The Canadian Press: Grabbing At Straws!

Now the media is getting desperate to dig up dirt on the Conservatives. Notice how CTV doesn't allow comments of this little article? Maybe because they know voters would laugh at the whole article. I know I did.

Tories opened patronage doors before election: CP

OTTAWA -- The Harper government approved 148 appointments to federal boards and agencies, long used as rewards for supporters of the party in power, as the election neared, The Canadian Press has learned.

Cabinet handed out the posts in three rounds, the first only two days before Parliament recessed for the summer, the second on July 30, at peak holiday time for politicians and political journalists, and the third less than a week before Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced the election for Oct. 14.

Wow, it's a scandal! The government appointed some people to boards. "long used as rewards"....ahem, that would be the Liberals that have used it for rewards. Where is the proof that the Conservatives have done that?? Who is this "Canadian Press" guy, he sure gets around, too scared to use your real name mister "Canadian Press"?

Harper, who railed against Liberal patronage in the 2006 election, later failed to deliver on a campaign pledge to put an independent commission in charge of vetting cabinet appointments. He angrily shelved the idea after opposition MPs refused to ratify his nomination of Gwyn Morgan, a Calgary oil baron who is also a friend of the prime minister, as the commission chair.

Right, thanks for reminding all of us how the opposition treated one of Canada's most respected businessmen. No mention that he was willing to do that job for $1. That was not the oppositions best moment, they let their own far left-wing agenda cheat Canada out of an excellent commissioner.

It's difficult to determine exactly how many of the recent appointments went to members of the federal Conservative party or to provincial Progressive Conservative parties.

Mister "Canadian Press" was only able to track down 8 out 148 who had, or might have voted Conservative, which seems to be some sort of crime. So are the Conservatives only allowed to appoint lefties? Are lefties tired of being away from the trough?

It appears that the only good appointment is a Liberal appointment to mister "Canadian Press". Suck it up princess, Liberals are not the government anymore! Thank goodness!

Ah - one of the Stephen Harper Hating Canadian press.

You are right Hunter - they are desperate. Watching Mike Duffy is painful - all Liberal, all the time.

Even yesterday when Stephen Harper was reacting to the Stock Market collapse; the after talk immediately turned to Stephen Dion and how he should have been out there and then to how he is doing on the campaign trail. Probably on of the most important times to actually hear the PM speak and they get back to talking about Dion.

Well, our friend Milton certainly wrote quite the blog today. Harper knew about the financial crisis to come - duh, who didn't? Anyway, of course, given that Harper and Bush are glued together, our country will certainly go down the tubes. Of course, if we had a Liberal government, we'd be in fine shape - after all, families will be better off financially with the carbon tax on everything. Sorry to sound silly, but I'm so tired of this BS.

East of Eden - who is Milton? I would like to pay a visit to read that article/post!

Oooohhh - that Milton!!!

Thanks E of E! I am going to head over there now.

Just a comment before I go - hasn't Stephen Harper been warning of this coming for months now?

Time to dig out Iggy's speeches and papers declaring his die hard support of the war in Iraq.
he was 100% behind the Iraq invasion, but then when Iggy ran fro the Libs, he had to reverse his position.

Good one...or when Dion said we should invade Pakistan? Maybe there should be some old clip run on Bob Rae when he destroyed the Ontario econemy while we are at it?

Alberta Girl - yes, Stephen Harper has mentioned it for a while. But, you know how Milton makes everything about Harper seem bad. I just shake my head.

Haven't seen Gayle for a day or so. I wonder if my double-dog dare to her worked. For those of you who don't know, I double-dog dared her to NOT try to get in the last word.

Garth and his minions are off their rockers.

One called nomoreatory actually intimated that the Conservatives caused this.

I am getting sick and tired of the outright lies being printed about the Conservative government - both on blogs like Garth's and by our so called Canadian Press.

The phantom observer has a post today about one of our journalists bemoaning the fact that hollywood has created the negativity towards journalists.

Hate to break it to them; but they have done it themselves by concentrating on smears and psuedo scandals instead of writing about - um - NEWS!!

Alberta Girl: I know what you mean about the lies. But, to be honest, it seems to be working for Harper instead of against him. I doubt if most people take Milton all that seriously - he has been saying the same things for over 2 years now and I believe that most intelligent people have seen through all of it. I no longer read the comments as they are always the same. Thank God for sites like this and others which expose the lies.

As for journalists - hah! They are biased liars who have a talent for twisting the facts to suit their own agenda.

CTV is all over this plagarism story like white on rice. In very serious tones their talking heads tell us that they will wait and see how this story will play out.
With people watching the stock market tumble, worrying about their jobs and keeping their homes, and wondering if their pensions will suffer, I can tell you how it will play out. A big HUH. This thing will be gone before the day is over. If this is the best the Liberal's star communicator, Bob Rae, can come up with then their party is in very serious trouble. My reaction probably reflects that of most Canadians...who gives a sh..!

Well, that was interesting. I just read some of the comments on our friend Milton's blog - holy moley. I am speechless.

Bob Rae has "outed" Harper for having used a speech, 5 years ago, similar to that used by John Howard. Big news in the Star. One commenter summed it up nicely:

I am a HUGE anti-Harper person but come on...this is starting to look pathetic on the Liberals part... In grade 4 he was caught running with scissors - do you want this man to run your country??!!haha.

The Liberals are so pathetic. As one commenter wrote: I'm sure Harper had a beer at one time. Will Dion now call him an alcoholic?

The desperation is so vivid - if this is the best that Bob Rae can do, then it has reached the level of completely pathetic.

TSX is rebounding - softly, but it is rebounding. Now, what is all this about Harper ruining the country?

When was the speech given, in 2003.
Was there not an election in 2004 and 2006. It wasn't important then and is not important now. If this doesn't tell voters that PMSH needs a majority to stop all these smears nothing will.
Let's have the clip of Dion invading Pakistan, or the Norway invasion-or the theft of Suzuki's plan, or how Rae ruined Ont.
Must be lots of dirt to go around. what a bunch of pathetic newsmen and liberals.
There is a statue of limitations on some crimes, we need a statue of limitations on statements made in the last century, or HofC from one election to another.
