How about we just let anyone who comes to Canada automatically get welfare, daycare, EI, OAS and CPP? Did I miss any benefit that Liberals think they are entitled to? Seriously how vote hungry do you have to be to propose this piece of legislation:

OTTAWA - The minority Conservative government is in full opposition mode over a Liberal MP's private member's bill that would allow immigrant seniors to qualify for Old Age Security after spending only three years in the country.

The minority Conservative government is in full opposition? Really? I wonder why? Okay, okay, I know full well why, but I bet most lefties don't understand why, they tend to be dense in the taxpayers money category.

So, let me see, I work from age 16 to whenever I retire and every pay cheque gets all those tax deductions like CPP, and when I retire, I might get told that all that money in CPP, is gone because people who have paid nothing into the pot, have been taking it out faster than I can put it in. Is that about right?

Kind of like the Liberals taking 40 BILLION out of EI to balance their budgets? Okay, I've got it now, pay my taxes and shut up. By the way people who have contributed nothing to Canada should get money from all these socialist funds too, and we should like it. Great idea Ruby!

Under her proposal, Ms. Dhalla said, immigrant seniors who have lived in the country for three years would qualify only for partial OAS benefits of $38.77 a month -- nowhere near the maximum payment of $516.96 a month collected by native or foreign-born residents who have lived here for 40 years.

Drawing on research conducted by the Library of Parliament, Ms. Dhalla estimates 32,000 immigrant seniors would benefit if her proposal was implemented, for a total cost of $300-million a year (BUT COULD NOT SAY HOW SHE REACHED THE NUMBER?? Nope they only say that about Ms. Finley).

Ms. Finley put the cost at $700 million, but could not say how she reached the number.

The math in this article is odd. Ms. Dhalla says that the cash outlay is about 38$/month, yet she also says that the cost for 32,000 people is 300Million$. The latter comes out to about 10,000$ per year by her next estimate (a long way from 38$/month). The conservatives have come up with double the liberal estimate. As a senior tax payer, I'm fed up with all these politicians who cannot do basic math.

So let's see, 38.77 a month times 32,000 immigrants = 1,240,640 a month and therefore 14,887,680 a year. So where does the 300 million a year come from Ruby? More gun registry math? 2 million = 2 billion? 14 million = 300 million and the program hasn't even been implemented. Hang on to your wallets folks if this one goes through!

Ms. Finley's department said later in a statement the $700-million is based on a 2008 estimate by the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions that cutting the qualifying period to three years would add 93,421 beneficiaries to the OAS rolls. Of those, 85,449 would qualify for the Guaranteed Income Supplement for Canada's poorest seniors, as well as a top-up for pensioners who do not receive the full OAS pension.

Oh, the media never disputed Ruby's figures, only the government figures, because Ruby is just so very believable! Kind of like Ignegative out in the wrong field with Kennedy who told us all that only 12% of the stimulus has been spent and the Mayor told them they were just plain WRONG, but the MSM forgot to cover that little tidbit.

Ruby is a typical Liberal, make of that what you will. The MSM is not doing their job, maybe that's why they are suffering from a lack of revenues.

I don't pay much attention to the Hollywood scene, so I had no idea that Patrick Swayze had been married for 33 years when he died at 57. It is truly a rare love story for Hollywood.

We lost another good one. My sympathies to his loving wife, Lisa. Be strong. I wonder is he will come back, as a ghost to comfort her. I hope so.

Looks Like Another Good Week For PM Harper!

As promised, PM Harper gave an economic update today (go to videos at right). All the Liberals could do was cry about him not being in Parliament to do it. Seriously? That's it? That's their big complaint?


Well, I guess you can forgive them because they are busy building bridges in Quebec. Remember those rickety wooden covered bridges built for the horse and carriage days but now used by cars? How safe are they for a big Mac truck to cross? Seems the Liberals have found out. The bridge will crumble and the resulting damage will cause shock waves all the way to Liberal Toronto.

If the Conservatives got slammed in Quebec for shifting arts funding to different organizations, NOT cutting money, and supporting stronger jail times for repeat criminal offenses of juveniles, what can the Liberals expect?

