Fife does not report the news, he states his opinion. (video)
What is the opinion of actual Canadians? Read the comments on the article. Here are some samples:

I guess you did as much as you could to bash our Prime Minister. He was there making a speech... do you not believe that Dion's speeches are also to woo voters to vote for him, but that is never mentioned.... Just dion and his great plan, that everyone will eat up and think they are eating lobster...Why can't just once you report something positive on our Prime Minister. After all, the people did elect him, he represents us, and every time you mention his name has to be with a negative headline.... Shame on you bias liberals...

"Prime Minister Stephen Harper addressed a crowd of supporters in Quebec Tuesday". He was speaking to 'supporters'. If he wants to talk about the Conservative Party, what is the problem with this? Why is this news and why are people on here complaining about it?
Wayne
All I can say is Thank God that Mr. Harper has been sitting in the PM's chair the last 2 years as he has done more for Canada in this short time than the Liberals did in a dozen years. Let's look at the facts right now we have lower taxes, lower national debt, increased pride in our military and are exceeding our international obligations, increased respect from other nations, increased unity in Canada and all the while he has not sucked up to the media or hypocritically behaved other than the Conservative he is. He has my vote and get this I used to be a Liberal the only thing left is to get rid of this lunatic idea of taxing carbon which would indeed affect everything at a time when we do not and should not be playing with our economy as so far we have escaped what is happening down south but how long can that happen for. While we are at it Gordon Campbell needs a little help out the door as well with this carbon tax here in BC = Axe The Tax!!!!!

It seems to irk many here to no end that PM Harper is doing a reasonable if not great job running this country..What makes it so ironic is that those just waiting for him to fumble so they can pounce with their nay say are so much better off yet their blind faith to a past liberal government that was sinking this country both morally and financially won't allow themselves to see it. Right or wrong, left or right, Conservative or Liberal are not written in stone or necessarily realated to one another or at least they shouldn't be in the voters mind..If a government is doing a fair job then I say they deserve our praise and vote..Steadfast partisan politics from the voters perspective is nothing more then blind arrogance/ignorance and a disservice to those that vote informatively
And by far the best response of all:
Ian
We Canadians are a funny breed. We claim that we are a democratic people, yet we can't accept any party but the Liberals in power. We constantly cry that we are too overly taxed, yet criticize a PM who cuts our taxes, and praise a man who wants to jack them up again. We complain that our courts are too lax with criminals, yet complain when the government wants to get tough on crime. We claim that Canada shouldn't be so buddy buddy with the US, yet we spend the vast majority of our tourism dollars down there, all the while slagging their President at every turn. We all claim that we support human rights, but praise our Liberal PMs for signing trade deals with China and Cuba. I could go on, but you get my point. Let's face it, Canada is a left leaning society and we will never give the Conservatives a fair shot, yet we take advantage of all of the good things that this government has provided, without giving them the credit they deserve. I give up!
Don't give up Ian, the landscape is shifting, the "polls" don't show it, but it is there simmering under the surface. Last election it was about voting for change, next election will be about leadership, and good governance.
Read the rest of the comments, it's quite illuminating. Facts against emotion.

I do not believe the "polls" - they are conducted by people just like "Robert Fife' who were put there by the liberals and poll their buddies before asking a few odd Canadians. I have never been polled... they ask the same ones over and over. All they have to do is ask all employees at the "Globe and Mail" - 3 of the top 4 Executives are liberals - all reporters are liberals.... Gloria Galloway is Mark Dunn's wife - he is chief stragetist for dion right now... Tabor and Oliver are liberals... and then we wonder why Harper is not overly friendly with the media. Imagine Robert Fife writing that Harper was giving a political speech yesterday in Quebec and pushing for votes. What do leaders do at political rallies - tell people not to vote for them. Listen to a few of Obama and McCain's speeches... I wonder what Robert thinks dion is doing running around giving speeches on his "tax grab".... telling people not to support him. I think when Robert Fife and Jane Tabor constantly critize our Government for no real reason... we should "jump" on the media with emails. I write them everytime....and tell them about their liberal bias.
