Colvin appears for his testimony with a lawyer to guide him. Our proud military Generals appear with facts and an unwavering conviction that they did everything right. Colvin might have gone outside the Kandahar gates once or twice, with FULL military support. The Generals were on the ground, with the troops on hundreds of occasions.
The opposition is worried about Taliban prisoners, how about they worry about what the Taliban did to their own people, especially women?
The Generals were worried about our troops on the ground. Those troops are risking their lives to protect Afghans from the Taliban.
In 2006 our troops were too busy trying to stay alive to care what happened to the people shooting to kill them. They still treated all prisoners with respect.
Our opposition parties look like they are in support of the Taliban with their little torture committee. It might play to the extreme lefties, but it makes most Canadians sick. The Taliban are despicable, and if you want to see torture, try googling taliban beheading. I am not recommending that anyone click on any of those links, I didn't, I don't have to actually see it to know it happens. Still, maybe someone should make our MP's watch some of those videos so they can get their heads straight, the Taliban are the enemy, not our troops.
General Hillier's testimony should have been embarrassing for the opposition, who mouthed, the required "we respect the troops" and went on to accuse the Generals and our troops of wrong doing. To see the whole thing, click here, it's worth watching.
The opposition have called the Generals liars and they responded back with facts. I would like to know which opposition MP called our Generals liars, because the Generals should sue them. So, who was it? Which MP called Hillier a liar outside of the protection of Parliament? Just because they are MP's should not give them the right to destroy a person's reputation for partisan reasons.
Preventing Ambassador Mulroney from testifying, is just playing political games. The opposition only want one side of the story presented. Do they understand that real lives are at stake in war? The lives of our troops are way more important than any "supposed" torture of the Taliban prisoners by Afghans. The Generals made that perfectly clear today.
Quit it, you are making yourselves look like idiots.

What's worse is they are making Canada look like an idiot
The oppositions argument is premised on not what may or may not have happened, its premised on a belief that wrong doing was committed because the Harper government did not maintain a bias toward our military and suspect that something was wrong. Get that, the liberals are accussing the conservative's of not being suspicious of the military.
Idf this is the bar by which we determine that a wrong was committed, lets go put the entire LPC on the stand for the money stolen through adscam, the liberals should have suspected something was wrong with that.
This kind of stuff has made me so angry over the last week, that I've made myself busy with other things and have not been listening to the MSM paint our government and our troops (and essentially, our country) as complicit in the war on terror. I'm sick of it.
If treason can still be used to deal with these defamers, politicians included, it should be - to the fullest extent of the law.
Can't let things like facts get in the way of an ideology.
The media should have known that Chretain was going to leave the stage and attempt to strangle that protester, years ago. Should we accuse them and his aides of supporting a violent person.
Nice to know every liberal and their media is guilty of stealing from the taxpayer via adscam. They should have known and stopped it.
Should we assume that every person who voted for a liberal believes what they are saying about canadians, we are war criminals.
The libs are tarnishing every canadian, why can't we tarnish every liberal.
I would doubt that every member of the military are conservative. Bet there are some libs/ndp there also.
I thought they were raising megatons of money, without resorting to asking for money to prove canadians are war criminals.
I watched both sets of testimony. Colvin gave the appearance of credibility but really offered no factual content, just innuendo, hearsay and what I considered gross exaggerations. Three generals got up, had the facts, dates, timelines etc. and were unflappable.
As I watched the generals on cpac, one thing that did strike me was those three are so calm, collected, well-informed and intellectually disciplined that it would be scary to ever have to argue about anything with them.
I've taught engineeering in university, and I've spent a lot of time in the last 10 years in board rooms with senior executives from major corporations across North America. I've seen my share of smart people, but these guys are just down right scary :-)
Liberals and the other leftists are the cancer that is destroying our society and culture.
They could care less about the Afghan prisoners.
They could care less about the Afghan people.
They could care less about Canadian soldiers.
They could care less about all the Canadians who'll be murdered by the next group of “Toronto 18”, who will have been emboldened by their blatant show of weakness.
This is all about them, they only care about themselves. They see these “others” as mere tools and props that can be used to discredit the Conservatives.
They are truly the “Despicable Ones”.
the name you are looking for is non other than Ujal Dosangh. He more or less said that Gauthier had committed war crimes. I couldn't believe it.
Remember he was an NDP for most of his life and Premier of BC until we dumped him.
Then he switched to the Liberals and ran federally to maintain his need to remain in power.
It is sad because way back when he actually had convictions and was himself a whistleblower is the Sihk community. Cheers.
And the documentation that would clear this up conclusively, and was promised by Peter MacKay, continues to be suppressed.
Just like this very blog, where certain comments are suppressed, in order to make the imbeciles who are allowed look less idiotic.
The CPC continues to make Canada a laughingstock with their lies and incompetence.
Liberals will stop at nothing, including trying to shame Canada and it's troops as torture enablers to the whole world ,to try and get back into power.
The Liberals are obviously hoping to have some voters move from the CPC column to the LPC column. But what is more likely, IMHO, is that soft Liberal voters will move to the NDP side. Especially if the Dippers keep playing hardball by bringing up Iggy's "torturous" past. The battle between Jack and Iggy for the pacifist, anti-war vote, is no contest. The Libs should have thought these things through, before jumping on this issue. And now, there could be a backlash on them, as it comes out they are trying to milk this issue for donations.
I can not see any positive traction for the Liberals in persuing this story. Relentless coverage by thr CBC has still not registered on average Canadian priorities. A more formal enquiry would only focus attention on the Martin regime. As I recall, Martin yielded to shrill cries from the left, and ended a practice of turning over prisoners to NATO (American) care. At the time this was seen as an advantage for the prisoners. The same people are now crying torture abuse The tactic of raising a scandal every week has obvious diminishing returns What has happened to the H1N1 scandal?
Focusing on this story allows the Liberals to be framed, fairly or not,as supporting the enemy at a time of war. This is surely not the way to win hearts and minds of Canadians.
CJ:
Just as likely an outcome of that theory is that the blu-libs will get gun shy if this keeps up. As I recall its not just conservative parents that have sons and daughters serving in the CAF.
BTW
Would this classify as giving aid to the enemy?
ls: That documentation is in the process of being translated, and will then be released. This was brought out on Power Play and CBC's politics program. So just sit tight and wait patiently.
Can I ask if setting the bar that low is really the best way to go?
Has any media person or liberal MP, or anyone on the committee ever defined what they consider torture to be.
Catch the video at BLY of women being flogged, by their own men.
We need more videos of mistreatment of muslim women, schools burning, acid being thrown.
Then ask the question, have our troops ever done this.
Good one Hunter. You kept your temper in check. I did not touch this subject in my blog, because all I could think of were 4-letter words.
The left has gone completely bonkers seeing the success of the Harper govt and they are making themselves look more and more stupid each passing day.
On second thoughts, that works for us very nicely.