Still Ignegative plugs along, bringing in a no confidence motion, that the NDP will not support. Does either opposition party actually think they are fooling anyone? Seems not:

Typical Liberal supporters. Attacking the PM even before he says anything. No different than Ignatieff who says that the update doesn't matter, he will introduce a motion of non-confidence anyway. These are the updates he (Iggy) asked for, and he doesn't have the decency to even listen to them.I hope we get an election so Iggy and his stooges can lose badly, and he can run off to retire in his villa in France.

Think about how outstanding it is that the Conservatives are still leading the polls, through a recession! Meanwhile the Liberals are fighting out in the open in Quebec, and Toronto, their only two remaining strongholds. Can you smell the desperation of not only the Liberals but the NDP, who are now forced to support the Conservatives in fear of an election. How very weak the opposition is, and it's not going to get better for them anytime soon.

PM Harper was very relaxed today, even joking about not wanting an election, he knows that he can now rule like he has a majority. He can start to let people see that he is actually a very warm and funny person. You do not keep your MP's from revolting by being a dictator, as Ignegative has found out the hard way. So why are the Conservatives so united and the Liberals falling apart? Might it be something called real leadership by PM Harper? I think so. If the opposition votes against the government, I don't think the Conservatives are too worried about an election. HA!

So, sit back with your beer and popcorn and watch the opposition eat their own. Or a bear eating Ignegative! Great job on going green Ignegative!

'State of Calamity' as Philippines Flooding Leaves 106 Dead and Missing

MANILA, Philippines — Philippine officials said Sunday the number of dead and missing from Tropical Storm Ketsana has climbed to at least 106 people. The storm set off the worst flooding in the Philippine capital and nearby provinces in more than 42 years.

Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro said that army troops, police and civilian volunteers rescued more than 5,000 people — many of them nervously clinging to each other on roofs and on top of passenger buses after the storm struck the previous day.

The newly reported deaths included 12 villagers who died in a landslide in northern Pampanga province and nine others in Bulacan province, most of whom died by drowning. Also, an army soldier and four militiamen drowned while trying to rescue villagers in southern Laguna province.

President Barack Obama was closely monitoring the situation from the G-20 economic summit in Pittsburgh, Biden said. After touring the devastation that washed out roads and highways, the vice president visited residents who have been staying at a Red Cross shelter in Cobb County.

Latoya Smith, 28, was in her car when the storms hit, and the mother of five managed to get her children out just before rushing water swept it away.

Smith greeted Biden at the shelter with her 3-year-old daughter Paris and 2-year-old son Lacarlo Clincy in tow. The vice president hugged the family and said help was on the way.

"I'm so glad he came and reassured us that, no matter what the situation is, we're going to be taken care of," Smith said. "I was so concerned but he made me feel like we're blessed, and it's going to be a better day."

Yikes, that lady is seriously clued out. So, where are the eco-nuts in Georgia? Why do we never hear about the environmentalists actually helping people? EVER.

The idea of Harper delivering his own report card is akin to the self-regulation of the financial industry and we all know how that turned out. In my opinion the lib-con deal for these reports usurped the mandate of various independent non-partisan bodies who have the legal and ethical responsibility to parliamentarians for performing this function.

Moammar Gadhafi cancels Canada visit

Libyan Leader Moammar Gadhafi has cancelled a trip to Canada that had been scheduled for next week, according to media reports.

Gadhafi had planned the stop-over in St. John's, N.L., on his way home from his speech to the United Nations General Assembly last Wednesday, a wide-ranging rant that lasted more than 90 minutes.

The Canadian Press says the African strongman was planning to stay in the city early next week, and local officials were prepping to put up one of the leader's famed Bedouin tents.

Hey, Gadhafi, come pitch your tent in February, that would be fun.

Why did Gadhafi want to stop over in Newfoundland? Why is Danny, big mouth so silent now? Not one press release from Danny about the visit. No ranting from him about terrorists. Not a single word from the egomaniac who loves to get face time on TV.

Newfoundland and Labrador government officials say no one from the province will welcome Gadhafi.

"We don't have any comment, and no provincial officials will be meeting with him," an official in Premier Danny William's office told CBC News on Thursday.

A woman and a man are involved in a car accident on a snowy, cold Monday morning; it's a bad one. Both of their cars are totally demolished, but amazingly neither of them is hurt. God works in mysterious ways.

