Head For The Caves!

The planet is dying and we are killing it! Panic people! Head for the caves!

Okay, now that all the lefties are busy packing their survival kits, minus those nasty guns, what do most of us really think?

TORONTO -- More than half of Canadians believe greenhouse gases produced by human activity are a key factor spurring climate change, and they say the planet is in peril if significant action isn't taken soon.

Well, let's look at the question that was asked before we panic.

Which of the following statements best reflects your view on the urgency of action on climate change?

16% Climate change is a natural occurrence and not significantly impacted by human behaviour, and spending time and money on the issue is largely a waste

53% Human-induced generation of greenhouse gases is a key driver of climate change and without immediate and significant action, the planet as we know it is in peril

25% The debate on Climate Change has confused me, and while I think humans have an impact on climate, I am not sure how serious the problem is

Human induced, planet is in peril

Atlantic 49%

Quebec 69%

Ontario 51%

Man./Sask. 37%

Alberta 40%

B.C. 51%

Looking at the regional results only Quebec 69%(given the margin of error) thinks the planet is in peril. The rest of us are not so sure, especially the prairies. Even greenie BC is only at 51%. Now also look at Quebec's response to this question:

As Canada embarks on a new decade, which of the following do you feel presents the biggest threat to our country?

11% Foreign or domestic terrorism and wars

37% Environment and climate change dangers

49% Economic and employment problems

Results:

Economic/employment problems

Atlantic 49%

Quebec 38%

Ontario 53%

Man./Sask. 50%

Alberta 53%

B.C. 54%

Again Quebec is out of step with the rest of Canada. Funny how they are not at all concerned about the economy/employment problems, but the rest of us are, it was our first pick. Could it be that Quebec is so sure that the equalization payments from the rest of Canada are going to keep on coming that they have no worries about jobs? What if they were told that equalization payments can't be made because Ontario and Alberta are broke? Or that hydro is dirtier than the oilsands and will be charged carbon credits at a higher rate and that Saskatchewan is getting the carbon credit exchange not Quebec? I wonder what would happen then, would they have to eliminate their $7 a day daycare that even the richest provinces can't afford? Could they give up their socialist/separatist dreams?

Here are the results, so far, of the on-line poll that is right beside the article:

Now 53% polled think it is not a problem. So much for statistics. A different question yields a different result, it's all in how you word it.

Here's another interesting online poll (now closed):

Wow, 70% think Harper will still be the Prime Minister next year. Now that is worth an article all by itself!

Do you really think you are qualified to be doing this type of analysis?

Your poll would be a little more "honest" if you said where it came from...they could be all your relatives...

Ah, the resident sissy and welfare case from (where else?) Quebec chimes in to sob about Hunter not being fair!

According to Hunter's most recent poll (as of the time of my posting 7:15 pacific) 100% of the respondents are NEGATIVE to the polling questions ... BUT ... now that I say Hunter is "right on" and is qualified to post the results that number is now 50% in FAVOUR.

EsQue does a drive buy!!

SQ - I'd love to see you start your own blog. You seem to spend a great deal of time criticising Hunter. You rarely discuss the actual issue but you seem to take great delight in dissing Hunter one way or another - I'll admit that you're being less crude and more careful but you're still adding only a negative influence which, I can assure you, makes those of us who are serious about discussing the issues all that much more in Hunter's corner. Considering that you don't have your own blog, you're hardly in a position to criticize our host.

I do feel sorry for you - it is becoming very evident that you are unhappy and negative but, your lack of happiness should not be imposed on others which is what you are doing here.

That is the difference between conservatives and liberals. We take care of our own lives. Liberals, like yourself, like to spread the misery around rather than helping yourselves.

E: I am a happy little camper here in Quebec. I don't know why you would think otherwise. I don't need any government help. And it's probably a good thing with the Cons in power. My point in coming here comes from the fact that Hunter is in way over her head, and is completely oblivious to it. I find it entertaining...sorry.

Oh, I do have my own blog -- it's just not about politics.

To bad these chilly nor'westers don't blow through Quebec.

Good stuff, Hunter. This provides yet more confirmation of some well-known facts:
1) the West, especially the Prairies, is populated with practical, common sense, not easily bamboozled folks;
2) Quebec is chock-a-block with wing-nuts from way out in LEFT field (in the next referendum please give the rest of us a vote);
3) BC has a mixed bag of eco-loons offset by people who moved here from the Prairies.

Way off topic, but John Hopkin's has just released a new study,
SMOKERS WHO QUIT HAVE A HIGHER RISK OF TYPE 2 DIABETES.
