The Liberals In My Life.

The election is over, the Conservatives won a very strong minority in tough economic times, that is important, because usually the party in power gets blamed, it didn't happen this time. Why not? I think PM Harper was correct, Canada has always been conservative, people have just been fooled into thinking they are liberal.

Let me give you three examples of Liberals in my life.

Liberal #1, My Mom and Dad.

Staunch Catholics, Dad was the Grand Knight in his area. They hate abortion, they believe drugs are bad, they think people who stray in their marriage have no morals. Everything they believe in is conservative. Yet they vote Liberal. Why? My Dad got a good civil servant job when Trudeau was in power, he thinks he owes loyalty to the Liberals forever. My Mom told me today that PM Harper had wasted the 12 Billion surplus and now we had no backup.

Liberal #2, My Neighbour.

We have had a neighbourhood barbecue for a few years, for the last two, our MP has shown up to talk to us, and enjoy the evening. Everyone welcomes him, and we all have a great time.

Today my neighbour walked over to discuss our Halloween decorations, (we go all out, pictures will be posted, but don't look in the coffin!!) he finally revealed his political leaning, he's a Liberal. Most important, he revealed he did not vote. As a Liberal, he had no party he could vote for, so he stayed home.

Liberal #3, A Work Mate.

Just before the election was called, he was spouting off about how the Conservatives had run out of steam, they had no good ideas, they had only a 5 point plan and seeing as they had accomplished most of those 5 points, they were now out of ideas. He is one of the most arrogant people I know. He ran for the school council and lost. Last time I saw him, his shoulders were slumped and he was muttering to himself. Another workmate was celebrating the fact that Rahim Jaffer was unemployed when he got married. He even posted it on his facebook site to gloat about it.

These are the Liberals in my life, uncaring, delusional, and most importantly, they refuse to accept they fact that the party they support is old, tired and can't tell you what "liberal values" really are, or how Liberals would make our lives better. But like the little robots they are, they vote Liberal, no thought, no responsibility, no facts required.

I enjoy the Liberals in my life, but they are not grounded in reality. Sorry Mom and Dad, but you are just behind the times, I still love you though.

Your post took courage..I enjoyed reading it. Yes there still is that thinking...that deep seeded thinking...that Liberals are in the family so vote for them no matter what. The world has changed and they may see that but have wrapped up the liberal banner in a bubble...unable to see it for what it is...
Let them look at the performances to come in the House of Commons by the Liberals to perhaps....burst their bubble? We can but hope. I am disappointed that they cannot see a good prime minister when he is on full view and has been for more than two years. Their world is better because of him.

Your parents are delusional? Could explain at lot Hunter....

Your father was fortunate. I lost my job when Trudeau was in power because of his incompetence. We had double-digit unemployment, inflation, and interest rates while he destroyed our country. But, he did make us officially bilingual. Gee, I guess that makes up for it. BTW - I am a bilingual Canadian so the language issue didn't affect me but the principle of the matter sure sucked.

DirtyFilthy.net - your name says it all. I'll bet that no woman allows you near enough to even touch her nose because you're so repulsive.

Southern Quebec - kind of a silly comment you made.

Most of the Liberals I know, or have known, are distinguished by a single trait...they think only of how much they can get out of the government. They want ever larger government programs, yet never think of how it will be paid for. Universal, cheap daycare...they're all for it. Universal prescription drug plans...go for it and the government will worry about the costs. They never look at how these universal programs, once in the hands of glad-handing politicians and self-serving, empire-building bureaucrats, have a history of growing at exponential rates while delivering less and less of the services promised. Our universal health care system is the perfect example. When it was first introduced it was a program designed to protect citizens from the horrendous costs of treating long term, major illnesses. It wasn't intended to be a panacea for everything from hangnails to joint replacement. It now chews up half of all provincial expenditures and continues to grow. Yet the same people who want more of this type of program complain about high taxes and poor service. Liberals believe in the buy now, pay later system of big government. The idea that just maybe they, themselves, should take a little more responsibility for their own welfare is a concept they have long ago abandonded.

To me, many Liberals are not able to think critically; they hold on to some notion that the Liberal party today is the Liberal party of old - the one that governed fiscally instead of socially; they are the ones that believe what the media is telling them instead of finding out if it is true. They loved Trudeau and cling to the notion that if the Liberals get back into power; the world will be like it was 30 years ago.

Slowly but surely; things are turning around and blogs like yours Hunter, help to counter the spin put out by the Liberals and their media cohorts.

It is funny though, how the Liberals in our lives feel it is their right to openly hate Conservatives; to somehow believe that they are the progressive ones even as they are shutting down debate of their beliefs.

Powell, you are all too correct, unfortunately. They're the ones who want "the government" to solve everybody else's problems as long as they are not involved. As an example: I had the "pleasure" of listening to a lefty Lib once rail at me for supporting Mike Harris because he was allegedly wasn't doing enough for homeless people. I asked this lefty Lib how many homeless people he had taken into his own home. I think we all know the answer to that one.

Most of us Conservative supporters are fiscally responsible and giving people. Many of us are people of faith and, in our faith walk, provide service to others - not through money or "programs" but through personal involvement. I have never known a lefty Lib type who does this sort of work.

Alberta Girl: I have found Lib supporters to be sheep-like. Even recently, I was speaking with a family friend who is a true Lib supporter. He suffered under Trudeau's economic disaster and yet he still admires him for his intelligence and competence running the country. And this is somebody whom I consider to be intelligent. To confirm my estimation of the Lib mentality (or lack, thereof), I just have to think of Garth and his supporters. Garth says and his supporters believe it to be gospel. And they call us sheeple - hah.

I checked out dirtyfilthy.net and whoa - what a whack job. The guy is incredibly wierd - and very crude. Where do these people originate? Is there some planet of perverted sickos that we have not discovered? Man, what a sick puppy.

I was talking with one person I work with about the election. She said we vote Liberal (her and her husband). I said good for you for voting but is there any reason why Liberal? Oh were just a Liberal family she said.
I said what do you mean a Liberal family, what part of the Liberal party policies etc. supports this notion that your family is Liberal.
She had absolutly no answer for me but to laugh and say, I don't know.

Zappa - that is typical Liberal supporter mentality. It is unfortunate, but there is no reasoning with them. No matter how low their party sinks and no matter how great Conservative policies are, they just vote Liberal. Easier than thinking, I'd say.

I took a stroll over to the Halton Dude ranch and one Halton resident asked the head dude what he had done for Halton, exactly. One of the head dude's buddies replied with something along the lines of: well if you haven't been paying attention, then we're not going to waste time telling you. In other words, the head dude has done nothing for Halton. If he had, you can bet that he'd be bragging from the rooftops. As it is, all he says is that he's worked for Halton and not the party - with no specifics. As our friend "Gayle" would say: "so, you have nothing".

Dion made his announcement. He is staying on for the meantime. He blames his defeat on Harper - what a baby. But, to be honest, it is Harper's fault - Harper proved that Dion's green shift was nothing but a tax grab and that it was being presented dishonestly. Harper is also much smarter and more decisive AND he can answer questions posed in both languages. Hmmm, it really is Harper's fault, although Dion sees it a bit differently. Check out the Star.