After they crawl out of their cars, the man is yelling about women drivers.

The woman says, 'So, you're a man. That's interesting. I'm a woman. Wow, just look at our cars! There's nothing left, but we're unhurt. This must be a sign from God that we should be friends and live in peace for the rest of our days.'

Flattered, the man replies, 'Oh yes, I agree completely, this must be a sign from God! But you're still at fault...women shouldn't be allowed to drive.'

Women Speak Out!

I'm not sure why any sane man would want more than one wife, but I guess the key word is "sane". (yes, I'm making light of a very serious subject because I can't imagine my husband being able to handle any wife but me, nor does he want to. Could he really love 20 other women? HA!)

It's easy to shrug, and say it doesn't concern you, but it's not that easy for the women and children that are affected.

Women Speak Out Against Polygamy

A woman who grew up in a polygamous family and lived for 28 years in a polygamous marriage says she’s shocked and saddened to learn Canada has quashed an opportunity to put polygamy on trial.

“If something isn’t done, women will keep on being abused and coerced into living lives that they don’t want to [live],” said Irene Spencer in a telephone interview from her home in Lodi, California. “It breaks my heart because I’ve been there.”

Taught to believe that polygamy was not only expected — but required — to receive the rewards of heaven, in 1953, she married Verlan LeBaron, a man who was already married to her half-sister. She was 16 on her wedding day. Spencer would go on to have 13 children with LeBaron, and to see him take another eight wives. She describes her life at the time as one of poverty, drudgery and despair.

“Girls are denied education. Many girls married at 14 and 15. The men always say ‘marry them young so you can train them.’ They’re told all they need to know is how to keep house and raise children, so it makes it impossible for women to move into the outside world. They can’t leave the family because they don’t have the skills to survive on their own. The men make the rules.”

Told of the September 23 ruling, Spencer said Canada has lost an important opportunity to ensure equality for all, no matter their age or gender. “Religion has no right to cover up abuse,” she said. “Abuse hidden under the guise of religion is absolutely wrong.”

Other fringe sects and some fundamentalist Muslims also engage in polygamous marriage. But according to Farzana Hassan, president of the Muslim Canadian Congress, polygamous marriage is an “oppressive institution.”

“It’s all about dominance, control and power structures,” she says, noting that “extremely young” Muslim women have been imported to Canada for the purpose of becoming polygamous wives. “I’m not even sure that their consent counts in such cases,” Hassan said.

“Freedom of religion has to be seen within the larger human rights issue. And if human rights are being trumped by a religious practice, then that’s not acceptable.”

I think that pretty much says it all.

A door was opened to polygamy when the definition of marriage was changed. The Liberals told us that polygamy would not be made legal because of the changes in the rules. Any thinking person understood that the lefties were lying. If one man and one woman can be changed to one man and one man, or one woman and one woman, what logical argument can be used against one man and 20 women, or one woman and 20 men? How can you deny them the same rights and freedoms under our glorious charter of rights and freedoms? Why did the judge throw out the case? Supposedly for some kind of interference but in actuality, the courts could not rule that polygamy is illegal, if gay marriage isn't. They would have to rule that polygamy should be made legal, so to protect the lefties, they found some pithy reason to throw the case out.

Now two adults of any combination wanting to get married is good because you are committing to that one individual out of love. Can one man love 20 women? He might love the powerful feeling of being in charge and a kind of god or ruler, but he can not seriously love all 20 women. He is the lone wolf on the fringe of society, a flea of a person who rules by intimidation. They are fringe dwellers and they force "their" women and children to be marginalized in society.

As a woman, I am horrified by even the thought of young girls being married off to some 60 year old man at the age of 15 or 16. If a 60 year old guy raped a 16 year old girl, that guy would be put in jail, he would be considered a pervert, but if he marries her, it's okay? There is a thin line in polygamist communities, and our legal system is failing to protect those young girls.

Imagine growing up in a tightly monitored community where you are expected to obey your father, and you have been told, that 10+ wives are normal, from the day you could talk. This is a CULT, not a religion. If it is a religion, it needs to change. These guys are like Charles Manson, without the violence to outsiders. They are controllers.

Unfortunately, the ones being hurt are the women and children. It is unhealthy and must not be condoned.

