Conservatives, Not Hungry Anymore?

I was thinking about why I'm not really that engaged with politics right now, and I came to the conclusion that I'm not hungry for a win anymore. Conservatives are in power now, not clawing their way out of opposition. The Liberals have been reduced to a rump party of Toronto/Montreal, and the NDP and Greens are irrelevant as usual.

Last election I just wasn't fired up because my MP wins by margins of 60% or more. We didn't have to fight the Liberals anymore, especially with Dion as their leader, Iggy is no better. I will volunteer in NDP MP Linda Duncan's riding next election because that is the only challenging seat left in Alberta.

If a lowly volunteer is unmotivated, how about our Conservative MP's? Have they lost the fire in their guts? Are they taking votes for granted? Are they just trying to hang on to power? Have they forgotten the voters who got them there in the first place? Here in Alberta, they know they will get reelected, not very motivating. If they aren't motivated, why should we be?

The long gun issue is one that might motivate Conservatives, but what else? What's on your wish list? The HRC's are at the top of mine.

I would like to see the Conservatives take the lead in health care and particularly CCSVI research for MS patients. Leona Agluquak has dropped the ball on this file and Kirsty Duncan has picked it up. There are approximately 75,000 MS patients in Canada and at least 10 people are associated with each MS sufferer. That makes a voting block of 750,000 people who may vote for whomever has their best interests at heart. Since there is no downside for our federal government to support CCSVI research, I don't understand why they surrendered this important file to the opposition.

You have a point - however I don't see the federal Conservatives as "comfortable", I see them as "confident" in their own identity and governing style. It suits them to be in charge and be the government. They just need to look across the House of Commons and shudder at the chaos. Cheers.

sag.69OMG...r u kidding. How about having the Conservatives unscrew the deficit they created. Or do you want to leave that to the Liberals to fix...again.

We are in the middle of a war. You and Peter McKay may be disinterested but we would like to see the troops come home.

How about Jason Keeny unscrewing immmigartion. HE let all those tamil tiger boat people into Canada.

How about fixing the mess at the RCMP by getting rid of that fool commissioner Elliott.

There are plenty more issues. How about Harper getting off his duff and creating trade agreements with the EU and Asia. We can't rely on the US trade to carry us anymore.

You are like a lot of Conservatives that have lost their way. Attaining power was all that mattered. Policy was second.

Feeling the same way, but then again the PM and party seem to be rolling along. Maybe not quite in a direction that we like but in a minority that is a must do. Canadians seem to be single issue voters rather than party philosophy types. As well, we don’t have long election seasons like in the USA where they are constantly in election mode (they have that third level of government – president – to vent against too).
Not having “political thoughts” all the time might allow all of us to get some real work done. “Kitchen” anyone?

The lack of political interest comes and goes for everyone and the summer seasons usually finds it "going". That was especially true for this past summer. I certainly noticed it in the Canadian blogs.

I'm going to predict that the political temperature will be rising now that Parliament will be back shortly.

Hopefully it won't last long and we'll head into an election soon.

All the crying by disgruntled conservatives seem to disregard one important fact. We are in a minority situation. The PM must take a middle ground no matter what his beliefs are lest the left pounces. And anyone that takes even a cursory glance at media "stories" can see that the left and their minions in the msm are busy shaping public opinion for the next election. Even Iggy is being made to look "new and improved". We spent over ten years in the political wasteland, don't send us back there by giving the Left and the media fuel to fan the flames. Stories of conservative splits, bickering and "hardcore cons" will not help the Conservative cause in Canada. Show some solidarity now, if after a majority election things don't change, then you can bitch.

And why are we in deficit, seems to me that there was a coup attempt and the coup leaders said, spend spend spend. Too bad the spending didn't go to their pet projects, daycare, abortions in africa and a few other duds. Iggy can't get by saying it is not his fault, his party passed most of the budgets except one. And the Bloc helped pass that one.
And how much did the lib faux scandals cost with all their investigations and committee meetings and flying members back and forth across the country.

Really MaryT? Isn't the "it's the Liberals fault" schtick getting old. IsS HArper a man of principle or is he a wimp who gets pushed around. Do you really think Harper has a hard time saying no to Stephane Dion? Really? Seriously. The largest deficit in Canadian history is the legacy of Harper/flaherty.

You might think Harper is weak and unable to push back against Liberals but you are very unconservative to say that.
