Are we committing cultural suicide? Let's call a spade a spade:
Political correctness will be the death of Western civilization because unlike our earlier forms of pluralistic tolerance, PC is wilfully blind to the lack of reciprocal tolerance in other cultures. Indeed, the more others hate us, the more PC denies their hatred.
The most disturbing aspect of last week's Fort Hood shootings -- aside from the horrendous loss of life, of course -- has been the triumph of political correctness in the analysis of Maj. Nadil Hasan's motives. Many "experts" have assiduously avoided the obvious cause: Hasan's fundamentalist, radicalized Muslim views.
A man runs into a room of unarmed people and starts firing away while shouting " Allahu Akbar" ( "Allah is Great"). He has had frequent arguments -- many of them extremely heated -- with several fellow officers in recent years over the alleged stupidity and immorality of the West's wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He expressed public agreement with the Koran's exhortations to kill infidels, justified suicide bombings, attended a radical Virginia mosque, sought permission from superiors to have Muslim-American soldiers exempted from service in Middle Eastern wars and, among other things, attempted to make contact with al-Qaeda recruiters.
Some of the nicest people I have met are Muslims. They truly live a quiet moral life. They deserve our trust as long as they respect our laws. That's all we ask from every Canadian, respect our laws. It's easy, don't break our laws and you can live in our beautiful country without fear.

The key is relevancy. If the accused had not shouted "Allahu Akbar", I would not reference him as a Muslim.
Years ago, the media used to mention the ethnicity of people involved in incidences. For example, "Paul Giovanni, an Italian-Canadian, got into a major auto collision with Mike Jackson, a black-Canadian." Unless they shouted slurs at each other, their ethnicity and race would be irrelevant.
If we wish to identify people based on religion, ethnicity, or race, let use be aware that most people who commit crimes in the US and Canada are Christians--some devout; others not so much.
What about the "Christian" Marine who beat the crap out of a Greek priest in Miami.
The so-called Christian lied to the police and told them the man was yelling "Allahu Akbar" and was a terrorist...He was an orthodox Greek Priest. Think about that. This is supposedly a "highly trained" Marine. He cannot distinguish between a Greek Priest and a Taliban terrorist in downtown Miami!
Huntsy:
Re:"We constantly hear that more First Nations people are in jail than any other ethnic group. Really? Maybe they do more crime than any other ethnic group, anyone ever thought of that?"
And Re:"I actually like our First Nations people. They are a happy people who just want to make a better life for their children than they had...sounds like our pioneers."
This is how Huntsy segues into calling "a spade a spade" - Huh?

Huntsy I think you might be getting low on wieners - better head out to Safeway and stock up

I agree with this position. If the chant had not occurred, adding the religious affiliation would be prejudicial profiling, imo.
I have a bigger issue with the aspect that this is not being referred to as terrorism. It most certainly is as much domestic terrorism as were the actions of Timothy McVeigh.
"a spade a spade"
Talk about double standard. A Catholic Priest, with 15+ years in the navy has been kicked out. His crime, praying in the name of Jesus, while outside a Chapel while in uniform. Meanwhile a terrorist is promoted time and agan in the Army. Even tho several head honchos knew of his support for terrorists. Guess they were afraid of being sued for discrimination or something.
MaryT, it really frosts me when we all have to tippy-toe around one group while the left can denigrate another with impunity.
I seriously don't think they have the brain power to understand the issues, as my trolls clearly illustrate.

Could you provide a link for this? I am not familiar with the story.

It remains to be seen if the Fort Hood murderer qualifies as a "terrorist". I would think a real terrorist would not be asking to be discharged from the Army, instead he would be a sleeper until he could do maximum damage, and in a spectacular way. Far better opportunities exist for someone in his position, if he was part of a terrorist cell planning an attack.
Shooting 40 people just doesn't cut it for a terrorist placed so deeply in the US Army. 9-11 hijackers managed to kill over 150 people each, and the number was low because the buildings had not filled up to their normal 30,000 people. Someone carefully and deeply embedded in the US Army could eventually get their hands on an atomic weapon.
Even tho several head honchos knew of his support for terrorists.
That is the real issue here. Why were his views not taken more seriously?
Guess they were afraid of being sued for discrimination or something.
A good guess. He was pushing for Muslims to be exempt from duty in Muslim dominant countries. That in itself is not evidence of anything. Justifying suicide bombing is the red flag, though I am not sure this was internet postings only or he talked like this in person. The main investigation has to be who know what and when about this guy.

Examples? The Fort Hood killer is invariably identified as a Muslim who may have been a jihadist. Who is tippy toeing? Would you consider this to be tippy toeing around? After all they don't mention the religion of these men until 5 paragraphs in. Even though they were lay preachers in their church. If the Fort Hood killer was an imam, do you think that would not have been at the top and part of the headline?
I seriously don't think they have the brain power to understand the issues, as my trolls clearly illustrate.
If you are truly serious, then you must start killing these sub humans as you would any rabid dog. But you're not. You just don't like people disagreeing with your rush to judgment and lack of critical thinking.
LS, google it, that seems to be your forte. Just because you are not familiar with a story doesn't mean it is not true.

I tried, but it is not a cut and paste like your earlier story, so nothing came up in the first page. Do you have the priest's name? Which navy he was in? Which base he was on? When this happened? Any details would help find an account of this.
I am not doubting the veracity of the story, just your slant. For example abortion protesters harassing and intimidating people often claim to be "just praying". Suppose that priest was an imam kicked out of the navy. You might presume he was aggressively trying to convert people though calling it praying, for example.
Can you give something more specific?
I do not cut and paste, and it was the US navy.
LS, perhaps you should read NNW, Frank McKenna says it will take a long time for the liberals to come back. Susan Delacourt writes that 30 staffers are now unemployed from the OLO. Several junior staffers were let go today.
Feeling sorry for LS I will give him the link, go to Dodo can spell.