So, I go to CTV to see coverage on the UN protest, and they have their own reporters spouting their view points, and some "experts" and Ignegative on video but strangely no video of the PM speaking from Tim Horton's. Could it be that PM Harper gave a very strong response to I'mgoingtokillyouwesteners? Too bad CTV still doesn't realize that youtube exists. Their bias makes me sick! They give Ignegative over 4 minutes of time but not one minute of coverage of our Prime Minister, not even a second of his speech. World looks to China at climate summit

The United Nations says China has taken the lead in tackling climate change, but Canadian Environment Minister Jim Prentice says the Chinese government has yet to set firm goals for cutting greenhouse gas emissions.

Chinese President Hu Jintao pledged at the UN Climate Change Summit in New York that his country would plant enough trees to cover an area the size of Norway, cut its dependence on non-renewable energy, and reduce its carbon pollution.

How many Norways does Canada, with it's thick woods, comprise? We drive for 10 hours between Edmonton Alberta and Kelowna BC seeing only trees, with the occasional small town. But, China is leading the way? Give me a break, the lefties are fawning all over Communist China, for planting a few trees?? Their population is in the BILLIONS, but a few trees should do it!

In the great public policy battle between global economic growth and global climate change, the G20 is going for growth. And if growth trumps climate at the G20, that spells the end of any hope of a major climate agreement in Copenhagen in December.

Yikes, that isn't going to be very popular. Growth before eco-nuttery? That is just not politically viable, unless you are a lefty. We are told by the ultra lefty UN that we need to send massive amounts of funds to underdeveloped countries so that their dictators can fill their Swiss bank accounts, and climate change is the issue that makes everybody think they are protecting the planet? The people of Africa need those funds...too bad their dictators will never let them see a cent of that money.

Sending aid to countries has not improved their situations. The UN insists that more aid in the form of global warming money will help them "come out of the dark", too bad, the people who really need the aid do not see it.

I am happy that PM Harper avoided the eco-love fest today. Let Obama carry the weight of environmentalism, he has already stated that energy costs will go up, dramatically, and he doesn't seem to have a problem with that, so go green Obama, lead us. HA!

When all is said and done, it is the worlds politicians who are trying to lead us down the socialist path, and I thank China and India for standing up against the eco-nuts, who want to bring world rule to the west. To PM Harper, thank you for staying away from the "global warming" issue, most Conservatives, especially those who work the land, understand that it is a huge wealth transfer from the productive to the unproductive countries.

I can only look down to the US and wonder what damage Obama is doing to Americans. Hope and Change or Rope and Chains?

Obama has rejected the Pentagon's first draft of the "nuclear posture review" as being too timid, and has called for a range of more far-reaching options consistent with his goal of eventually abolishing nuclear weapons altogether, according to European officials.

The review is due to be completed by the end of this year, and European officials say the outcome is not yet clear. But one official said: "Obama is now driving this process. He is saying these are the president's weapons, and he wants to look again at the doctrine and their role."

I Say Tomato! Make it Tomato Sauce!

Are those tomato plants giving you way too many tomatoes to eat? Don't want to waste them? Well let's be environmentally friendly then, let's turn them into pasta sauce!

I spent the day making pasta sauce and pickling my few cucumbers, so I have no idea if an election has been somehow called, or if Liberals are now proud of our flag, even though Ignegative thinks it looks like a beer label. Tonight I want to save those of you with tomatoes ripening and no time to eat them all.

Here is a fast (no peeling off skins) recipe for pasta sauce that you freeze.

Cut tomatoes (Roma work best) in half, get rid of the seeds with a melon ball. Lay them on a cookie sheet liberally basted with olive oil. Then throw on onions, green pepper, garlic and anything else you want, I add seasoning salt, Watkins Italian seasoning and a bit of sugar, cut everything in big chunks, no need to chop stuff finely, we are going to blend it up.


Throw in oven for 50 minutes at 350 or until slightly burnt on edges...adds to the roasted flavour. Cool and then blend. Pour into sandwich bags and freeze.

During the winter, take the pasta sauce out, add a can of tomato sauce and you can feed 4 people.