And now the comments section on that story is closed. I e-mailed the general e-mail for the ctv news staff to complain about this and one of the pictures posted, which shows a heckler. I only saw one heckler outside the entrance and a big crowd of happy people cheering Harper. Why not a picture of one of our proud Legion members who were there?
Also a less partisan speech I have never heard, in honour of the St. Jean Baptiste Day, I suppose. I was hoping for a barn-burning speech shafting Dion for his Green Shift, but there was not even one joke about Dion. Hardly partisan.
I read the comment section at the CTV website. It's refreshing reading comments from real people rather than the elite in the MSM. The MSM try to manipulate the public but I think slowly but surely, the public is starting to see through the press and forming their own opinions.
I think the polls are wrong because they are basically conducted by Liberally biased firms hired by Liberally biased media and are generally push polls. Most of the time you don't know how a question was framed. What was the wording? So that can be misleading.
I think the internal polls that the parties conduct tell a different story.
So I wonder if Bobby will do a write up of DION TRYING TO WOO VOTERS IN ALBERTA in his speech here yesterday.
I won't hold my breath.
Does he really think that any leader who speaks at any time is not trying to woo voters. Sheesh the MSM is not even trying to hide it's bias anymore.
The real question here is is this Bob's slant or is he writing to please his masters. Remember when in Edmonton ITV became Global the editorial slant changed overnight. All the talking heads on CTV are so consistent I think the bias might well have its origins in the executive offices. As does most of the rest of the MSM. After all what is the point of owning a media outlet if it doesn't say what you want it to say.
It is amazing how CTV can jump from this present governmnet into Mulroney years have you noticed? the idiots on CTV and any MSM will have seem to have tons of information about PMSH youth days yet seem to ignore the liberal years.
The liberals have more scandal corruption lost of money etc for the MSM, CBC CTV to relish on daily but they chose not too. what the PMSH ate as a child is greater news.
This new terrorist worked for the liberal party again the media keeps a tight lid on it.
CTV OR CBC are no more interested in this country and our troops or else the liberals will be eating "dirt' today.
When was the last time CTV reporter ever say to a liberal live on camera "how dare you steal from the poor and from the country. If you give a dam about the poor why don't you return the money. how do you expect the canadians to trust liberal party when you point blank refuse to return their stolen money.
Apparently the MSM are too busy campaigning on air for the liberals since the liberals themselves are broke.FREE OF CHARGE.
CBC is in the garbage disposal.
Has anyone else noticed, since the libs agreed to the extention in Afghanistan, the difference in the coverage of Canadian casualties?
When PMSH first wooed Quebec, the media laughed, saying he's wasting his time. National media was wrong then, and now.
msm doesn't exactly cheer Dion on in Quebec. So the national media coverage is pretty much the same for both PMSH & Dion. Critical.
The Quebec media are the ones to pay attention to, they have the audience.
Nationals CTV and CBC don't influence Quebecers like the locals do.
One thing about the 180 degree turn Dion made on carbon taxes,
he can no longer attack PMSH on any position he held previously.
Firewalls...PMSHs thinking has evolved.
Climate change denier...PMSHs thinking has evolved.
If Dion's thinking can 'evolve', the very thinking that got him elected lib king, then the same goes for PMSH.
It's a new game.
'Evolved' pretty much covers all of the 'hidden agenda' fearmongering of the former Reform/Alliance.
Case in point:
Quebec is a Nation within a United Canada
Talk about your evolution!
next election will be about leadership, and good governance.
actually, the next election will be about economic and environmental reform.
the conservative pot is dry, void of vision.
you can't accept what the polls say yet you talk about fact-driven discussion. it sounds like you're a little selective about the facts.
here are a few facts:
1. harper won't debate dion on environmental issues.
2. polls suggest 70% would like to see such a debate.
3. dion has re-introduced himslef to quebeckers outside the realm of the clarity act.
4. quebeckers consider climate change to be a very important issue.
5. quebeckers are embracing the liberal green shift.
6. robert fife is paid to offer analysis. he is not a reporter.
7. harper was clearly pandering to a partisan crowd in quebec city.
8. harper needed a former liberal to fill the foreign affairs post because the talent pool on his side is woefully thin.
