NOT Dysfunctional? Are You Kidding ME??

Way back in March, I posted a Youtube video showing how dysfunctional Parliament had become. I re-post it to show you how bad this Parliament had become. Remember this is way back in March....

So, to those opposition people (see I didn't use lefties! HA!) who think Parliament was working, get real!

Also contrast the slogans:

Liberals: Greener, richer, fairer
Conservatives: United, strong and free

Can you sissy Liberals come down from your elitist cloud and realize that the average Joe Blow Canadian can not relate to you and your message? Right over your heads I see, oh well, at least the Conservatives get it!

Your an idiot, and it would suggest that the Left majority disagrees with you an you should get off you high horse and realize that a good part of us do not hold your ridiculous, misguided right-wing values.

For the most part Canada has always been a left leaning country I highly doubt that will ever change.

Parliament is working exactly as it should, the democratically voted opposition attempting to force Canadian values on the conservatives. It's the government that's dysfunctional.

Peggy - so you are telling me that you want another year of the Liberals hiding behind the curtains and not voting? Do you want another year of another pseudo scandal being thrown out there every Tuesday like clockwork.

Instead of just throwing out the term "right wing values"; please tell us what those are - are you unhappy with the taxes you got back on your income tax; are you unhappy that everytime you buy something it costs a little less; are you unhappy that parents are getting money to help defray the costs of raising children; are you unhappy with money being put into companies so that many Canadians will keep jobs.

Please tell me what you feel is so ridiculous and misguided about the Tories. Maybe instead of throwing out comments, we bloggers need to start debating the issues.

I await your reply.

Peg not only misses the point, she illustrates it by name-calling and ranting.
That the opposition and governing parties have differing opinions on most issues is a given; it is not a problem.
The problem is belligerant, accusatory behaviour and wholesale disregard for civil debate.

As was stated by the Speaker in your well chosen first video clip, the problem is that parliamentary procedure is increasingly ignored. "[It] is intended to ensure that there is a balance between the government's need to get it's business through the House, and the Opposition's responsibility to debate that business without completely immobilizing the procedures of the House."
Immobilization is avoided by adhering to the "decent and orderly manner" in which mature and rational adults can deliberate the merits and flaws of any view.

The degradation of "Parliamentary" behaviour can be partially attributed to the television coverage of all sessions. The knowledge that they are performing for an audience influences members behaviour. Every time they rise to speak becomes an opportunity to campaign for their own re-election, so they are more animated and accusatory in their style. The irony is that they end up displaying themselves as loud-mouth whiners rather than sober and articulate statesmen who effectively present their case earning the respect not only of their constituents, but also their opponents.

Peg: Just because Paul Martin, Chretain and gang said cdn values, does not make them cdn values. You must have grown up post Trudeau.
You are right when you say, forcing cdn values (as set by liberals) on the rest of us.
Pay attention to the South, the silent majority have finally woke up and are going to take their country back.

In your video vault, do you have a clip of Dion saying he will undo everything Harper has done. That would mean raising the gst, cancelling the child benefit, raise tax rates back up. Now he is calling PMSH a liar for saying that. Oh, and it would also mean cancelling all the increased funding for aids in Africa.
Somebody has got to have that speech.

MaryT ... go to the conservative web site and at the bottom there is a contact link - send them an email and have the "war room" find the speech/link to Dion's comments etc. I'm sure they will have it.

I googled dion/gst and found an article in a London paper about how liberals are upset re Dion's slip about maybe raising gst. e-mailed it to Hunter as she is much better than I to get the whole story. Written by an Andrew P.
Only the headline was there, so don't know how to get the story faxed to me. I know she works so it might be later tonight for more info.

Thanks Mary T, they want me to pay $10 for the full story. That's not going to happen, but google does give lots of other good stories. Working on new post right now.

It sure sucks having to work when an election is going on!

The date on the top of the headline was Sept 8. Is that when that story appeared or was it long ago. CBC tonight said that Dion has never said he would raise the gst, consider it. But, he has on many occassions said he would undo all the things the Harper govt has done, and that would mean raising the gst.
I am still searching for something with that in, but it was in a scrum, after a vote that he sat on his hands for. It is out there somewhere and someone will find it. Just like Laytons speech last July, re the worker, and it is suggested that perhaps it was Obama who plagarized the story, not Layton.
Poor May, not going to be in the debates. But 3 parties said NO, but from cbc/ctv you would think only Harper did.
I do think May will end up telling her candidates to get out and supporters to vote liberal.