Next I did pickles. Sterilize jars, you can do that in your dishwasher, but I still do it the old fashioned way and use a canner. Once jars are sterilized, throw in garlic, dill, half a teaspoon of pickling spices, and a hot pepper. Fill jars with cucumbers, and then pour boiling brine into jar, filling them to the top. Seal tightly and let cool. Move them to a cold room, they will last for a year.

Brine:

12 cups water
4 cups vinegar
3/4 cup pickling salt

Boil for 3 minutes.



Unfortunately, the cold summer meant that I only got 8 jars of pickles instead of the 40 to 50 I usually get. Dang that global warming. I wonder if Lissy May has any recipes like these?

Next week pickled beets and if it's bad weather... perogies or cinnamon buns. Iggy should like the perogy recipe, didn't he grow up on them? I bet he would like my sauerkraut ones.

Cop Killer Gets Parole!

Edmonton police officer Ezio Faraone, (pictured above) was killed in the line of duty by two punks who had just robbed a bank.

I remember it clearly even now, it shocked all of Edmonton. It was total cold blooded murder. Now one of the thugs, has been released. Even Stelmach came out strongly against the National Parole Board of Canada's decision, and that's saying something.

Stelmach slams release

A man convicted in the 1990 killing of Edmonton Const. Ezio Faraone should be jailed for the rest of his life, says Premier Ed Stelmach.

Stelmach made the comments after 46-year-old Albert Foulston was granted statutory release yesterday to an Edmonton halfway house.

"He killed a police officer and he should stay in jail forever," a visibly upset Stelmach told reporters yesterday after being asked about the case.

"It was cold-blooded."

Faraone, 33, had cornered both Foulston and Jerry Crews after an Edmonton bank robbery. Foulston -- who was on parole at the time -- put up his hands in surrender but Crews blasted the officer with a sawed-off shotgun, killing him on the spot.

The head of the Edmonton Police Association lauded the premier for his comments.

"That's the mindset that is shared by the rank and file and all of the members of the police association and, I suspect, the majority of the public as well," said association president Sgt. Tony Simioni.

He was just about released in 2004, but even he knew it was not in his best interests to be openly let out. Here is a very comprehensive report on Foulston:

Foulston had nearly fifty convictions when Constable Ezio Faraone was murdered. He was on parole at the time, clearly demonstrating he couldn’t give a fig for the rules of a civilized society. After fourteen years in jail he has over 100 violations on his institutional record and has spent much of his time in segregation because of his behaviour.

He’s a heroin junkie and has been consistently involved in the drug culture while in prison. He has constantly and consistently breached the rules of prison while there and every time he has be out on escorted or unescorted temporary absences. He’s been back and forth between medium and minimum security prisons because every time he is given a little more freedom he reverts to using heroin. The use of which, I might add, raises the likelihood of him re-offending violently.

He is a career criminal who has spent most of his adult life in jail. When out on parole, he consistently re-offends until he is caught again. He was first sentenced to prison for an armed robbery in 1980, ten years before he and Crews robbed the bank on the day they ended the life of Constable Ezio Faraone.

There is absolutely no reason to believe Foulston will not re-offend. The last time he was on parole, he robbed a bank and was involved in the killing of a cop. What can we expect for an encore?

So, why did the National Parole Board release him? Even after this:

In a rare move, Edmonton's chief of police wrote to the National Parole Board recently asking that Foulston not be allowed out.

Chief Mike Boyd wrote that news of the con's imminent release "brought alarm and serious concern not only from members of the Edmonton Police Service, but from the citizens in the community we serve."

Even the parole board's own documents called Foulston "a high-risk, high-needs offender" with a "resentment towards persons in authority."

"Overall benefit of your lengthy incarceration has been minimal," the documents state. "A number of prior release attempts have resulted in failure, both in the form of relapse, and with serious reoffending."

Officials had earlier indicated Foulston was to be released tomorrow, but he was quietly released yesterday.

I want the National Parole Board to speak to us, tell us why they thought it was safe to release him into society, when it has never worked before. I want to hear these people:

P.E.I. Drunk, you just gotta love it!!!!

Recently, during a routine patrol, an RCMP patrolman parked down the street outside a Legion Hall just off the main Street in Charlottetown .. PEI .

After last call, the officer observed a man leaving the Legion Hall. The gentleman was so intoxicated that he could barely walk. He then stumbled around the parking lot for a few minutes, with the officer quietly observing. After what seemed an eternity and trying his keys on five different vehicles, the man managed to find his car, which he fell into.