9. if dion can move support from the NDP and Green party nationally and from the Bloc and soft conservative support in quebec, the liberals will win a majority.
10. conservatives are scared shiftless.
Jeff old boy words of bravado like yours belong to either heros or fools and let me assure you sir, you are no hero.
jeff says:
''harper won't debate dion on environmental issues''
''polls suggest 70% would like to see such a debate''
What enviro issues?
Dion refused the Dippers a debate. Why?
dion asked for a debate on HIS election platform,
which taxes Canadians $6.3 Billion for absolutely NO measurable reduction in ghg's and
taxes us another $9 Billion for a dion social program (most of which merely enhances 'the changes PMSH brought in)
''harper was clearly pandering to a partisan crowd in quebec city''
So? What's your point? dion doesn't have a partisan crowd in Quebec?
Sucks to be him, eh.
''harper needed a former liberal to fill the foreign affairs post because the talent pool on his side is woefully thin.''
liberals needed to recruit and ex-Dipper, ex-American, 2 ex-Conservatives to run for leader because NO real Liberal would touch the job.
What enviro issues?
well wilson, if you can't answer that question for yourself, the conservative brain trust is in serious trouble.
why would dion debate another opposition party? it's clear that harper is afraid to face dion on environment issues.
dion's plan to reduce poverty may not appeal to the fat cats but canadians are listening.
you need to remember that canadians, generally, favour progressive economic and social policies. the conservative base is thin. the majority of us don't and won't conservative.
dion is smart to target soft green and NDP support. that's his best chance to grow the base.
this is what frightens conservatives the most. liberals needn't worry about the core conservatives, they won't move in his direction. however, others will.
michael ignatieff is canadian btw.
the plurality of candidates the LPC is able to attract demonstrates my point. the libs,as a big tent party, can form a coalition.
the conservatives will remain stuck in the polls while liberal support swells.
''What enviro issues?''
Exactly, the Green Shaft is a liberal election platform.
The Green Shaft IGNORES the environment, taxes the consumption of fossil fuels with no ghg reduction targets (general revenues anyone), offers NO energy alternatives,
AND with 60% of the new tax, $9 Billion of the $15.3, going toward NOT the environment, but toward a lib promise for more social spending.
So yah, debate what enviro issues?
'''why would dion debate another opposition party?''
Why would PMSH debate ANY opposition party then??
jeff, jeff, jeff...the liberals are NOT government.
''the majority of us don't and won't (vote) conservative.''
and even LESS Canadians voted liberal, and tossed liberals into OPPOSITION.
and might I add, NO Canadians, zero, voted for dion as lib leader, they voted for martin vs. Harper.
''michael ignatieff is canadian btw''
After 36 years in the US, he hops across the boarder wanting to run the country.
Anyone wanting to run the country should have been a 'resident' of that country (and citizen ONLY that country) for for the preceeding 10 years IMO.
Mr. 'I won't lose any sleep over it' still has his american drawl.
One thing about the 180 degree turn Dion made on carbon taxes,
One thing, is that it is not the "180 degree turn" you try to paint it as being.
he can no longer attack PMSH on any position he held previously.
He can and he will.
Firewalls...PMSHs thinking has evolved.
He has never repudiated this position.
Climate change denier...PMSHs thinking has evolved.
Doubtful. We know PMSH will say anything to get a majority.
If Dion's thinking can 'evolve', the very thinking that got him elected lib king, then the same goes for PMSH.
You are trying to compare two different things. One is thinking evolves on HOW to do something. This happens every day in any innovative company. You come up with better ways to do things.
The other thing you are trying to claim "evolves" is the idea of WHAT to do. The Reform agenda has always been to destroy all of our institutions. It is a philosophical position, one unlikely to change on the spur of the moment.
Dion's thinking evolved on carbon taxes, since it was unclear before how such a tax would redirect efforts to reducing emissions. I don't think his philosophical view changed, being that market forces need to be harnessed to spur the innovation to reduce emissions.
A better parallel would be that Harper no longer wants to outlaw abortion by passing an anti-abortion law, instead he will try to veil it in an "unborn victims of crime" bill.
