Relax Folks, It's Only Weather!

We have had it pounded into our heads that "weather" is not "climate" and that the "issue of climate change is settled", so I'm just going to show you the weather, and let you make up your own minds.

HALIFAX -- A storm descended on Eastern Canada on Saturday, with heavy snowfall, high winds and freezing rain expected to sweep across parts of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick.

A low-pressure system south of Halifax was causing the nasty weather. In southwestern Nova Scotia, snow was falling Saturday, while some regions were being pelted with freezing rain and ice pellets. The province was expected to see as much as 30 millimetres of precipitation, Environment Canada predicted.

Winds were also expected to whip the province, including gusts reaching 160 kilometres an hour in the Cape Breton highlands.

Winds of 160 kilometres per hour, ouch, stay safe Atlantic Canada. Thankfully Canada is used to winter weather, it doesn't make it any better to be freezing on the prairies, or digging out from massive snowfalls, but we Canadians are a hearty bunch, and we have the clothing to help us survive. Not so in other countries.

New Delhi - At least 17 people died as towns and cities in India's northern states were hit by cold weather, officials said on Friday.

A five-day-long heavy snowfall caused27 weather-related deaths, the Ukrainian Health Ministry's press service said in a statement on Monday.

More than 80 people have died across Europe as days of snow storms and sub-zero temperatures swept the continent, causing traffic chaos for millions.

At least 42 people have frozen to death in Poland over the last three days and another 27 in Ukraine.

Another 13 people died in car accidents in Austria, Finland and Germany, where temperatures fell to -33C (-27F).

From GayandRight: A freezing cold front swept over much of northern China on Sunday with snowstorms snarling traffic and air travel, while some of the coldest temperatures in decades were forecast for coming days.

WINNIPEG - Poorly dressed for the weather and impaired by some kind of intoxicant, a man and woman sat exposed to the cold in a bus shelter for up to 10 hours before someone notified emergency personnel.

By then, it was too late. The 31-year-old woman was dead and the conscious 43-year-old man, whose body temperature was low, was in need of immediate medical care, police said.

Is that enough weather for you? Or do we call it climate change? Or is all weather now climate change? It's getting confusing for the average non-scientist. Now about these weather events? Are they climate change or weather?

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Rescue crews on Saturday intensified the search for victims at a plush Brazilian beach resort ravaged by mudslides and flooding that have killed at least 64 people in three states.

Firefighters waded through mountains of mud and sifted through the remains of a lodge and homes that were destroyed in the early hours of Friday when a hillside collapsed in the luxury beach resort of Angra dos Reis, removing 35 bodies, authorities said.

The volcano's crater grew as it emitted lava on Tuesday. The Philippine government's vulcanologists said on Sunday that there could be a large explosion soon as magma swells inside and around the volcano's cone.

It's all too political now. Which leads me to this excellent video: We Didn't Start The Fire....

When is weather climate and climate weather? All I know is that it's been pretty cold, not just here in Canada, but worldwide, so is that global cooling?

You "forgot" to mention the droughts and fires in Australia. And yes, Hunter, there is a difference between weather and climate. It's just that you are unable to see the difference.

On Monday, my nephew returns to university in New Brunswick with this wicked weather to contend with. He also has to endure all the security hype as a result of a misguided youth who wanted martrydom. Global warming is a crock and Muslim jihad is not a peaceful expression of political dissent. Cheers.

It's settled! Earth is getting colder!

Australia always has droughts and fires - that is nothing new. In fact, for the eucalyptus forests to survive, they have to burn down at regular intervals. Try another example, SQ. The Australia example just doesn't fly.

Please EsQue, explain the difference. Don't forget to discuss temperature measurement, cloud formation, rotation of the earth, influence of the sun and moon etc.

Was Canada once covered by glaciers? I assume it was "man" who warmed up the Northern Hemisphere and melted them.

Did you get a new hockey stick for Christmas? Where have You hidden the decline?

Very simple: we just have wider world-wide news coverage. Remember when Whitehorse and Iqaluit were not on the national weather map 10 years ago? As well, we have many global warmy news people looking desperately for within-the-norms "extreme weather" ANYWHERE to prove that, even if the globe is not warming, the weather is more "extreme". CNN makes millions from having their wind-blown reporters perched on dangerous-looking cliffs, shores and active weather sites. It is all in support of the Algore Kool-aid. In the 70's, it was "the ice age is coming!!!!", even while my husband's first McJob was fighting BC forest fires, which hardly even made the news in Calgary.