He sat there for a few minutes and then threw a hook and line out the window and seemed to be trying to catch a fish.. A number of other patrons paid no attention to this crazy drunk as they left the bar and drove off.

Finally the drunk started the car, switched the wipers on and off (it was a fine, dry summer night) flicked the blinkers on and off a couple of times, honked the horn, and switched on the headlights.

He then pulled in the hook and line and moved the vehicle forward a few inches, reversed a little and then remained still for a few more minutes as some more of the other patron vehicles left. At last, the parking lot was empty; he pulled out of the parking lot and started to drive slowly down the road.

The officer, having patiently waited all this time, now started up the patrol car, put on the flashing lights, and promptly pulled the man over. He performed a breathalyzer test on the gentleman who cooperated fully, and to his amazement the breathalyzer indicated no evidence of the man having consumed any alcohol at all!

Dumbfounded, the officer said, 'I'll have to ask you to accompany me to Headquarters.
This breathalyzer equipment must be broken."
"I doubt it," said the truly proud Prince Edward Islander

The Jesusita Fire in Santa Barbara, CA last week caused these two to take shelter together. The fawn is 3 days old and the bobcat about 3 weeks. The fawn came from somewhere in the fire and the bobcat from Carpentaria. They immediately bonded and snuggled together under a desk in the Santa Barbara County Dispatch Office for several hours.

An extremely alert reader is reporting that Animal Planet is reporting the bobcat kitten was rescued near Arnold Schwarzeneggers ranch, where it was dehydrated and near death.
They rescued the fawn during last weeks wildfire. Although wild animals, especially of separate species, are never placed together due to regulations, in this emergency situation, they had no choice. During the mayhem of the fire, they were forced to put animals anywhere they could, since they had run out of crates large enough for the fawn. The kitten ran to the fawn, and it was instant bonding.

Kill Knut? The Twisted Logic of Animal Rights Extremists

Animal rights activists, as SPIEGEL reported Monday, aren't so enthralled with the polar bear baby. They are concerned that Knut, who is being raised by human hand after his mother rejected him, is in danger of losing touch with the bear necessities. Some would like to see him dead.

Why?

"Raising him by hand is not appropriate to the species but rather a blatant violation of animal welfare laws," animal rights activist Frank Albrecht told the mass circulation newspaper Bild, whose front page headline Monday read "Will Sweet Knut Be Killed by Injection?"

Berlin Zoo is allowing Knut to be raised in such a way that the bear will have a behavioral disorder for the rest of his life, Albrecht believes. "In actual fact, the zoo needs to kill the bear cub," he adds.

He's not alone. Wolfram Graf-Rudolf, director of the Aachen Zoo, told the newspaper, "I don't consider it appropriate for the species that the little polar bear is being raised on a bottle." The animal will be fixated on his keeper and not be a "real" polar bear, he says. However he feels it is now too late to put Knut out of his supposed misery. "The mistake has been made. One should have had the courage to put him to sleep much earlier."

So kill the baby polar bear. Funny Bobby Barker claims our harsh winters are bad for Lucy, so maybe ALL zoos with polar bears should return them to Canada, or as some wacky eco-nut has suggested bring the polar bears to the Antarctic so they can feed on penguins. Oh, but PETA saves animals, so we should listen to them:

Bob Barker can't convince Edmonton to move elephant

Earlier this week, the zoo released an expert report that concluded a move would endanger the 34-year-old elephant's life.

Dr. James Oosterhuis, a veterinary consultant in San Diego, examined Lucy and issued a letter to the zoo explaining how the elephant is having breathing issues.

"Her current respiratory problems preclude any thought of moving her and in fact, it would be life threatening," wrote Oosterhuis. "It is my opinion that it would be unethical for any veterinarian to recommend moving her."

Zoo manager Linda Cochrane said it appeared they simply agreed to disagree with Barker and the two animal experts who joined him at the meeting.

"We're responsible for this elephant," said Cochrane. "We've had her here for 32 years and we just want to do what's in her best interests."