In both of these examples, the basic ideological/philosophical view has not changed, only the tactics to achieve it have. But even there we see a difference. Dion is trying a different tack but the goal is clear. In the abortion example, you hear loud shrieking that it has absolutely nothing to do with abortion. But everyone knows the hidden goal there.
It's a new game.
Indeed it is. I haven't heard you guys moaning "Dion is not a leader" lately. I guess that means he is in fact a leader.
Nor have I heard complaining that the Liberals wouldn't oppose the government enough lately. Now that Harper CANNOT engineer his defeat and get an excuse to call an election, he is going to be pummeled for the next three months. Running scared, won't debate, trying to claim the other guys are flipfloppers but he is not.
Now he is criticizing the green shift. This is where Harper belongs, opposing. He will soon be in opposition where he belongs. After all, the Liberals are useless in Opposition.
'Evolved' pretty much covers all of the 'hidden agenda' fearmongering of the former Reform/Alliance.
You wish!
Case in point:
Quebec is a Nation within a United Canada
Whatever that's supposed to mean. Probably emboldens the separatists. But you don't care about that, since Canada is just a second rate country according to your leader.
Talk about your evolution!
Talk about your window dressing!
The main reason a so called majority of cdns want a debate to to watch PMSH make mincemeat out of Dion.
PMSH is in a generous mood, and will wait till just before the House is recalled in Sept, (maybe) I think when PMSH agrees to a debate you will see Dion running very fast in the other direction.
Jeffy should remember that Paul Martin went in with a majority, but believed all the poll etc, and his ego wanted a larger majority than JC got.
Libs went from Majority, to minority to opposition in less than how many years. That would mean that in the last 2 elections the libs got fewer votes than the previous one, and who got more votes in each of them. May the trend continue.
I know whenever I am polled I always agree with liberals, just to confuse the results.
The main reason a so called majority of cdns want a debate to to watch PMSH make mincemeat out of Dion.
Really? People are as petty as you are? Canadians want this discussed instead of listening to PMSH's shrieking chorus. That is getting so old with everyone outside your radical right wing base.
PMSH is in a generous mood, and will wait till just before the House is recalled in Sept, (maybe)
Well, I suppose we'll just have to happy with whenever His Majesty chooses to magnanimously consent to this debate with one of his subjects.
I think when PMSH agrees to a debate you will see Dion running very fast in the other direction.
Wow, the lame old "Dion is a big scaredy cat" routine. Of course, if you'd studied the man, this is his usual strategy. I think you are underestimating him nicely!
Hahahaha!
Gee, I must have touched a sore spot with anonhaha.
Gee, I must have touched a sore spot with anonhaha.
Yes, you did.
I forgot to move all the furniture out of the room before reading your silly comment, and so hurt my elbow while rolling on the floor laughing uncontrollably.
Please stop being so unintentionally hilarious, I get hiccups when I laugh too much.
Cure for hiccups, a good scare. Liberals are scarred that dion will go down like the titanic.
If you need more cures, let me know.

No, that doesn't scare me. We have plenty of good people. And a Liberal government doesn't scare me, we'll still have a country after their mandate.
It's Harper with a majority that is scary. The Liberals have managed to give us a brief taste of that by giving the Stephen Harper Party all the rope it needs.
Anon, your irrational, neurotic and "Shrieking" negativity about Harper is so transparent it's pathetic. Get a hold of yourself, quit believing everything you read in Lib rags and maybe educate yourself a bit more. Your hateful diatribes about the nasty and scary Harper are false and have no basis in anything other than your prejudices and poor information provided to you by equally hateful and irrational members of the media who have an axe to grind. It's too bad you're so blinded by your hate that you don't realize how immature and foolish you sound.

Thank you "caz". Enjoy your time in the PMO. It pleases me to no end that you continue to be incapable of anything more than ad hominem attacks against anyone who criticizes your Master. That shows me that the right wing interruption that we must periodically endure is nearing its natural end.
The real indicator of immaturity and foolishness is calling all dissenters "hateful", "irrational" and "blinded".
Your talking point book is empty.
You are bereft of ideas.
You are contained.
And now you are cornered. Not surprising to see you lashing out in your anger.
