. Lye, and he was dumbfounded by this sudden show of support, by provinces they do not control. Expressing his astonishment, he had this to say, "This outpouring of support for our repressive monopsony, seeing as we are the only buyer in the market, it unbelievable, it clearly shows the the CWB is on the right track to keep suppressing our farmers, and that if need be we can jail them without worry. If we get all agriculture producing provinces supporting us, farmers will be done for, and the cities will have won."
Joining in with support for farmers are the opposition parties in Parliament, here is what they had to say about this outbreak of support for the CWB:
MPs say time for feds to abandon barley campaign
OTTAWA -- Opposition MPs say it's time for the government to abandon its campaign to end the Canadian Wheat Board's monopoly on sales of western barley.
Liberal Wayne Easter says consecutive losses in the courts make it clear that the government can't go on.
He says the move to allow farmers the choice of selling their barley themselves or through the board threatens the existence of the marketing agency.
PEI Liberal MP Easter was dumbfounded to find out that the court losses had convinced PEI potato farmers to also support the CWB, by putting their next years crops in the capable hands of the CWB so that the existence of the marketing agency would not be threathened. He could be heard mumbling, "It's okay to keep Alberta wheat farmers down and out, but I never thought PEI potato farmers would buy my line of BS." Attempts to interview him for this article were met with the response that he was hiding out in a potato field, counting seedlings.
Alberta farmers can not believe that they will have to continue selling only to the CWB and that opposition MP's don't even feel a slight sickness in how they continue to repress democracy for farmers.