I think Bob Barker should be put into a retirement home. After all, he would be much happier there than with his friends in the TV world. Wouldn't he? Yeah, that's what should be done. He is old, and can't think for himself, so he should be in a retirement home. Let's send him to one, so he can live out the rest of his life in comfort. I suppose it should be somewhere warm, so he won't be cold. How about Bangladesh?

The eco-nuts will not listen, they don't think killing thousands of dogs and cats is bad, but one happy well cared for elephant in Edmonton is a means to increasing donations, and don't let them fool you, it's all about money. REALLY? We might offend some communists? Yikes, we better not, it wouldn't be politically correct....

"I was unsettled by this name, and other members of the committee agreed with me," Hélène Grand-Maître, one commission member, said at the public approval hearing. "We should make sure that we are politically correct in this designation.... I feel this name should be changed." (I feel... great rationalization of your point.)

Board member Adel Ayad noted that people who identify as communists might "not like" the memorial. "It's not communism itself that we should be fighting here. It is rather totalitarianism we are against in any form."

Their solution?

Perhaps, suggested another, the best route would be to be avoid specifics, strike "communism" from the proposed name altogether, and dedicate the memorial to "victims of oppressive regimes," so as not to single any particular ideologies out.

Already the group has had to make compromises. Earlier this year, it altered the proposed name, from a memorial to the "victims of communism," to one for the "victims of totalitarian communism." Though you'd look awfully hard to find any another kind, the NCC suggested that incriminating communism as a general ideology might be "unduly critical" of Canadians who still carry a torch for Karl Marx.

Oh, so that makes it better, let's call it "totalitarian communism", or better yet get rid of the term "communism" altogether. I get it now, so when I blog about Islam making women slaves, that is unacceptable, but if I blog about RADICAL Islam making women slaves, that is now politically acceptable and therefore okay. Or maybe I should call it radical oppressive regimes that treat their women like slaves. Ooops bet I can't use the word slaves.

CHECK. This politically acceptable thingy is hard to grasp because it is your typical liberal thinking, but I think I have it now.

Tisk, tisk, you should have said, ALLEGED communism and ALLEGED Nazi party. Like the British allegedly won on the Plains of Abraham. Oh, oh, now I've offended the province of Quebec.

So when my neighbour, who was in a refugee camp for a year before coming to Canada, talks about her life under the communist regime, she should also be politically correct when talking about the alleged communists who made her and her families life a LIVING HELL!

Right I get it now. She didn't really suffer anything in her life and if she did, it was not because of alleged communism. It wouldn't be politically correct for her to mention it, because it might offend an actual communist.

Okay, to the editor....Obama is NOT visiting the oilsands. Maybe he should, because China is looking good right now! At least they didn't call them the tarsands.

Two dozen Greenpeace members from Canada, the United States and France chained themselves to giant earth-moving equipment, shutting down Shell’s massive Albian Sands oilsands mine in northwestern Alberta for several hours.

24 people from Canada, the US and France???? 24??? Wow that makes the 1.2 million people protesting in Washington look like small potatoes.

Now, let's contrast that to this:

Victims of crime group may be forced to shut down

The Ottawa-based Canadian Resource Centre for Victims of Crime, which has been a national voice for victims of violence, fraud and abuse since 1992, has been told the cash-strapped Canadian Police Association is pulling its funding within weeks.

Executive director Heidi Illingworth sent a letter to supporters Tuesday warning of the risk of closure and calling on the federal government to pick up the unexpected shortfall.

Calling him a “personal supporter” of the CRCVC, Illingworth also wrote to Prime Minister Stephen Harper requesting funding that amounts to roughly the same cost as the incarceration of a single federal prisoner for one year.

So who funds the eco-nuts? How can they fly to Alberta in the "dozens" and yet a group helping the Victims of Crime need only $50,000 to $100,000 to keep helping victims and they might not be able to get it? Alberta should take some of the 2 Billion it is shoveling into the useless carbon capture scheme and help victims of crime instead.

It's time to help REAL charities, who are helping REAL people in need. Not the eco-nuts. Can you hear this Albertans? Canadians? Is our government going to listen? If they can bail out GM, they can temporarily help CRCVC, but only until Canadians take up their cause.

I admit that I am not familiar with CRCVC, but it sure seems like a great cause.
It has to be better than the eco-nuts who chain themselves to anything to get attention, but do nothing to actually help anyone.
