So, Let's Penalize Big Oil Shall We?

Every opposition party has demonized big oil, Layton even has a candidate who wants to shut the oil sands down. So, I say, okay Alberta, let's do it, just for one week.

Think of the CO2 we would not produce, we would be hero's to the environmental movement, heck let's do it for a month, or a year, that will clean up the smog in Edmonton...oh wait, Edmonton has never had a smog day, and CO2 is not visible. Maybe we should shut down the natural gas sector too, that will help the environment.

Or maybe you should watch this video to understand how much the rest of Canada benefits from big oil. I hope you are watching Layton, Dion, May and Duceppe, you obviously need to get a clue about Alberta.

102 BILLION dollars to Ontario!!! Wonder what even one day without an order from Alberta big oil will do to manufacturing in Ontario and Quebec. You can only slap Alberta around so many times, then Alberta will slap back, and we do have the power behind our punch. Why don't the opposition parties call for the DIRTY auto sector to be shut down, or taxed because of their polluting product? Chickens, hypocrites and union hags, all of them. I am tired of Alberta being the punching bag for the opposition parties. Alberta is always fair game during an election, but what would Ontario do without the 102 Billion from Alberta?

H/T to MaryT, who's comment on Friday lead me to this Rutherford/CPAC piece.

This message has got to get out to Ontario and Quebec voters. Think they will say thank you by voting conservative. Does Dion/Layton know this.
That would be a lot of money to make up, from NFLD, to keep all the social programs going in Quebec if we shut down or left with our marbles.
But Quebec could have its meat dresses (are they from Alberta Beef) and dead rabbits hanging from trees. I don't think I am the only one who say that art displayed in cbc.
Thanks for the h/t

I'm surprise the mainstream media is turning a blind eye to these facts. Why do they act so ignorantly, leaving Canadians to believe that the only side to the oil sands is environmental costs, when indeed it brings so much to our economy and nation.

Thanks for this.

Nathlie - they are not reporting the facts because it doesn't suit their agenda - which is to get the Tories (well specifically Stephen Harper) out of office.

Unfortunately, unless we can find some sympathetic journalist (are there ANY?) to actually report on this, the other opposition parties will have free reign to put negative thoughts in people's minds.

Perhaps it would help sending this video to Chantel Hebert and Andrew Coyne and the economics journalists at the Montreal Gazette and Globe&Mail and regional newspapers and local newspapers across Canada..... huge project, but someone will pick up the torch.

It is on 3 blogs, as of now, and u-tube, so maybe there is hope.
PMSH started to take steps to cushion Canada from what is happening in the worlds financial markets, but the media and opposition scoffed. They ignored or twisted everything that was/is being done. Many canadians listened and started to change their ways, pay down some debt, refused to buy overpriced homes, new cars, spent money on needs instead of wants. We are doing fine.
I think he has hidden the matches from us but Dion/Layton/May are ready to throw matches on a pail of gas.

Notice Dion is still wearing his red sweater today.
Julie Van D was doom and gloom in her voice when she mentioned PMSH announcement tady, very upbeat when she mentioned Dion. Bias, not at all.

Well, all this talk about the financial crisis. I lost my shirt on Nortel, JDS, and Cisco during the Chretien years. Years when tech stocks skyrocketed in value and the they tanked - some because of financial shenanigans, some because of demand. But it seems to be that the Conservatives didn't devote all their energies to calling down Chretien and blaming him. Unfortunately, the Libs have nothing real to offer so they can only resort to slagging Harper.

Think back over this election as to how many times you have seen a whole speech from Stephen Harper - we see bits and pieces then the journalist or the newscaster fills in the rest.

Without the MSM, Canadians have no way to see and hear the PM unless he comes directly to their town/city. And the MSM have the final say as to how something will be portrayed.

I'd say "it's not fair" but there is no way I am going to "plagerize" that statement! HAHA

Just had a chat with my MP, having lunch. I mentioned that a g/son was visiting from Edmonton (laurie's riding) and would not be able to vote He told me that anyone not in their riding or able to get to advance polls to go on line to www.elections.ca to get the form to vote by mail. You must call 1-866-497-8889 before 6.00pm Oct 7 to tell them your intentions.
I intend to pass this message on to a new neighbor from BC.
He was very upbeat and not worried at all about Oct 14, for himself or the conservative government.

AG - I cut Rogers cable back in 1996 so I have not watched TV ever since. For the real story on the political scene, I read Tory blogs. I also read newspapers on-line but I sift through the bias and innuendo to see what the real intent is. It seems to me that television news has become very Americanized - all about scandal and sensationalism, not to mention talking heads pretending to be political experts and voicing their ill-informed and biased opinions without even nodding to fairness. I wish these journalists would stick to the actual facts and keep their personal opinions to themselves. Totally biased. Thanks to blogs like this, I can get the real story.
